Trying weed first before trying mushrooms

I think that it would be a good idea to be experienced with a different mindset and thought processes, but smoking will not prepare you for or be neccesary for a good shroom trip. Read up and best of luck! Also, it would be good to find a friend who knows the ropes so you don't get ripped off on shrooms or make any avoidable mistakes.
i'm just gonna chill with an inexperience friend for my first time with pot, but with the shrooms i'll be more cautious. my friend who's selling me the pot is pretty experience with weed, but has never done shrooms. he has alot of friends who have though, so i'll probably go chill with them when i eat the shroomies.

Just be around people you trust and who aren't going to socially alienate you and ask you questions like what you are feeling... I was out of town when my best friend decided to take his first venture into psychedelics with LSD... he said it was a horrible experience for the reasons above and he just felt trapped in his head.

I suppose it can't hurt to try marijuana first, but it really isn't going to effect your ability to handle mushrooms. It's similar to me saying I want to take xanax in my life before I take cocaine... so I'll be more experienced with altered states.

Regardless, I hope you enjoy your first trip. :)

what exactly does xanax do?

i shall have as much fun as i can manage! :p

Xanax is a strong sedative and anti-anxiety medication. Chills you out, makes you sleepy with horrible coordination and often times memory loss. Kinda like a less euphoric drunkenness.

I feel like I should share that many people, myself for example, become anywhere from slightly anxious to full on panicking with cannabis- but they are able to dose themselves out of this dimension on strong psychedelics with no trouble "handling themselves".

The things many of us here consider the "ideal" way to do things, or even the "safest" way, are simply the most common approach amongst us that happened to work magically for us. Psychedelics have a tendency to fit like a key into your life, wherever you place them, as long as you keep an open mind about them and treat them with great respect. So just because most of us had more drug experience before tripping and it worked very well, doesn't mean taking a psychedelic first will be automatically "too much".

i was told by a friend to smoke first just to get used to being in an altered state of mind, and that seems to make sense to me. weed seems more mellow too, so i think it would be better to start off with.

anything to prevent a bad trip is worth a try.

This could backfire with dramatic results. Weed could easily throw you into a panic attack and that would set you up for a difficult trip on the first go. Getting a little more experience with weed will tell you how your high will be effected by different strains, different amounts smoked, and the smoking apparatuses you use. So I'd recommend getting good at your ability to enjoy weed before *adding* weed to your shroom trip. (I have read your other thread on 'smoking soon'.)

Another bit of advice I might add is to start small, like try a 1/16th(= 1.75g). Rationale: It's your first trip, There are many trips to come. Plus, erring a bit on the low side on dosage can give you a really powerful but not utterly mind-disrupting trip. That trip, in turn, can provide an awesome foundation for future psychedelic explorations and experiments.

I'd hate to begin my tripping career with a bad experience. I've seen it happen too many times and some people can get over it and trip happily away after a bit of psychedelic/or meditation work, but some people just overdo it and have a really bad trip and it poisons all future exploration for them.

My Experiences in the Introductory Phase: My first shroom trip was 1/16th and it was extremely intense: psychologically. I was fine, but it was truly mind-bending. Awesome, but one of the most powerful trips I've ever taken. It turned out that the shrooms we'd gotten were unusually powerful, so I was happy that we'd taken a 1/16th. When I was first getting into psyches, like 20+ years ago, I would always be the one asking to take half of what everone else was taking if it were my first time with a certain drug, new formulation, new strain, you get the picture. I do tend to be cautious until I know what I'm dealing with. I'm also a small woman and I figured that if my Psydelic Warrior Friend #1 (6' 5") was taking 3, I'd take one.

Just another thought on preparing for your upcoming trip… I've covered the bases: low dose, don't smoke out when you take your first trip or at least save it for the last glowing embers of the comedown. On preparation, have a safe, calming space to be (Outdoor is good if you have some where warm to crash after you've been tripping ballz for 4 hours in the freezing rain). Trip only with people you know will be reliable and experienced, meaning they won't freak out or just disappear. So that kind of covers set, I'm sure you've read more about it on Erowid and BL (food/supplements, drink, comfort, activities, shelter, etc.)

A suggestion for helping you create a better "set": I recommend starting to practice some sort of meditation to help you relax in front of the fears or mental challenges that may present themselves during the trip. I don't know if you meditate or do yoga on the regular, but I've found meditation and yogic breathing meditation (pranayama) to have really improved the quality of my trips because both practices give you the tools to step back from a potentially dangerous mental sinkhole, and just look at it and let it pass by. And it's just healthy mind/soul practice anyway.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself. With all of the info right here, all you need for a glorious first trip is a good group of friends, some quality shrooms and some "safe" locations where you can feel totally at peace. Be safe and enjoy!

Thanks for all the advice but i think you misunderstood a little. sorry i wasn't clear about this, but i mean should get a little more experienced with pot separately before trying shrooms by themselves. i'm not very serious about drug abuse (being addicted is the last thing i want to be though i know there is no physical addiction with psychedelics) so i don't think i'd ever combine them. though i have a long time left in life so the time will probably come eventually.

thank for the advice though.

