after liike 6 years IV i still maintained access to veins. The trick is to ROTATE!! Unlike most addicts who find one good spot kill it too much get that big pink/blue raised bump w/ lip & then keep hitting it(shudders). I've black scar tissue over the main veins on my arm from frosh year but aside from that they're still there SO remember to ROTATE!

how about not shooting up anymore? take a break; do the methadone. maybe they will come back

Yes.

Its that easy isn't it?

I haven't shot in my arms, feet or hand for *years* and nothings come back.

OP - do you know that you need a bigger needle for the groin?

If you workout vigorously you can encourage your body to grow and enlarge the veins you do have in order to supply oxygen to your muscles more readily. If all you've done is quit IV'ing, its not surprising that regrowth has been at a minimum.

This is true i have helped my veins stay nice and healthy with a lot of circulation from means or working out. It also helps enlarge ur veins making them naturally pop out, which makes them really easy to hit. I recommend itleast curling some 10 or 15lb weights at the very minimum. Pushups are also good for this.

I concur. I do a lot of working out, and this really helps keep my veins healthy.

Yeah its dont wonders for me, i only have 4 main spots i hit.. And i hit them quite often, and i can get any of them any day or hour of the week.. Going through about 4x 8mg dillies a day and my veins are good and accesible. You people should try it, and it makes you feel better about yourself. And how can you deny being stronger and looking better? ;)

i had a great vein on the inside of my right ankle for some reason the one on the left was to tiny to hit, but the vein on the right was big enough to drive a car through haha

but really if you do try using the inside of your ankle be careful not to miss, because it can take a lot longer to go down due blood moving more slowly down there, you could form an abcess very easily

My old roommate I met through a drug rehab (which I later believe was a cult, or at least cult-like place) came in with some nasty looking shiny purple lines in his arms. He did IV coke/heroin/meth for I think 4 years or so.

I'm telling you this because I'm not judging you at all. Hey, we're all drug users here. Some of us worse than others, but that doesn't mean shit IMO. Some of us "need" it more than others I think.

Anyways, I would suggest trying to switch ROA. (routes of administration) I would suggest chasing the dragon if you're heroin is compatible. It will hit you very quick, and there is a rush to it, just not like IVing. I think you obviously need to get away from the needle at this point man. The fact you let it get this bad is not a good sign. I believe you should be able to at least try it this way. Sure it's not going to be what you're used to, but do you want veins or not? I mean they aren't just useful for IVing you know...that's not why they are there.

I agree with the prescription for exercise too. Keeping very hydrated can help you get more vascular as well. If you leave them alone long enough, you will grow new ones - maybe even big ones, and the scars will heal and you won't look so bad. (My roommate who is still clean since I've met him has no more shiny purple vein lines in his arms, you can't really even tell that he ever did unless you are searching for it. It's just a kinda dark line in his arm that could be attributed easily to a cut wound or something else. He works construction and his veins came back just as big as I've ever seen them too.)

Please consider your options at this point. I don't think continuing to IV should be one of them, but alas I nor anyone else can change your mind, only try to give your our points of view and maybe some suggestions you hadn't thought of.

Good luck my friend! I hope you find a suggestion that fits your needs. :)

rotate, use a new needle every time, the smallest gauge you can, all great advice...but there comes a point when you simply have no veins left after 25 years of IV'ing.

switch to a different ROA. i had to. it sucks but when you have seriously no veins left you really don't have a choice. you get used to the slow onset/no rush thing since staying well and maybe catching a little nod is the real goal.

Perhaps you could supplement with L-Arginine? It's popular in the bodybuilding/weight-lifting world as it enhances blood flow and expands veins.. Dipping into a lower body fat percentage will also reveal more veins.

Instead of worrying about finding a vein, you really need to stop injecting. You don't seem to see this problem. You're just casually talking about it like it's not a problem. It's a MAJOR problem. If you can't stop injecting on your own, you need some serious help. At the very least move to a new method of administration or you're going to have a very short life.

Yeah the first step in realising you have a problem is not just shrugging it off and denying it, its facing it and attempting to better yourself.. Think about your future and not your next fix, i know its not this simple because i myself have been through it and am currently going threw it again, thankgod i just found a good steady bupe connect.. Now i just need to get my shit together again, and do a taper.. And start my life all over again.. In the end its a never ending battle, some people have the willpower to beat it and some dont..

Maybe drink loads of coffee? Caffeine is a mild diuretic which will remove water retained and will show more veins. One of the main reasons why bodybuilders use more powerful diuretics is to make their veins more prominent. Since it's such a mild diuretic it might not have any effect though.
