That hypoglycemic diet thing is interesting. I know that when i quit all i did was drink and eat sugary stuff. Id eat ice cream alot, popsicles, soft drinks, cookies, really anything with alot of sugar. So that makes some sense for sure.
 
The hypoglycemia thing is interesting - but I don't have sweet cravings unless I smoke a lot of weed! Wellbutrin killed my sweet tooth a few years ago.

Who else is in for OcSober? I think this could be really good for a lot of people in TDS. It's going to be my longest period of abstinence in many years provided I don't break.

My relapse last night has put me off alcohol. I'm still going to taper for safety reasons and not mess around with my meds. Also, I've reviewed the list of supplements SA provided and will be making a trip to the natural health store tomorrow.
 
That taper you posted sounds good Mariposa , I may have to try that someday :)

I'm not going totally sober but I will stop drinking hard liquor. Im really done with that stuff I think. Its just to hard on my body now. Probably going to have some wine tonight or something but not much. Im trying not to get to sloppy and when I do I usually pay for it badly the next day.

I actually just got a job interview so thats picked my spirits up a bit :)
 
So whats with the OcSober? Is anyone going to try and do it? I think id like to take a stab at it...
 
^I thiink we may have it to where you can be sober for any length of time, be it a day, a week or the entire month- But the thread will be there for the entire month for anyone to discuss and support each other......It will be entirely up to the person who wants to do it. I THINK it will be like a support thread basically- similar to that of Sober Wedensday that used to run in TDS many moons ago.....

But any of this could change as it is still in discussion ;)
If you'd like to give suggestions to how you would like to see it- We're open <3
 
I think that having it as a support thread is a good idea , I really like that name a lot as well

Having it be for people staying sober for any period would probably be best because the whole month thing might be a little intimidating to some. And if they failed they might be embarrassed to go back into the thread again. But anyway you guys do it I think it's a great idea and I would love to participate <3
 
Today I am 32 days without alcohol. Alcohol was ruining my life. I was drinking a fifth of vodka a night. I put myself in a treatment center for 28 days, which had intensive classes and AA meetings all day long. I found out a lot about myself while I was in there. I'm going to stay dry one day at a time.
 
I felt like drinking last night for the first time in months
Thanfully i didnt :\ . Even the smell of alcohol almost makes me sick to my stomach now.
 
Honestly, Charlie - it scares the crap out of me too. But this coincides with me taking an intensive course at a tax preparer school (starting OcSober 1st) to get my tax preparation license. It's 2 months and probably 20 hours a week between seminar and study. I am about to get a lot busier, and my resume will thank me in the end.

I really can't think of something more sobering than taxes. I'm not inexperienced as I've worked for tax lawyers and already know some, but this will be a challenge - the right kind of challenge, one I need to think, not drink, my way through.
 
So true mariposa, it can be to easy to pick up a bottle rather than pick up a study book but when you can do it, it is so rewarding!

I'm in for ocSober, i can't promise a month but even if i can be proud of going a substantial part of it sober then i think that may be the kick start needed to get some control over this. Good work lovelies :)
 
I have basically been drinking every day for at least a month. And I only drink hard liquor, with a horrendous tolerance and cross-tolerance. I am very afraid.
 
drank again today, just lost a close relationship about 4 hours ago. :[ All I have is my student card and they dont sell beer, or liquor on campus.
I have one beer left in the fridge.

Thanks very much for asking. I'm feeling OK. I'm tapering with beer and I got Sierra Nevada, which only has 5% alcohol. I am allotted 3 this evening, 3 tomorrow evening, then 2 days of 2 beers and 2 days of 1 beer. This is MUCH LESS and more rapid than the HAMS-recommended 1 beer an hour. Last night was a one-off with spirits and I didn't even get a hangover, so I think I can do it.

I have a bunch of appointments this week for which I'll need to be sober as well. It's as good a time as any. I may have finally found that elusive bottom I seem to have been seeking. Took me friggin' long enough, right?

I even faced my first trigger - I avoided completely the liquor aisle at the supermarket and bought healthy food instead.

So: so far, so good. I will be enjoying edible and smoked cannabis throughout the process (cannabis has never been a problem) but otherwise, just my meds and a list of supplements a country mile long.