I would say wait at least 5 years before trying shrooms.
You are way too young to be taking psychedelics.

i have immense emotional maturity, i write alot about philosophical ideas, i have an extremely open mind, and i am constantly told by adults that i have a much larger than average amount of worldly smarts.

i'm still gonna do it. :p

Nothing like a fourteen year old kid who thinks he is ready having his ego blown by psilocybin. Happened to me, and I swore off mushrooms for the rest of my life. It was an extremely frightening experience. I didn't understand the concept of a bad trip being a good, normal thing. I tried to fight the fear and was blown out of this dimension.

I ate LSD many times after, but I refused to eat mushrooms for around 6 or 7 years. I loved them after this long long break, and during the next trip I regretted ever having abused this psychedelic.

I won't try to change your mind, it is just my two cents.

im sure im one of very few on here but i have never smoked anything at all.. no weed. no tobacco. nothing. i enjoy mushrooms in fairly large doses.

i did a hell of a lot of research before i decided i would try mushrooms to make sure i knew what i was doing before getting in over my head.

i was also 23.. not 14. id say if youre not going to wait make sure you do your research. dont just do it because youre not supposed to.

Smoking cannabis might help a little, but there is really nothing that can completely psychologically prepare you for a psychedelic trip. You will understand this when you are tripping.

I guarantee you that you have nowhere near enough life experience to have any amount of emotional maturity. Just sayin' haha. I said similar things at 14 (I'm 17 now) but of course I was completely blind to how much transformation I still had to do.

That sounds way more mean that it was intended to haha, sorry dude. See, I can still tell by your post that you're very intelligent. And in many ways I'm sure you are much more mature than your peers. I'm just being an ass about it because you shouldn't let it get to your head.

Ignore the elitist-type people who say "you're no where near old enough to handle the IMMENSE EGO DEATH TRANSCENDING MYSTICAL NUT GRINDING MUSHROOOM TRIIIIIP!!!". I don't understand how the hell anyone can expect another to just suddenly "realize" that a bad trip can be a positive thing, like some grand drug use epiphany from the heavens. Some things you just need to be taught by more experienced people, that's why we're here motherfuckers! Wisdom may come with the years but only a dumb ass would expect that to include a step by step guide to taking strong psychedelic chemicals. Seems like a terrible disease has been running through PD, its main symptom is assuming that your personal experience with psychedelics is anything more than that. It's 100% subjective, there is no age where your suddenly "ripe" enough to trip.

Mr.Firsttimetripper, go right ahead and do this if you so please, if you really are completely comfortable with it. Don't fight a damn thing, let it do its work. You'll be fine.

I don't think smoking weed will help you during a mushroom trip at all. Mushrooms were the first psychoactive drug I ever took, before smoking or drinking or anything. Even if you're used to smoking weed you still may be no where near ready to handle the almighty mushroom. If you're already dead set on taking the shrooms though just fucking take them and be prepared to get your ass handed to you, just be in a safe setting and have a trip sitter. If I was in any other type of environment than the one I was in when I tripped my first time I would have absolutely lost it. Good luck kid

I've been doing loads of research for over a year now, and i still haven't taken them yet. I'm going to continue my research as well while i get more experience with pot, and then try mushrooms. believe me i'm not in over my head and i'm certainly not doing it because i'm not supposed to.

i want to try mushrooms mostly because it intrigues me. i guess part of it is because it seems fun, and i know alot of people who say it's an amazing experience (including my mom), but it's really because the subject of mind altering substances is fascinating (i'm planning on majoring in psychology in college and becoming either a therapist, psychiatrist, or something in a drug related field).

thanks anyways for the advice. i'm still gonna do it though :D

you probably still do have transformation to go as well if you're only 17 (i know that i do). all i mean is that i'm very emotionally mature for my age. i get what you're saying and to some degree it's probably true.

haha thanks for that advice. i agree that it doesn't matter your age. just if you think you're ready or not (and someone else isn't going to change your mind anyways. if you want to do something badly enough you're going to do it regardless).

thanks for the props :D

Of course I do, never denied that :). It's that mind frame that the psychedelics tend to get along with.

Thank you sir, some people will tell you you're too young out of love though, too. hahaha. They may have had a disaster of a trip at your age and feel obligated to keep that from happening to you.

i agree with that point too. it would suck to have a bad trip.

Bad trips, when your mindset and physical setting are wisely chosen, are very frequently happening for a good reason. Maybe it's something in your subconscious, or something you've been consciously suppressing on your mind. There could be some type of character flaw being brought to your attention, enabling personal growth with a clear direction.

Bad trips aren't a big "oh shit!", they're an opportunity. On that note, yes, they do suck. =D

yeah i see what you mean.

(random note not really on topic... i became a bluelighter in 4 days. not sure if that's an accomplishment or not, but i think 55 posts in 4 days when i got to school every day shows that i don't really have a life... haha nah i have a job and stuff so it's all good :D)
