Personally, I breath really loud and strange...and sometimes I make *grunting* sounds lol..... be careful dude...the last thing you want is to scare your mom and have her find you semi-conscious. That would really disturb her in all likelihood, and she may even call an ambulance if she doesn't know whats going on....best to have a sober friend with you.
 
Study objective: We compare adverse events, efficacy, and length of sedation of intravenous (IV) versus intramuscular (IM) ketamine procedural sedation and analgesia for orthopedic procedures in the emergency department (ED). Methods: Pediatric patients receiving ketamine for orthopedic procedures were enrolled in a prospective, randomized, controlled trial in a children's hospital ED. All patients were initially randomized to receive ketamine either 1 mg/kg IV or 4 mg/kg IM. Demographics, adverse events, sedation efficacy, and length of sedation were recorded. Results: Two hundred twenty-five patients were randomized (116 IV, 109 IM). Two hundred eight patients, aged 14 months to 15 years, completed the study, 109 IV and 99 IM. Respiratory adverse events were similar between groups (IV 8.3% versus IM 4.0%; odds ratio [OR] 0.47; 95% confidence interval [Cl] 0.14 to 1.6). Vomiting in the ED was more common in the IM group (26.3% versus 11.9%; OR 2.60; 95% Cl 1.2 to 5.9). Using the Faces Pain Scale, patients in the IM group reported significantly less pain from the procedure. Video observers reported significantly lower distress in the IM group during the painful procedure (Observation Score of Behavioral Distress scores 0.35 IM versus 0.74 IV; mean difference 0.38; 95% Cl 0.04 to 0.72). Length of sedation was significantly longer in the IM group (median 129 versus 80 minutes). Satisfaction of sedation was high in parents and physicians, with no difference in reported satisfaction between groups. This study was terminated early because of nursing resistance based on the longer recovery times observed in patients receiving ketamine IM. Conclusion: In this study of pediatric sedation for orthopedic procedures, we found that ketamine 4 mg/kg IM was more effective than 1 mg/kg IV but demonstrated significantly longer recovery times and more vomiting.
 
the k hole is a ridiculous experience. a blew a gram line at once and ended up in baghdad fighting in the war seconds later.
 
[Ketamine Subthread] Intravenous (IV) Administration

I use ketamine IM and am curious to try it IV, just to see the difference...Is is worth it? and what are the technicalities of doing it IV? do you mix it with distilled water or do you use saline? or any other important stuff I should know??

I have never IV'd anything before, and I don't plan on making a habit of it, I am simply curious after having read a few things about IVing K...

any replies greatly appreciated... :)

Take the same precautions you would with IM - fresh, sterile needles, a micron filter, sterile saline or bacteriostatic water and of coure ketamine. A sealed vial would be ideal as the K is already sterile and in solution. :)

Personally I just use tapwater, a cotton filter and crystal ket. D9's method would be ideal, of course. The main risk from IV would be a dirty hit, in my opinion, so as sterile as possible but you can get away with less than ideal preparation better than with IM, I suspect. A dirty hit mostly means feeling shitty for a few hours but an IM infection is often a lot worse.

Some love it, some loathe it. I find it kinda stimulating in a sense. It comes on strong as you would expect - those distant helicopters come in to land fast. Can't remember the dose I used first time IV but think it may have been 25mg. Best to start fairly low cos it's not to all tastes. IV ket <3
 
I'm fond of IV, IM and nasal and not sure I could pick one winner as they all suit different moods. I guess if I could only pick one then IM is the best all-rounder but I love the wonk from a few cheeky lil lines too. And being an ol' needlewhore I always have a softspot for IVing stuff. Never tried oral or rectal though. They don't seem too popular really.
 
I'd used drugs IV for 12 years and was still deeply wary of going the IM route with ket. Unsurprisingly I had nothing to worry about. Dead easy and all but painless. I loathe IM injections usually but with ket you hardly feel a thing (if injected nice and slow certainly) and the result is really worth it, in my opinion. I strongly suspect you would agree should your needlephobia fade someday :)

I hope it does fade but then again I also hope it dosen't.
I really wanna try IM K, but at the same time I just don't want to get involved with needles. I've been in the same room with someone shooting h and almost got sick just watching him. My heart starts pounding and I get nervous whenever I see needles. That's how bad it is. :\
 
Believe it or not I was exactly the same. I nearly puked the first time I saw someone shoot up and had been terrified of needles my whole life. The only injections I'd ever had were a coupla vaccinations as a toddler. I didn't even have the usual ones you get at school and that. Hated needles. Then I let someone shoot me up with smack and the needle stole my heart forever. Seductive lil sexy swines are syringes. So good... when used carefully, safely and in moderation at least.

I usually use my thigh muscle but have used my bicep and backside too. Although I managed to shoot into an artery in my arse region once cos I was drunk as a skunk and got careless - didn't bother to check it before injecting. That was a whole heap o' no fun :|
 
Yes I've only had the occasional vaccinations as well. I haven't traveled much, so I never needed to get shots for other countries or anything like that.

Ok, you seriously need to stop reading my mind, cause I've always thought this is how I would eventually begin to use needles. I've had the exact same idea for years. That I'll eventually give in to the girl I'm dating/fucking who uses and will let her inject me....Then I'd inject her with my dick =D

It was actually a fella who popped my IV cherry. My other friend got the same treatment and his response was "Fuck me! You couldn't have made me feel better if you'd slid your cock up my arse!". I've shot up ladyfriends with various substances - usually their first time - and best sex ever often ensues. I know it's not big or clever to introduce people to needles but if done safely then it has its place, in my view.

The artery full o' ket involved a trip to hospital (and that's a whole long tale of hell in itself :|) and having to walk back in my slippers and a t-shirt in the pissing rain. Ket can kill shot into arteries from what I've read and also cause blindness, organ failure and all sorts of Bad Things. Deeply unpleasant experience. Always check you're registered where you want to be and don't shoot ket into arteries, kiddies :|

It'll definately be a while before I decide to take the plunge...if I even do, I'm perfectly content with nasal ketamine for now.
One thing is for sure though, ketamine is the only drug I have ever thought about injecting, and to me that means something...

ayyyyyee ket into an artery? That sounds like a nightmare, on sooo many levels. My sincere condolences! I find I.M. ket to be a thousandfold more fulfilling and interesting than nasal, and IV never quite did it for me. All power, no glory. For me its like the difference between 5 meo and nn dmt. IV K always just SLAMMED me over the head when done in adequate amounts, and a one dimensional rush in smaller amounts. Whereas I.M is virtually limitless. K was the first drug i ever injected, and it kick started a love affair with the needle and a swift transition from psychedelics to hard drugs that took over a decade to correct. This same thing happened to several mates of mine, so be warned, doesn't seem all too uncommon. What better transition from psychedelics to heroin than psychedelic heroin via the needle? ;D cheers, be safe.
