Just one I heard paraphrased today but...

[on the topic of Liverpool being named the European capital of culture]

"It has made a difference.... when they steal your wheels now, you find your car's been propped up with books, not bricks!"

Made me fucking chuckle!

Also:

Churchill [on alcohol]

"in defeat you need it, in victory you deserve it!" =D

"This guy could fuck up a cup of coffee."
"I have one commandment. Be aware of your own mortality. Because as you live and achieve, the clicker is going down".

"Time to live, time to lie, time to laugh, and time to die. Take it easy baby. Take it as it comes."
-Jim Morrison

“Always do right - this will gratify some and astonish the rest.”
-Mark Twain

“If you would lift me up you must be on higher ground.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Yeah I like Emerson's quotes a lot myself. I believe there are a few good ones scattered throughout this thread (it would take hours to go through them all lol). But yeah I have a whole folder in my bookmarks for quotes/quote websites. Once this thread is going to archives I'll edit my original post and add in the websites I like the most - or maybe I'll do it before than, we'll see.

Btw, I like the "Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience" that's a good one.

"and remember this: the world is a sick, sad, lonely, beautiful place so make a point of living perilously while concurrently being excruciating, exquisite, productive, resourceful and kind.

what i might mean is: don't be a common imitator or spectator: do something singular, exceptional and/or profound. help somebody especially if you think you can't. be brave, be sweet and be abnormal. this is my unrestrained advice to you, even though i don't know who you are and even though you never asked."

Never underestimate the pain of a person because the truth is everyone is struggling. It's just some people hide it better than others.

I'm tired of being nice to people who don't give a shit about me.

Sometimes the pain's too strong to bare...and life gets so hard you just don't care. You feel so alone you just sit and cry...every second you wish you could die. Then you start thinking who would care...if one day they woke up-and you weren't there.

I just came up with a good idea (I think), and would love everyone opinions on it.

What if once a month I posted a theme (which everyone could PM me ideas and I go by majority rules) for quotes?

To all mods, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this idea (since this thread is obviously big already and will continue to be until it ends up in archives).

And to everyone else, please, PM me or AIM me (preferably PM) your thoughts on doing this. I find myself looking at quotes that are related to how I am feeling, or what I'm going through at the current time, so it would be nice to see quotes relating to one topic (or a couple) rather than just random ones (however I am very happy with how this thread turned out, I still remember the day I created it, over 3 years ago!).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

And now back on topic...

“Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town.”
-George Carlin

“You do anything long enough to escape the habit of living
until the escape becomes the habit.”
-David Ryan

“If addiction is judged by how long a dumb animal will sit pressing a lever to get a "fix" of something, to its own detriment, then I would conclude that netnews is far more addictive than cocaine”
-Rob Stampfli

i think i see where youre going, and i could see it becoming something i would enjoy; if you mean mentioning what the quote means to you, how it affects youre life, and if at any period during that month, the quote is outstanding because of a current situation, or you develope a relation you previously didnt have to the quote. that would interesting to me, is this what you mean?

could other members create a quote theme?

post in social and we will see what gets stirred up, i will just copy my reply here, there.

;)

Because gratification of a desire leads to the temporary stilling of the mind and the experience of the peaceful, joyful Self, it's no wonder that we get hooked on thinking that happiness comes from the satisfaction of desires. This is the meaning of the old adage, "Joy is not in things, it is in us."

-Joan Borysenko

"The light at the end of the tunnel is the light of an oncoming train" - Half Man Half Biscuit.
