The PROPER Way to Cook Black Tar (if you can't see through your shot, READ THIS!)

As I read through various posts on heroin, I run across quite a few people describing how they cook their black tar. Unfortunately, every single one of those people is making the same mistake I made when I first started shooting.

Most people drop their stuff into the cooker and dissolve it into the solution by heating it. This makes it impossible to cook out the cut. If you've ever left a loaded syringe sitting a while, you probably noticed a dark line of crap has settled at the bottom. This is the stuff you're not getting out, that you definitely should... especially considering how easy it is.

Instead, I put my water and black goodness together in the cooker. I then swirl it around vigorously and/or stir the mix with a plunger until the h is completely dissolved. THEN, slowly add heat. You should start to notice a brown substance rising to the top. At that point, I let it go for a few more seconds, and the substance turns black and settles at the bottom, and the remaining solution is a nice, translucent light-dark amber color. You know the rest...

By using this method you are definitely giving your veins a break! Injecting these easily removable particles leads to a build-up of them, and "hardened" veins I believe. I remember shooting needles full of dark brown sludge. Thinking back on it now makes me cringe. Now, no matter how strong the mix is, I always get a nice clear solution to shoot.

thats exactly how i do it... though heat isn't mandatory i always do just to make sure.

The proper way?

1. Don't stir with the plunger

2. Filter your shots!!! (surefire way to get rid of the particulates)

3. I don't have time to write any more

why not stir with the plunger??? i don't know ANYONE who doesn't stir tar...

food for thought...i always wondered myself what exactly that black stuff is, im sure you guys are probably right, but i always used to assume it could be some organic matter left over from the raw opium (as it seems to me that tar is one of less sophisticated forms) could that be possible as well?

I thought the hardening and collapsing of veins is from scar tissue from either being over used, dull needles, or a combination of the two?

because youre going to be using that plunger in the syringe to inject the solution - no longer is it sterile from stirring the solution so youre going to have to use another fresh rig to inject.

unless you have a fresh rig, dont use the plunger to mix it. use something like a match stick from a fresh box of matches or the plunger from a fresh needle.

youre right:)

if your gonna go as far as saying dont use the plunger to stir becuz its no longer sterile then u might as well make sure your using alcohol swabs at the injection site, and pretty much doing what most of us just dont do. Correct me if im wrong but very rarely do i see junkies taking every safety precaution when shooting dope. So this "not stirring with the plunger" thing is just another inconvenience that really doesnt make to big of a difference in my opinion

^i only pointed out what they should be doing from what they described they do actually do during their process. other posters have pointed out other things and theres probably more that needs correting that we dont know about. i dont agree that most of us dont use alcohol swabs, you mightnt, but a lot of intelligent bluelighters do. having that kind of attitude is what were trying to change and what bluelight is about. in the whole scope of things, a few small changes can make the world of difference.

take the intitiative and do yourself the favour and practice healthy habits and pass them on to others:)

when i first started injecting i went the whole 9 yards making sure everything was clean. wheel filters, alcohol swabs, 1-and-done with using needles... 2 years later i just use tap water and whatever i can find to mix in, i think i used once syringe for like 80-something injections... one time i didnt have any water and used rain water that was in a dent on my car... bad habits. it led to some serious health problems and stuff, so whenever i do inject now i always use clean rigs and things.

I would say taking any precautions you can is the best way to go about it, i do understand that most junkies don't have the resources to be completely clean, but at the same time, if you have the ability to at least use some precautions then please do so. i had a buddy who i would cop with and shoot with every single day, he's a pretty grimy kid and just plain didnt give a fuck about keeping anything clean. and I would take any precautions that were available to me no matter what. in the end my buddy ended up having to go to the hospital three times for having foreign particles in his lungs, and the doctors report basically said due to lack of sufficient filtering and cleanliness in his dope shots. he literally got pneumonia and basically came very close to dying many of times. and I never had any sort of problems or anything close, and I have asmutha and he doesn't. so please if your going to slam dope, then at least try to be clean about it, remember its not cool to be a complete grime ball, and you don't have to automatically follow every stereotype of a junkie just because you are one.

Exactly. So the plunger is going to touch the unsterile solution anyway. The unsterile solution is going directly into said syringe and being pushed by the plunger. That doesn't make sense to me. To each his own I guess. As long as everything else is as clean as possible I can't see how it could posibly make a difference.

the plunger is going to make contact with the solution after it has been filtered. if it has been used to stir the solution before that its going to have unwanted insolubles and the unfiltered solution on it when you put it back into the barrel, ultimately youre youre canceling the filter process out.

why go to the trouble of sterilising everything if youre only going to use the plunger to stir the solution and put it back into the rig youre going to use? because you want to eliminate as much harm out of the actions youre taking. if youre going to use the plunger, have a fresh needle to put the final solution into.

I've never had the patience to smash and dissolve the tar into water without heat. I've met a few people who did it this way but I have personally never done it and don't have the patience. I just drop the tar in the cooker, add water, add heat and stir without letting it boil until everything is dissolved. I usually use the orange needle cap or the back of the plunger to stir and dissolve the tar and have never had any problems.

just filtering is not enough. some of this particulate matter (particulates is not a word ;) ), is dissolved with heat, but will come out of solution, when that heat is no longer there.

if you don't believe me, cook up a shot your normal way, and let it sit out for a while. i'm sure you will see crap that has settled to the bottom. this is the same crap you are putting into your veins, which is now floating around inside of you.

i trust JCs judgement over yours. you dont cook and let things reconstitute, you cook and filter well so you dont eff up in the first place.

you really don't understand what i'm saying do you? i'm not saying the proper method is to cook and then let reconstitute. if you do it right, there would be nothing to reconstitute. maybe i'll try a different example:

Let's say we both cook up a shot, load them into our respective syringes, and let them sit for a day. The next day, your syringe will have a residue that has settled at the bottom, while mine will be all liquid. Which one of these would you rather have in your body?

The most important thing here is that diacetylmorphine hydrochloride is soluble in water, and anything that isn't, isn't heroin, so why shoot it?

p.s. (particulates is a word, just not in the sense you used it, sorry)
