Whats your cleaning routine?

Im curious to see how people clean their pieces.

I do the simple old isopropyl alcohol and salt and a lot of shaking. If I have enough alcohol I try to submerge my ashcatcher in it for a couple hours. I really need to get a pipe cleaner though, I hear those work wonders.

Anyone use the stuff you can buy from head shops? Is it any good? (420cleaner, etc)

Also do you think it would be safe to put a bong and its pieces in a dishwasher? I mean..its glass isn't it lol
 
I've put my small glass-only bong in a good dishwasher before. Believe me, 10 seconds of a wash with isopropanol is more effective than an entire dishwasher cycle...
 
iso + salt submerge for 30 min --> hot water rinse --> iso + salt shaking --> water wash --> dry --> new piece.


While it's generally safe to put your piece into the dishwasher, know two things: 1) Won't be as clean as you would hope unless you've got a monstrous dishwasher. 2) Your entire dishwasher may be covered in bong water, along with any other glassware in there, and yeah, it can get smelly. I tried throughing my hookah in there before as well, water just doesn't do the job that salt and alcohol does for cleaning.
 
bucket of hot water with jif lemon, some bottle cleaning brushes and a rinse under the tap leaves my r00r sparkling in 2 or 3 minutes. i need to buy new brushes every 4 weeks or so as they get pretty grim.

i had some stuff from a head shop, it was just bleach crystals in a freaky arse package for £5 such a rip off and i burnt the skin round my mouth by not rinsing the bleach crystals off properly. i looked like him >:o
 
420 cleaner is just alcohol and salts with fragrance.............boiling works plus alcohol and epsom or rock salts works. I keep my shit spotless wash it almost every time i use it; maybe after a few uses ill clean it.
 
Shit... you guys are alot more into bong cleanliness than me. My routine is just clean it out with cold water as soon as I finish using it. It looks dirty but ehh
 
when i had a bong, i cleaned it using a pretty easy, cheap method. i drained the bong of its water and replaced it with isopropyl alcohol and some kosher salt mixed in. i took out the downstems and pre-cooler. i plugged the bong's holes with some rubber stoppers i found at a local hardware store's fastener aisle. then, I shook and shook and shook the bong so that the iso-salt mixture got in every nook & cranny. the bong came out beautiful and after soaking the bowl, downstem, & pre-cooler in ISO and rinsing after, it was good as new (well, no bong is ever as good as it is when it's brand new).

must be an aussie thing. my bong gets cleaned out with cold water whenever i change the wwater. which is every few days.
 
I usually clean it with a scotch brite and some dish detergent. I tied the scotch brite to the end of a long stick, and since my bong is a straight tube I clean it with that. For me it seems to be the most convenient way to quickly clean it. Every once in a while I use the iso and salt method to clean it properly.
 
damn, I actually thought thus thread was about cleaning, as in cleaning a home.

to add to the actually conversation on hand, I don't smoke, only with friends a few times per year so I don't have a piece. I used to have a kick ass bong from 16-20 but then I stopped smoking and gave it away. My mom liked it, she doesn't smoke but doesn't have a problem if I have a joint infront of her. But harder drugs are a big NO NO.
 
If you people havent heard of it try and find a detergent called Pyroneg. The shit we use it at work to clean glassware, you just throw a tablespoon of it in a bucket, hot water. Soak it, shake it, rinse it. Done.

its 10 bucks a bottle in hawaii... i used to spend an hour with tooth brushes and picks trying to clean my diffuser down stems... now i soak it while im at work come home rinse and smoke... just pop it back in the GO and soak till next session... NO SCRUBBING...

if you have a perc system... its a must...

here is a pic after about 30 or so uses (had a few sessions with friends) on a double perc if you didnt have the cleaners no way would you get all the resin and stuff off the glass... and the salt/hot water method takes too long... the GO also deodorizes and its REUSABLE! just run it through a shirt or sock or something to get the grit out and voila! also if you have an all metal grinder? toss that in there it will clean out the residue left from moist weed.

Whenever it needs it, hot water + salt shake boom done.

I Used to use iso on my glass piece, until it smashed and I got too scared o buy another.
 
Does anyone have any bowl-specific methods for cleaning? I've tried a few ways and while its not hard to clean, its just bitch and sucks getting all the res on your hands and what not.
