BOSTON -- An unlicensed barber with a lengthy rap sheet is accused of offering more than grooming services at his South Weymouth business, according to The Patriot Ledger.

Police said Ronald J. Souza Jr., 44, of Rockland, was also peddling heroin out of his shop at 80 Pond St.

Police arrested Souza on Thursday in front of the business, Ronnie’s Barber Shop, after detectives allegedly saw him purchasing a quantity of heroin from a Boston supplier. A search of the building also yielded a small amount of heroin and hypodermic needles that were hidden above the shop’s suspended ceiling, police said.

Officers had already obtained a search warrant from Quincy District Court and were planning to raid the shop in the afternoon, but they chose to arrest Souza earlier in the day after witnessing the alleged drug deal on the street, the paper reported.

Police said neighbors became suspicious of the activities at Souza’s shop because customers frequently stopped by the store and left after only a few minutes. The town’s drug unit began observing the shop about two months ago.

“(Souza) was selling heroin right out of the shop pretty much every day,” said Detective Sgt. Rick Fuller.

Fuller said police had previously seen the man who allegedly sold Souza the heroin visiting the shop during their investigation. Gilson Semedo, 23, was also arrested and charged.

Souza pleaded innocent in Quincy District Court to charges of possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute and conspiracy. Semedo also pleaded innocent to heroin distribution charges. Both men will return to court on Sept. 12.

Fuller told the paper that Souza has had 57 encounters with police in the past, including prior drug charges in Weymouth and Boston.

Police said Souza does not have a barber’s license, and he used his father’s Florida license to obtain a permit for the shop, which has been open for five years.

Give him a break. The guy is trying to run a business. At least he isn't sitting home collecting welfare and foodstamps.

the way my barber did my hair last time i wish i was on heroin... that ass hole butchered my neck

I don't see anything wrong with what he was doing.
It's not like he was selling heroin to children, or something that would hurt people.
His buyers know what heroin does, and they enjoy it.
He provided them with a safe place to purchase their chemicals, so they wouldn't have to buy on the street.
He didn't cheat people, or force them to buy anything at gunpoint.
Sounds okay to me.
Better than people who create child pornography, or those who lie about who they love in order to have sex or marry someone with money, or people who leave their families because they can't handle the responsibilities.

Let this guy go, and focus on those who really make big problems in society.
Let's start by going after Bush and Cheney, for their major crimes against humanity.
They can only dream of being as harmless as this guy.

Yeah I used to know a few small mexican markets in downtown which were selling dope. If they knew you, you could walk in and buy balloons of some fire tar. Theres a lot of businesses, especially around here and mostly hispanic run, which sell drugs. They usually don't last too long though, before they get popped. Nothing new though with this article.

Convenient, but usually overpriced and not as good quality. Best is when people set up their own water ice stand, bbq, whatever. They'll sell beer out of the cooler and dope. 1 =D

I used to goto NJIT in Newark and we used to get off this old guy who was trappin out of an old ice cream truck, shit he used to roll up in that thing at like 1 in the morning, no wonder he got popped
