PHNOM PENH, Nov. 20, 2009 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Ten ecstasy laboratories operated by local drug cartels were destroyed Wednesday in one of Cambodia's most impenetrable and remote jungle areas in the country's southwest Cardamom Mountains, according to a statement released Friday by Wildlife Alliance.

The raid was carried out by an anti-drug task force led by Wildlife Alliance and in close cooperation with forest rangers from Cambodia's armed services and Ministry of Environment.

"At least 35 tons of safrole oil, a main ingredient used in the methamphetamine production of ecstasy, could have been used to make over five million ecstasy pills with a street value of over 100 million U.S. dollars," according to local officials.

Wildlife Alliance-sponsored ranger team from Cambodia's Ministry of Environment and managed by Fauna and Flora International, came across the ecstasy labs several months ago during a routine foot patrol through Phnom Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary, 200 miles northwest of Phnom Penh.

Wildlife Alliance Technical Advisor and former French Legionnaire, Eduard Lefter, who planned the complex and dangerous raid with Cambodian Forest Rangers, commented on the operation, saying "The mission was very difficult to organize and the conditions extremely tough. The mountain terrain and dense forest made a helicopter insertion virtually impossible, so we went in by foot."

According to Lefter, the team spent 12 days in the jungle battling leeches and the resulting wound infections, as well as skirting landmines which made forward progress extremely difficult. By the end of the mission much of Lefter's ranger teams were suffering from dehydration from dwindling water supplies.

The teams also carried explosive ordnance in the form of landmines, provided by the Cambodian Military, to destroy the ecstasy labs and safrole distillation equipment.

Probably a good thing. If the Cambodian labs keep going the way they the safrole tree will be driven into extinction :(

whut?

^ I noticed that aswell, the idiots clearly think meth and ecstasy are the same thing. These labs are driving the safrole tree towards extinction but I can't say I am happy to see any superlabs that are making MDMA being busted given the current MDMA situation in my part of the world.

I saw a documentary on Vanguard about them XTC labs in Cambodia extracting all that safrole shit. then they ship that sassafrass oil stuff over to the Netherlands where its used to produce MDMA.. at least thats what they said on the documentary

I can't even conceive of the supply of MDMA falling lower than it is currently. This is shitty news.

I'll have to look for that. I saw their documentary about oxycodone abuse in Florida. It was informative, if only about how easy it is to obtain over there.

I'll have to link to those in our DiTM video thread. They might be on Hulu...

UK and Europe have been dry all year, the sarole oil comes from asia and there has been no supplies :(

I nearly cried when I read this. Even tho I'm from Australia (which has been dry as all fuk for a long time now), the destruction of 35 tonnes......

In all seriousness, it sucks that the environment gets damaged from the production of MDMA, but it's probably one of the last things environmentalists should be worried about in Cambodia. I've done a fair amount of analysis on the issue, and I know that in that same part of the country, forests are decimated by shady government cartels with absolutely zero transparency for timber. Animals get poached all the time and sold to China. And illegal mining that pads the pockets of the Cambodian elite... don't even go there. The Cambodian government is about the last body on Earth that can claim any high ground on the issue of environmental destruction.

I think the real question is, if MDMA is produced locally, why the fuck can't I get good E pills here?

^Probably because the price isn't right. I grew up in a fishing town, but it was hard to get fresh fish because it all got shipped up to the South East where people were willing to pay more for it. I can't imagine that the going price for a gurner in Cambodia makes it worthwhile to not just send it all to Europe, North America or Australia.

^^

I was just kidding. I recall reading in the Phnom Penh Post that the safrole is actually exported to neighboring countries and then processed into MDMA. I don't think many Cambodians are in to dropping E, they seem to prefer shitty meth pills and Burmese heroin.

So what exactly did they do with the 35 tons of oil that was already produced from the trees?

20 bucks says they flipped it for a profit.

I found E in Cambodia once while in Sihanoukville. But in general it's next to impossible too find, Yabba has most drug users by the balls over that way.
