The Recipe Thread (EADD Version)

When it comes to flavours the Indians know how to do it. :)

I'm making a beef curry tomorrow Livinginthemoment, first time in ages. ;)

I don't agree with you on this! The Italias come 1st in the world for their delicious cooking! :D

Italian food I find faltless-especially their country meals are absolutely tasteful!

I guess you are eating your beef curry tonight!! I don't accept curry invitations, it is like a giftless gift to me! Learn to cook Italian!!

....and I do agree though, lentils and cheek peas are great!!

Zuccini omelette

Cut zuccini into small squares, fry together with chopped onions, throw in beaten eggs, salt and pepper and it is easy and quick and tastes nice!

I use them in pasta all the time. Just fry them if in a hurry or roast them in the oven covered in olive oil (along with peppers, tomatos etc) and chuck them in with a tomato pasta. I like to add nicely grilled crispy bacon too.

i love alot of italian food, especially when its done properly but lets face it, italian food can be pretty mundane or boring... theres only so much you can do with pasta/lasagne etc etc

my favourite foods would have to be indian and mexican

i make a good chili con carne =D yummy

and one of the best indian restaurants in the world is a few mins from my house

once you find a really outstanding indian restaurant you will understand how good it is, its just a shame that the majority of indian restaurants are sub-standard tbh

Best Indian restaurant in the world? That's quite a claim, is it world renound or do you just really like it? :D

True though majority of Indian Restaurants and takeaways in the UK seem to be dire, most round here are with a few exceptions. Generic and bland menus, stodgy tasteless curries which are all based on the same recipe to save time and money and nothing unique or imaginative.

Italian food is known for only pasta? Or pizza? :\
Then you are eating at the wrong restaurants! =D

Nop, Indian does not do it for me I'm afraid! :|
I pass outside their restaurants and the smell makes me ill!:X

Here is a link with Italian meals in London<------------------------------

Of course there is more to Italian than pizza and pasta but to be fair it's all most restaurants sell just like there's more to Indian food than curries and rice yet you wouldn't know it based on most indian restaurants in the UK.

OK smarty pants you got me with your analogy, it's just their spices makes me ....go dizzy, you know?

OK, I just had and antipasto rye bread sandwitch with peppers, semi-dried tomatoes, bocconcini cheese, pesto, prosciutto and eggplant. Delicious!

Spices = flavour.

Depends on the spices.

Cuisines with to many spices I believe were built up to compensate on the poor tasting or lack of decent first ingredients.

Best cuisine in the world is anything based in the Mediterranean. Tasty and healthy when done properly.

I don't think you can give a definitive best cuisine in the world, it's totally subjective.

But just because it's a factor of longer life expectancy doesn't have my mouth watering.
As far as I can tell working in a hospital generally the older you get more things start to fail living you weak and in pain, fun times!

Hello bluelight I have some fresh prawns for dinner tonight and wanted to make something other than asian/oriental food with them.

Any ideas?

Great recipe for a kind of mediterranean pizza analogy:

Take wholemeal pitta breads
Spread generously with red pesto
Top with tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, feta (all chopped obviously).
Grate parmesan and black pepper, and drizzle olive oil on top.
Cook at 180c for12 minutes or until the pitta is hard.

Sounds simple but tastes delicious.

I also added some grilled artichokes from the deli counter, they worked really well.

^^^Totally agree with the above!! <3

^^^For sure, but too many people share the thought of "best in the world" when it comes to Mediterranean! Like the subjective part-we share this subjectivity a lot!!=D

Everything is almost subjective :)

^^^Yap-agreed :D

Too late now, you have digested them too! I was going to suggest with tomato souce/gravy-or with garlic toasted and pilaf :D

A quick bean salad

mix a can of mixed bean salad in a bowl, chop some fresh parslsey and mint, chop onions, squeeze lemon and olive oil-and serve!

Any meat will be fine with it, and even a potato salad or green salad with it! Wola!

chicken soup!

Boil a fat chook, you can then bake it in the oven with vegies for a different meal. In the broth, you throw a cup of rice and a little butter for a bit more taste and when rice is cooked, you prepare a lemon and egg sauce. Seperate the whites, and beat them, have two lemons squashed from their juice ready. Beat the egg whites to a light fluffy maringue then beat the yolks in, and when all done pour a little of lemon juice and little of the warm broth in bit by bit, then stir it all in the soup, pepper and salt and let it sit for ten mins. Yummy. Just don't curdle the egg lemon sauce and don't overboil the rice!

Potato croquetts.

Boil and mash potatoes, pour enough milk to make the mesh just firm, butter, grated cheese whatever you like, salt and perrer, fry chopped onion, mix ingredients well, make into balls or elongated (croquetts) fry into deep saucepan. You can wrap into crumps berore frying. Nice!
