Ketamine and urination

Hello,

I'm curious whether any regular ketamine users have experienced the following problems:

  • Pain while urinating
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Extremely frequent urination
  • Abdominal 'cramps'

I was personally using ketamine fairly regularly (a gram and a half a week, roughly) and experienced all the above. At first I didn't attribute it to ketamine, as you might expect: I thought it was something to do with the fact that I was taking a lot of shit speedy pills that made it impossible to piss for a few hours and that was doing something detrimental to my bladder. So I stopped taking said pills and just did ketamine and crystal MDMA. Symptoms continued. I began to experience a sort of 'cramp' at random intervals, more like a twinge in my abdomen, pretty much where my bladder was, which was quite unpleasant, especially when I was stoned and I couldn't stop focusing on it.
I would go out to a rave, have a fun first few hours and then be in absolute and utter discomfort for about and hour and a half where I'd really need to piss but be unable to. I went to my doctor, got certified clean for urinary tract infection and a long list of STI's, and then I found this:

It's clearly a fairly widespread problem as there are a number of articles on the subject (I picked those three links pretty randomly). It also has nothing to do with adulterants in the ketamine as I was very close friends with my dealer, who got it from a pharmaceutical source. Cessation of ketamine use (I still do it occasionally, but nowhere near as regularly) did seem to help but I'm still not totally back to normal.

What I find interesting is that noone seems to have come up with a satisfactory explanation about why this occurs. Could it have something to do with the 'drip' going through the bladder? I only ever insufflated it, so that is a distinct possibility. Have any IM users experienced this problem?

If anyone has any suggestions, please go ahead and make them..

Well...welcome to BL.

You can find much infomation about that online, and on here. UTSE

I have experienced all of those. 1g-4g a day for nearly a year.

the drip definitely isn't going through your bladder, it's going through your GI tract and probably being mostly absorbed in your stomach and duodenum. whatever it is is probably neurological in one way or another. i doubt it is localized to the bladder because ultimately, there is nothing special about the bladder over any other smooth/skeletal muscle in the body other than how its contractions are controlled. hence, probably neurological.

I assumed ketamine problems stem from neurological issues as well, but recently I read a lot of stuff about regular K users getting thickened bladder walls, frequent ulcerative cystitis, related kidney dysfunction and similar conditions.
Google it, at this point I really doubt it's coincedental.

It appears that dissociatives deplete your B12 and B11, both of which are needed in nervous signal transmission... not exactly sure whats going on there though
and this is a relatively long-term thing.

Yeah, good thread, and QFT!!!!:

I've always felt that ketamine to be a bit of a sinister fellow. Perhaps very charming, but sinister nonetheless. I'm glad that I've curtailed my use to tryptamine combinations, LSD comedowns, etc.

Before even mentioning these horrible side effects from prolonged use, one must realize that the addictive nature of ketamine makes it more likely that you will actually continue to use the substance to the point that it harms you. That's the part that worries me
.

Other substances come to mind as well, like GHB.

i get that too with ketamine(don't have any problem pissing but the abdominal pains are terrinble)
it''s a known fact that ketamine affects the bladder and the kidneys, so my advice to you is try to drink some chammommile tea (with lots of lemon) and while not on ketamine drink as much water as possible...and for the ifections the doc is gona give you some anti-micotics(i thin so) and it can help
ket affects the kidneys bc residue stores there (i don't know this for a fact i read it some where..i'll try to find a link or smth), and can form kidney stones. i curently have 'a small deposit of 'sand' kidney ' or atleast that's what the doc said...*

* what i said here is based on personal exp and documentation, but i can't say for shroe as i think nodobie studid ketamine that closesly for regular daily use

ps : i heard drinking lots of beer(not alcohool) helps eliminate kidney stones =D

I have had all of the above problems. When I have had a few beers and lines I have to pee every 10-15 mins (no joke). My theory is that K causes you to have less control of bladder mussels, consequently after a period of frequent use your bladder will shrink. That’s just my guess though.

On a slight tangent has anyone else experienced a lack of ability to socialise after heavy and prolonged K use? And i don’t mean while K'd, cos I have been finding it very hard to talk to people (esp new people) even when not on the drug.

As for the stomach cramps this is GERD. I found it to be better if I don’t swallow the drip. Some K seems to be worse than others. Eat healthy too!

