Having destroyed my serotonin system through mdma use, are there any options besides suicide?

having run through all the antidepresants on the market and mood stabilizers there doesnt seem much left. They dont do shit for ecstasy induced depression.

Is opiates and benzos the only option here or is there some novel agent that is used i just dont know about.

Believe it or not, after I heavily abused MDMA, Tramadol was a god send. It has SSRI properties, and if you have no opiate tolerance it gives you that opiate push that helps get you in a good mood. Of course they are addicting, but if you are even mentioning suicide they can't hurt.

^agreed. Tramadol or effexor would be a good choice. Be careful when discontinuing either of these drugs. Taper taper taper.

note that serotonin syndrome is a real problem if you mix either with street drugs. Best to stop using x all together.

tramadol is far better than effexor for the record and was easy to come off which shocked me as it was less harsh than citalopram, effexor is noted for its brutal withdrawl effects.

i was taking 150mg of tramadol every morning for about a year

i feel much better than after citalopram- its the opiate effect that is the greatest antidepressant and after it wears off the chilled out thinking remains

Citalopram (an SSRI) works pretty well for me. I'm on 40mg a day, but that gets raised to 80mg when I'm having a rough time. I think it's just a matter of finding the right medication for you. Don't give up! And neurotoxicity from heavy ecstasy use isn't permanent - you're brain will eventually start to repair itself, if you give it a chance. :)

i have never abused MDMA, but anecdotally i have heard that tianeptine is especially effective for recovering from overuse of 5HT releasers, there is an erowid report detailing the effects.

I personally found Tramadol addictive, just FYI. Not everyone does. Actually I'm sure it's rare. But best warned.

Benzos for depression?? I wouldn't think so. Hell, it has depressant effects. One would think that it might run the risk of making you more depressed,

I was addicted to Tramadol for the most part of a year and found its withdrawals to be worse than those for oxycodone.

That said, it is the 3rd best medicine I found for comedowns.

The best for me is definitely Tianeptine, which seemed to completely reverse the comedown. Second is, of course, Ketamine.

Btw, benzos start to cause depression only after chronic use. So for one-time use, while they won't cure depression, they won't make it worst, and they will aid with the muscle-sores and anxiety of comedowns.

yeah, I've been on it for 2+ years and the bf can't stand me on it. IDK what to do. Perhaps instead of derailing this thread you could message me some help, tips, ideas on how to at least curb it so I don't lose my relationship over it? Thank you Jam

I've found that for severe MDMA/methamphetamine abuse SSRIs are contraindicated -- the users get very jittery and anxious and it doesn't go away from some reason. Try mirtazapine.

Hypericum wich makes 5HT1A and 5HT2A more sensitive.

True this.

I sunk into a horrible bout of severe depression\intense obsessional anxiety and panic attacks from going cold turkey on high dose oxycodone\hydromorphone habit and a massive mdma overdose.

It didn't go away for about 8 months, when I started taking Kira brand st johns wort. I feel like 90% back to who I used to be, which is a HUGE fucking improvement.

Not all SJW is the same, Kira standardizes for Hypercin, Hyperforin, and adhyperforin as well as some other compounds.

It's the only formula of SJW that's been used in clinical trials. The vast majority of trials that have been conducted on SJW have been using the LI160 formula, contained in Kira.

I have a few concerns about taking SSRIs after consuming big doses of MDMA wich is also a strong SSRIs besides being a serotonin enhancer by reversing the 5HT transporter.

The chanses of serotonin syndrome aren't so high i guess (depending on the doses obviously) but i still wouldn't recomend taking them after such neurologically stressfull experience, it could do some further damage to the serotonin receptors through desensitization.

I would simply take 50-100mg of 5-HTP (let the body deal with its own serotonin), a vitamin complex along with extra antioxidants (vitamin C, lipoic acid, carotenes and melatonin which is excellent for a good refreshing sleep) and some benzos throughout the day to keep you 'cool' and help you relax/sleep (i would personaly go with clonazepam or aprazolam which are pretty long-acting).

I would avoid taking caffeine or the like since it could increase stress levels although i would advice a nice cup of green (or even better white) tea has a lot of antioxydants (olyphenols) with low levels of caffeine plus it has L-theanine wich is good for increasing GABA levels and reduce physical and mental stress.

Something that many people ignore is psychological comforts. Some people normally avoid social interaction because they feel stressed and somehow 'dumb' on 'the day after'. Having comfortable company or getting involved in pleasurable activities helped me a LOT. Never underestimate the self-curing powers of the mind.
