question for iraqi/afgani vets - drug use in the military?

first off let me give you my deep appreciation for the services you provided your country. it certainly is enviable.

was wondering about the drug situation was being a soldier stationed in the middle east. Of corse herion in the Vietman War was rapant for many reasons and that got my started thinking about two things:

1.Is heroin big with soldiers in the middle east? That is where 95% (maybe exaggeration) is grown and processed.

2. Is crystal meth big with solders? it has certaintly made it way across the US and considering where the mojority of soldiers are recuited from...

the "middle east" is certainly not a big producer of opium/heroin. afghanistan? yes, there is a lot of heroin produced and exported from afghanistan. hardly any in iraq.

i don't follow the news that much but i don't think that heroin abuse among us-soldiers is a big issue in afgh./iraq. - for a variety of reasons, which i won't go into detail about now and maybe even don't know much about.

meth? might be an issue. but nothing serious- i guess ;)
 
a buddy of mine who got back from iraq said it was difficult to find drugs cuz he said if a soldier asked a civilian then 9 times outa ten then the civilian would think it was a settup or something and just said in general the locals werent helpful in regards to drugs

but i would assume afghanistan would be a little different
 
The only people in afgan. that would/are doing opium based drugs would be the high-ranking officers that can actually get away with it (thats just my guess). U would be amazed at how many powerful/rich people use opiate based drugs around the world.
 
I don't think it's all that prevalent but, there was a BLer not that long ago that would talk about using medical supplies to get high. I obviously am not gonna drop a name.

I know from friends that they do get drug tested at least before they go and one marine said at random while stationed in Hawaii. I would also imagine maintenance of a habit would be pretty fucking difficult and probably wouldn't last too long.

Actually I had a friend come back from his first tour in Iraq a few months ago, and I briefly asked him about drugs over there. He's in the 101st airborne I believe(could be wrong) but anyways he said weed/hash was easy to get from the locals, and a lot of pharms were available in certain "stores" which locals apparently were very friendly in regards to helping them obtain opiates and the like. I know he went over there with a mild oxy habit, and came back and still had it, so..
 
Very interesting topic indeed.

I'm not very knowledgeable about the military but i would assume that all the "medics" have access to lots of morphine and other opiates...

did he say what pharms were OTC? in Iraq? Afghanistan?

^ It's more about military doctors prescribing the right pharms so that drug-testing is not an issue. Whatever the pharm is that (I think) begins with a D and is essentially meth -- that's a popular one for military docs to prescribe.

Not dextroamphetamine matador... Although dexedrine is definitely nice...

It would be cool if there were actually BLers that went to Iraq that could comment here instead of a bunch of civilians speculating. Probably not too common for soldiers/Iraq veterans to be BLers... :\
 
^^ well Amps were def popular in WW2 and have been popular with the military since then. back then it was both D amp n L amp that were used. who knows what exactly is used now but it is def some Amp and as long as it is Pharmacuetical i doubt the military would care if it was Meth
 
"Go-pills" (dexamp) are sometimes issued to pilots going on long distance sorties.

First of all it had nothing to do with that, and second of all, read...
Dextromethamphetamine = methamphetamine = Dextromethamphetamine8)
 
I'm curious how many soldiers smoke weed, I seen a vid of some afghani soldiers smoking weed and laughing as they get shot at lol.

I think being high in combat would be pretty nice if it was an energetic strain. Adrenaline sorta takes over in the situation anyways making you clearheaded.

Also a friend whose dad used to be in the navy told me they used to smuggle back Hash and shit from India all the time by sticking it in candles.
