Trippy Videos and Movies (Psych Media Subthread)

The Holy Mountain, as stated, is good for tripping. But it needs to be seen to be believed.

Judging by post content, many people seem to only read the original post and a few posts prior to their own. So, again: the psychedelic media thread in this forum and similar threads in Film and Television are good resources.

Herzog might be boring for some. Aguirre, The Wrath of God I feel pretty confident about recommending, though.

This thread has just prompted me to find a digital copy of the Beatle's 1968 Yellow Submarine.

Fucking amazing tripping movie... first time I saw it was on 32mg of 2c-i... that was a trip... I literally have looked for a copy of this film for 3 years now... and finally found one... Thank you OP for the excellent movie this thread has led me back to. :D

^The Holy Mountain is one of the best... I think Herzog (much as I love him) might be a little heavy on the nihilism and despair for tripping though lol

I'm obsessed with the films of Matthew Barney. Gorgeous, pristine works of art: The 5 Cremaster films (2 & 3 especially) and Drawing Restraint 9 (which goes great with ketamine - so many hidden passages, tunnels, trap-doors, liminal states, folding rooms, etc)

Unfortunately they must be downloaded in order to be seen - unless you want to pay the $100,000 dollar price tag for the full Cremaster Cycle DVD set!!!

Thanks for this recommendation. I was obsessed with going through secret passageways, crawl spaces, trapdoors, and riding dumbwaiters when I was a young child (where the escalator goes after it sinks into the floor was and endless source of fascination!). Today, ketamine with psilocin is a forgotten dream come true for me. If I can find this film I'll watch it before I pull "Simulacra and Simulation" from my rotating bookcase.

Thanks for this recommendation.

Yes, the Cremaster films are likewise filled with tunnels, passages, elevators, etc.

I acquired mine through bit-torrent but if for some reason that doesn't work you're welcome to download them directly from me on the Soulseek P2P network.

This offer applies to anyone who's interested. These intensely psychedelic films really do stand alone and I'd be happy to help them find an appreciative audience. :)

I defy anyone to watch Lessons of Darkness and be bored. Reminds me of Koyaanaqtsi but with a poetic German voiceover :)

Doing so as we speak. Thanks for the recommendation. Herzog isn't all nihilism though ;)

My recommendation for this post is Jan Svankmajer <3

the simpsons

also: waking life

WAKING LIFE IS BAD, A BAD MOVIE

\

ALSO: Lucy in the sky with diamonds? I've never accually seen that while tripping though.

'Where's Poppa?' freaked my friend out pretty bad/good. it's a comedy that is awesome.

Ha! Currently the second topic under "Lessons of Darkness" on that IMDB page you linked to is titled, "Wow, boring!" While films like "Rescue Dawn" are certainly not nihilistic, you went on to recommend a very dark film about the horrors of Gulf War 1s oil fires! Next, you recommended "Lunacy," a surrealist piece about an insane asylum that, if I recall correctly, Svankmajer himself called nihilistic. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of all of these, but they're some of the bleakest films in existence. If you're a person like me--and, clearly, Shambles--for whom beauty, intriguing content, and skillful execution completely outshine depressing stories and subject matter (I don't think a film has ever made me depressed, BTW), by all means go for it.
