I had my wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago...they strapped me down, put a nitrous mask on my face with their hand over my mouth, and then I felt the IV in my arm...I remember my eyes closing and trying to fight it but couldn't. I woke up feeling really confused and out of it, sat down in the waiting room and had to be given an ice pack because I was already in terrible pain. I couldn't eat anything more than plain mashed potatoes and chocolate pudding for about a week. They also gave me 5/500 Vicodin which helped immensely, I couldn't open my mouth to eat without it due to the swelling.
About a month later, I needed another oral surgery to remove a cyst they found with the panoramic xray. They asked me if I had enough nitrous last time, I said no, so they increased it, and then knocked me out with the IV again. When I woke up I didn't feel as much pain, but I couldn't chew on my right side for about 6 months, and had many stitches in my mouth and couldn't really eat for quite some time. That one was so bad they had a refill on my Vicodin.
OP, I'm assuming you've had the procedure by now...if not, make sure you take your antibiotics and painkillers as directed, and if you're anything like I am, my face swelled up and was all sorts of bruised and yellow and gross...ice pack was my best friend =P Overall, it's not so bad, and once you get it over with, you don't have to go through with it again. These are the types of procedures they make these strong drugs for.
WHENEVER anesthesia is involved, it is best to tell them of your past drug experience and any tolerance...most of the time, they aren't concerned about you abusing what they give you, since you will be in legitimate pain, and it's their job to help you get through it as comfortably as possible.
