Junk Mail Used To Smuggle Prison Drugs

Queensland prison authorities say they are being forced to employ more creative methods to detect jailhouse drug smugglers after it was revealed prisoners were trying to sneak in drugs glued to junk mail.

Corrective Services officers working at the Woodford Correctional Centre, west of Brisbane, intercepted a letter containing a brochure on Monday. A search revealed a clip seal bag containing buprenorphine glued inside.

Police from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit will now attempt to trace the source of the letter.

Buprenorphine is an opiate pain killer used to treat drug addiction.

"I think it's fair to say people are becoming quite creative in the way they are trying to get this stuff into (prisons) and we are having to become even more creative," a Corrective Services spokesman said.

Corrective Services Minister Neil Roberts applauded Monday's bust and warned anyone trying to get drugs into prison was running the gauntlet.

"We use a combination of intelligence, electronic security measures, drug dogs and electronic testing," he said.

They should let prisoners that are addicted to opiates take Suboxone. I mean seriously its like torture to make someone go threw opiate withdrawal, especially in a jail. Plus if they are on BUP they won't be able to get high on other opioids/opiates.

Heres another lil trick we used to use, lawyers documents cannot be opened by jail officials, so if your lawyer comes to see you and hands you an envelope with something in it, it will not be searched

thank me later

I went to rehab with a guy like you. He had his lawyer put 'smokes' from his girlfriend in the letters from the lawyer. His girlfriend was putting meth/weed in his smokes. He got searched maybe the 5th time cause he was selling in jail, and got busted for it. The poor lawyer was some 30 year old woman fresh outta school, who knew no better. The cops offered him simply concurrent time if he would finger his lawyer. He told me he was sitting in the jail with his fucking lawyer and she was just BAWLING her eyes out. He ended up doing an extra year for that. Didn't pin his lawyer though (the way he tells it)

Yeah, they should have access to them but it doesn't surprise me they don't and have to resort to such methods. LOL at the lawyer story, good on your mate for taking his lumps and not turning her in though, that would be messed up.

From what my close friend has told me of his jail experiences, its not that hard getting drugs or sneaking it into jail. Idk about prison though.

When he spent a couple months for probation violation. He snuck in matches and suboxone in his shoes. Said that if he had the money or whatever currency it is they use in there he could get any common drug.

But this is ridiculous to make a news story over a class 3 chemical being smuggled into prison. Oh noez hwat will we do?
