"The goal of life should be the ability to both laugh and cry on cue." - RedLeader (last time seeing van Dyk)

Very nice, thanks for contributing your personal quote, I always like seeing ones people come up with - especially when they are good ;)

“You cannot be friends upon any other terms than upon the terms of equality.”
-Woodrow Wilson

-David Tyson Gentry

"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
-Seneca

"We all dream a lot - some are lucky, some are not. But if you think it, want it, dream it, then it's real. You are what you feel."
-Tim Rice

“Nothing happens by chance, my friend... No such thing as luck. A meaning behind every little thing, and such a meaning behind this. Part for you, part for me, may not see it all real clear right now, but we will, before long.”
-Richard Bach

*bump*

Common people I could use some good quotes now more than ever!

here's one I just thought of...

Love me for who I am, or hate me for who I am not.

A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.
-Douglas McArthur

"he who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man" - Hunter S Thompson

"what will be will be"

This one helped me so fucking much whilst I was going through my schitzophrenia years ago :

Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end.

^^Very true, I think I posted that somewhere in this thread myself.

Never heard this before, but also, very true and it's inspirational.

"Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much."
-Oscar Wilde

"All this worldly wisdom was once the unamiable heresy of some wise man." -Henry David Thoreau

"A peace is of the nature of a conquest; for then both parties nobly are subdued, and neither party loser." -William Shakespeare

I forgot this one, it's kind of cheesy since I stole it from a movie, but hey, I know you all like it.

May the wind always be on your back,
And the sun upon your face,
And may the winds of destiny carry you loft,
To dance with the stars.

From the movie Blow, I have it hanging in my computer area though on the wall.
That is a great flick and great quote...It is reminiscent of the traditional Irish Blessing that reads
"May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand."

I like the Hollywood version though-The thought of dancing in the stars upon destiny's draft is much sweeter than the dread of worrying about drought and eternity...

Great thread...I have lots to add-but I will read through as not to repeat(unlike this one-it just struck me with such immediacy that I had to comment) and i will only add the cream of my crop-I have numerous notebooks full of hand written quotes I have stumbled upon along my way.I don't want to close this sucker out so I will try to be selective.
Thanks for the chance to share something of myself through the much respected words of my heroes.

WHAAAT???no Frederick Douglass yet?

"Without Struggle There Is No Progress."
~Frederick Douglas

What an amazing man.Born a slave-without anything to his name or able to name something he might one day own, except himself. He was a SELF MADE man-self taught. He became MORE,not because he had to,but because he COULD and because those who enslaved him neither wanted him to nor believed that he could.

Lyrics to "Parabola"

We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment,
We are choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside
This holy reality, this holy experience.
Choosing to be here in

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal
All this pain is an illusion.

Alive, I

In this holy reality, in this holy experience. Choosing to be here in

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal
All this pain is an illusion.

Twirling round with this familiar parable.
Spinning, weaving round each new experience.
Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing.

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. We are eternal.
All this pain is an illusion.

~Maynard James Keenan
.................from the LATERALUS album

some RWE and then goodnight...

"We gain the strength of the temptation we resist."

"We are always getting ready to live but never living."

"There are as many pillows of illusion as flakes in a snow-storm. We wake from one dream into another dream."

"People only see what they are prepared to see."

"With the past, I have nothing to do; nor with the future. I live now."

"Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be."

so many more....tomorrow:)

"One certainly has a soul; but how it came to allow itself to be enclosed in a body is more than I can imagine. I only know if once mine gets out, I'll have a bit of a tussle before I let it get in again to that of any other."
~ Lord Byron