Hi guys,
I'm not what i what call a really heavy k user, particular compared to some other people i know, none of which seem to have any problems.

But recently i've started needed to urinate really frequently, i also have pains in my lower abdomen, my bladder i suspect, whenever i've drunk a few glasses of water. Symptoms started about 3 weeks ago and were pretty bad at the time, not as bad now but still haven't gone away. After i've gome to the toilet, the urge to urinate never quite leaves me unless my bladder is totally empty and i haven't drunk anything, i'm pretty worried tbh :(
I first used k about 6 months ago, never normally use it more than once every few weeks, give or take. typically about 200-400mg in a night. This isn't that much right? Obviously ever since the symptoms appeared i stopped taking k. I've been to the doctor because its also possibility that i could have an STI (they lost my test results so the jury is still out on that one), or a urinary tract infection. For which the doc has given me some antibiotics, which i'm praying will sort it out.

Anyone else experienced any similar symptoms and been taking k roughly the same amount, and for the same period of time? Thanks!

Though there is a lot of evidence that is showing prolonged ketamine abuse (usually daily) causes thickening of bladder walls and damage to kidneys, your case doesn't sound like that. If you've only been taking it for 6 months at a reasonable rate, you're fine.

People who have these problems usually have a ketamine addiction and are taking grams daily. It actually really sounds like a bladder infection. Good luck with the antibotics and STI test, but I wouldn't stress to much about the K.

Cheers guys, that makes me feel alot better, i've been really stressed out about it. I've nearly finished taking a week long course of antibiotics prescribed by my docter called Keflex, basically don't have any pain at all now but whatever it is i don't think they have fixed it.

The STI test came back negative (woop woop!) but i'm still getting the constant urge to urinate all the time, it hasn't really gone away, really odd. Its been exactly a month since the symptoms first appeared, like i said no more pain but the going to the bathroom all the time thing is getting really, really annoying...

I can't help thinking K might have something to do with it maybe its just me being a paranoid idiot, but my use really wasn't that much, i know more than a few people that have been using it alot harder and alot longer than me with apparently no issues... As i said in the post above, haven't touched the stuff in over a month and if this carries on much longer i don't think i ever will again. Doc said if the antibiotics didn't sort it out they'd do some kind of scan on my bladder and try to find out if its a problem there.. Fingers crossed :(

First it was said injecting ketamine produces less of these side-effects, based on the false claim that it had to do with not being in powder form when ingested.

Then it was rejected for this reason.

But what about the difference in metabolism between injecting and oral? I heard taken oral K turns into a lot of norketamine. Does that mean that when you inject it or insufflate it lets say drip-free that there is a lower net amount of norketamine produced in the process? Because that could account for the very first claim being true in some other way.
Also: when you inject it and it is more potent, I take it there are not more side effects per mg so side-effect wise injecting would really be a good solution?

Does anyone know if the kidney/bladder problems supposedly go away with IM/IV injecting?? any evidence or experiences? thanks guys x

edit: Also does anyone know anything about Ketamine and interactions with pain killing drugs? (ie: Tramadol 50, Co-Codamol?) I have been prescribed Tramadol for kidney pain and although it is making *some* difference, it hasn't knocked much off... :(

I had a really bad experiance after going a bit overboard at a party a year or so ago, I had also drunk alot of alcohol and it wasn't until getting the train home the next day that I realised I hadn't urinated once in the past twelve hours when I started getting a sharp pain in my lower abdomen (where I presume my bladder is), still had slight pain for the next two days and found it really difficult to piss.

IV/IM makes no difference cos it's norketamine that causes K-cramps and you can't avoid that whichever ROA you use cos ketamine metabolises to norketamine however you take it - only way to avoid the problem to use less ket, unfortunately.

I can't say for sure about interactions but have had no problems using ket with co-codamol or tramadol (I'm scripted both for a back problem). I actually find there's a nice synergy between tramadol and ket which is pretty miraculous seeing as tram screws just about every other drug going :D

thanks shambles :), s'what i needed to know, and probably should have already known but thought taking the blind alley might work for a while....obviously not...:\

Frequent urination and urinary discomfort can also be caused by an enlarged prostate. Any of you who are having these problems but don't use very much K should go to a proctologist and get your prostate examined. Shit, you should do it even if you are using a ton of K, better safe than sorry. An enlarged prostate can be treated fairly easily with meds, but prostate cancer is pretty fucking serious
