LeBron James VS Kobe Bryant

kobe > Lebron

for a more historic look on the debate.

This list is a compilation of old stats on the web.

226 - The amount of points Wilt Chamberlain scored over a three-day stretch (highest amount ever) in 1962.

225 - The amount of points Kobe has scored over a four-game span.

100 - On March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain set the NBA single-game scoring record by tallying 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169-147 victory over the New York Knicks.

81 - On Jan. 22, 2006, Kobe dropped 81 points against the Raptors in a 122-104 Lakers win. The 81 is the second highest single-game point total in NBA history.

65 - The amount of points he totaled in the Lakers' 116-111 victory over the Blazers on March 16.

61 - the most points ever scored in madison square garden. acomplished by kobe beating micheal jordans fifty five

62 - On Dec. 20, 2005, Kobe scored 62 points in three quarters against the Mavericks. Heading into the fourth quarter, he had outscored the Mavericks, 62-61. (this was the year the mavericks went to the finals)

40 - The amount of points Kobe scored each night in 9 consecutive games in a row in the 02-03 season averaging 40.6 the entire month of feb.

12- the number of 3 point shots kobe made in a single game against seatle, 9 of which were in a row. this is the NBA record for most 3 pointers in a game.

3 - Wilt Chamberlain, Bryant and Jordan are the only players in NBA history with four or more 60-plus games. Wilt accomplished this feat 32 times, while Bryant now has done it 5 times and Jordan has done it 4.

for a more recent look just take a look at the conferance finals playing out right now.

kobe's lakers are up 2-1 while lebrons cavs are down 2-1. and both of the lakers wins are because of bryants clutch plays in the last few minutes, while lebron has been choking in the fourth quarter, sure he made a great buzzer beater in game 2, but kobe is just more reliable in the fourth quarter hands down. in game three for the cavs I saw lebron miss 2 freethrows in a row when the cavs needed him most down by 6 with under 2 minutes to go. those 2 misses gave him a total of five missed freethrows in the fourth quarter alone. he then missed two consecutive 3 point shot attempts. play like this wouldnt happen by kobe. when its clinch time. kobe wills his team to a victory and that is why hes the best.

Kobe is the better player for now, but lebron is still young so you never know what time will give us.

easier answer: it was Kobe. this year has been LeBron's. the future is certainly LeBron's.

easier answer: . . . this year has been LeBron's.

the future is certainly LeBron's.

Based on what?

The severe inferiority versus Kobe in terms of clutchness?

The ZERO rings vs. THREE (going on FOUR)?

The racking up of wildly great STATS on a team with a terrible supporting cast?

Because, if THAT'S the thrust of your argument, then I think I remember a dude named "Kobe" who recently did just that - in fact I reckon he once scored EIGHTY-ONE FUCKING POINTS IN A GAME (81!), just one month after he OUTSCORED THE ENTIRE OTHER TEAM (WHO WENT TO THE FINALS THAT YEAR) FOR THREE QUARTERS & WAS ON PACE TO SCORE OVER 80 POINTS IN *THAT* GAME, TOO!

Until LeBron leads his team to just ONE Title, not only is he NOT the best player in the league . . .

. . . he's NOT even in the conversation.

Yet.

this isn't the flakers vs. cavs thread, this is the lebron vs. kobe thread. the fact that the lakers minus kobe are better than the cavs minus lebron, only further proves the point that lebron IS in the same conversation jusifiably. lebron has a lot less to work with, yet can still at least GET to the finals with less than what they have now and are right now fighting to stay alive in the ECF with a sub par but just barely productive enough to stay alive offense. yeah we had the best record in the nba so we should be able to live up to that shit, but we're not the seasoned lakers, we have to come into this fame at a slower pace. we're still a team that's learning together.

you can BARELY say that one is better than the other. the only reason i'm willing to tip the scales is because kobe is a proven sniper in the final minute. and lebron's got to learn to steady his sights or speed that thinking process up. other than that, they're practically the same on a level of productivity per their roles on the team.

Get past Orlando, and the discussion BEGINS to even be worth having.

Until then, LeBron's just a freak of nature with loads of potential who has NOT yet figured out how to lead his team to a title.

And that ONE humoungously important quality, in my opinion, is a necessary but insufficient element of being considered "The Greatest Player In The NBA."

