Men who regularly smoke cannabis may be prematurely stubbing out their sex lives, Australian research shows.

Men who smoked pot daily were found to be four times more likely to have trouble reaching orgasm than those who did not inhale, according to the La Trobe University study.

Other daily male cannabis smokers experienced premature ejaculation at nearly three times the rate of non-smokers.

Professor Anthony Smith said while the habit often had a significant impact on a man's sex life, the effects were not always something the smokers would consider a sexual health problem.

"The findings suggest that men are self-medicating with cannabis to delay orgasm," said Prof Smith from the Melbourne-based university's Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society.

"While many male smokers experienced sexual problems, they also reported more partners than non-smokers.

"Marijuana users were twice as likely to have had two or more sex partners in the previous year than men who didn't smoke cannabis."

The study took in more than 8600 people, aged 16 to 64, who were surveyed by telephone as part of the Australian Longitudinal Study of Health and Relationships.

Participants were asked whether they had used cannabis in the previous year and, if yes, their frequency.

Overall, 8.7% of those surveyed said they had used cannabis in the past year, with twice as many men (11.2 percent) lighting up compared to women (6.1percent).

People under the age of 36 were more likely to smoke marijuana than older participants.

The research also found women who smoked cannabis daily were more likely to have had two or more sexual partners in the previous year.

They were also seven times more likely to have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection in the past year than non-smokers.

I totally call bullshit on male daily smokers being more likely to have more sexual partners than non smokers. I was a bonghead for years and it fucking killed me socially and made me a shit cunt with women, every heavy smoker I know feels the same awkwardness from it.

I have resented pissing in a cup for most of the year until lately where I realised when I smoke now it does affect me in that way and pretty much always did I just wouldn't admit it to myself. I am now SO glad to be off the daily bongs and its impact on my social interactions is pretty much the only reason, if it wasn't for that I'd happily suck down cones all day every day for the rest of my life.

Weed does make it take a little longer to cum but not by much, a few drinks will have the same effect and also make you more social instead of less.

I can believe female daily smokers have more sex because obviously people who use drugs daily lead a more hedonistic lifestyle and in general it is the male who has to pursue the women. Even though they might have social problems aswell its obviously easier to be the one being pursued than to do the pursuing.

This article seems like a crock to me, its funny anyway because if anything they are probably making cannabis look more attractive to young males who may read the article.

not a daily smoker. But back when i did smoke, it made me horny as hell. And my and gf (she was stoned as well) had great sex.

So from the article I have learned: people who smoke marijuana can have sex for longer because it takes them longer to reach orgasm. And that people who smoke marijuana also have more sexual partners than people who don't. Sounds pretty good to me.

Weed seems to give me more anti-social anxiety if anything. I can't be alone so I am always with friends and I'm always high. So my social life increases heaps when I smoke and if there's girls around I won't let weed effect me. ;)

Drunk + Stoned sex = Inability to orgasm for me. Lucky I don't generally have sex for my pleasure.

When taking all of the above I sometimes actually can have trouble keeping it up ... but when I can its the only time I can perform like a real life porn star and stoink for hours and hours hahahahahah
