I know that in Pikal Sasha states that he wrote the book before he wrote/published articals on his research, and I know that ge is pretty old now. Regardless I think a version of the seris that includes sources. I think that would help many people.

much 3> for Shulgin

The times I have asked Sasha when his next book is coming, it has been a few more months. It must be scary big by now, having the name "psychedelic index" considered years ago. Since he had to deal with some backlash from his previous books, I'm guessing that he is planning this next book to be his last, and he probably plans to add material until he can't, so...

I <3 Sasha too.

need not be him

He could always have someone else add sources. I own both books but would buy them again if that was done.

BTW anyone know his approximate age?

Shulgin is 84 now. these books were published as a means to keep the research he has done publicly accessible. if he had not done that all his work would very likely have been seized by government upon his death, and sealed away barring any further research.

but now

It could be done. Not true examples but think Naked Lunch, and Ulysses.

Also he could have it done posthumously. Not that I wish him any ill.

when asked for the reason behind the publication of both books in an interview, that was his reply. he coupled the synthesis recipes with a work of fiction so they would be one whole, making it difficult for the government to seize or censor his work after his death.

edit: said interview

Yeah!! I hear the isoquinolone book is not that exciting, doesn't have to be hundreds of new inventions but I really love to read something from the guys hand again as well!!!!

I smaller than or equal to 3 for Sasha as well. :D

My guess is that he is waiting to publish his book until he dies. That way he could continue to conduct his work, making the index larger.

There have been cases where people have waited until nearly their death or post death to have to published to just simply not have to deal with the backlash of the material they wished to print....

I can't speak for delic but I know that in the early 2000's, he was very good about responding to questions. I emailed him, if I remember, right via his website. regarding the relationship between toxicity and benzine rings (aromatic) rings. More specifically concerning if there is any correlation between the # of aromatic rings and how many other elements are bonded to them. My question was more specific than that but you get the idea. He did respond. I also know other people who have contacted him and received responses. Note this was years ago, considering his age I don't know if he is still able to make time to do so.

Every chance I get. The latest was during his presentation at the 2007 Burning Man, where I stood up and posed the question I figured was on every mind. He assured me the book would be out by that October. Just a few weeks ago I heard through the grapevine that the monster is still growing! I just hope I will have enough lifespan left by the time it is published to finish reading it!

The thought of a new book by the guy makes me all tingly on the inside. Not only are P/TiHKAL great reference books, but I actually couldn't put down the "story" side of it until I'd devoured every last word :D.

Someday an enlightened future society will consider Shulgin to have been an equal of the likes of Einstein.