Kobe has semi-done it THREE times (if he WASN'T considered to be AT LEAST as valuable as Shaq during that THIRD straight title, would he have had the leverage to get the Lakers to get rid of SHAQ *AND* PHIL, just so they could keep Kobe?), and has since then, come within 2 games against a FANTASTC Celtics team from doing it last year, and is now in merely one win from getting to The Finals a Fifth time.

Once LeBron leads his team to winning ONE single solitary NBA Finals *GAME* - not even a series - a single fucking game! - as one Quentin Tarantitno might say:

"Let's NOT start sucking each other's dicks quite yet."

but LL, why come into the kobe vs. lebron thread and use the cop out for EVERY response "the conversation isn't even worth having yet?"

if it's not worthy having it, then stop having it. obviously it IS worth having. and you could see lebron single-handedly lead the cavs to their win last night. the entire 4th quarter was lebron vs. the magic. which is realistically as much a knock against cleveland as it is a compliment to lebron. the fact is, lebron led that team from the top of the 3 point line and in for 32 straight points whether it be scoring or kicking it out so that someone else could shoot a perimeter shot. like they were saying during the post game, you can't put THAT much of a load on one guys back the remainder of the series. if they try to play that way for the next two games, lebron's body can't withstand THAT much pressure and, yeah, they'll lose, then again if the rest of the team doesn't step up, they'll lose. it's a full team effort and even though lebron can (virtually) take on an entire team, he can't sustain that level of play for two more full games (and nobody else can for that matter).

we'll see how the next two go before this becomes a "discussion" i suppose. :\

Well I would say the MVP pretty much sums it up.
Lebrons is superior to Kobe.

You can refer to my previous post as a response.

And until LeBron closes games consistently like Kobe and has the hardware along with it...LL's right...there is no comparison.

LeBron's done a fine job upping his game this season statistically...as well as being more of a defensive presence...but none of that matters in the end if the results are not going to lead to rings. MVP...that's nice. I'm willing to bet he'll have more than Kobe...but so will Steve Nash probably...so that isn't the best indicator.

Should Kobe add one more ring (and possibly more in the next few years) that makes it that much harder for LeBron to get to the same level Kobe's at.

I second that.

Kobe is gettin older, he's still got skills, but he just aint what he used to.

Watching LeBron do those ally-oops and shit is ridiculous.

He's got some serious skills.

straight ball player right out of high school.

When they've put your high school game on ESPN you're good.

You sound like Stuart Scott, only dumber, if that's logically possible.

When they put YOUR high school diploma in your hands,

Then come back here and explain to me why LeBron, his semi-clutchness, his lack of an inside game, and his 1 trip to the Finals, in which his team lost all four games by a total of about 100 points (to a rather pedestrian Finals opponent, by the way) is more impressive than Kobe's SIX trips to the Finals before his 31st birthday, culminating in FOUR championships (by next week) - that's more titles won than All-Time greats like Wilt Chamberlain or Larry Bird won in their ENTIRE CAREERS - makes LeBron better than Kobe.

Until then, enjoy talking to youself in Ebonics.

I hate Kobe more than anybody can imagine, but for people to come in this thread and say LeBron is better after watching the past two weeks of the playoffs, I have to ask you: Where did you get those drugs you're smoking, and can I purchase some? Beause you have to be on some serious shit to say LeBron is better when he couldn't even reach the Finals after finishing with the best regular season record.

just got back from LA today, was sitting in the staples center yesterday watchin game 2 of the finals. anyway thought ide say it looks like kobe is well on his way to a 4th ring while lebron has 0. there is no debate

when people talk about the best players to ever play the game, these names are always mentioned: jordan, magic, bird, kareem ect. do you know why? because all of those players were amazing and yes had phenominal stats, but they also each had 3 or more championships.

if lebron were to retire next year he wouldnt even go down as the 24th greatest player let alone be in the discusion for the greatest. If kobe were to retire next year he would still at least be inthe discusion for the all time greatest..

until lebron gets hardware he just another great player

lebron = allstar
Kobe = Legend

Until then, enjoy talking to youself in Ebonics.

hahaha

Kobe has already proven he can win a championship with Shaq, and now he has one without him. He will go down in basketball history as a top ten player all-time, the second best 2 guard next to some guy named Michael.
