Post heroin depression

Post heroin depression can last a long time. Its one of the reasons its so hard for me to stay clean. I get like a month into sobriety, and things I used to enjoy still aren't fun and I feel like shit. I cant sleep at night and as a result Im tired all day. After a couple months of this I just cant take it anymore and I go back. I know that eventually it will get better and Im just prolonging it by going back, but thats the nature of addiction, ha.

After the first week of physical w/d's are over, this is what always gets me, the depression and cravings. Everything you do , you think how much better it would of been with a fit full of boy. Miss the "nod" like your dead grandma.

I bet this is what gets most opiate addicts to relapse, I know its what always drags me back in, the projectile liquid diarrhea isnt so bad........them damn cravings and the blues are what get me.

An update on my situation...

I've basically been keeping to my biweekly schedule with a bit of cheating in between.

I've been able to keep the wd's at bay by tapering down my use following a binge. I still only use 3-5 points per binge (that includes the doses for tapering). The worst I get is a runny nose and relatively minor depression and increased irritability/anxiety.

Since my last post to this thread I have been laid off from my job and I've noticed the post-binge depression is less severe than it was when I was working.

I didn't particularly car for this job and I'm wondering if my depression had more to with returning to a 40 hour/week routine that I didn't care for than the drug itself.

Although interestingly enough when I was only using cocaine the Monday morning blues wasn't nearly as intense as the combined junk/coke blues.

withdrawal from heroin does/can cause depression - the heroin numbs your normal feelings so when you stop and start to withdraw your feeling come rushing back and can be intense sometimes - for eg. if you have something stressfull going on in your life - like a break up of long-time partner other stressfull event that may be on the back of your mind a lot - it doesnt boher you much/at all when your on heroin but come off it and it hits you 10fold.... the longer your on it the harder it is (I found)...

when i stopped using opiates i got all the obvious withdrawal symptoms but also my feelings came back like a rocket and I too started feeling depressed - worrying about how ive 'turned out' and stuff like that.. you must have something your actually thinking about (problem) thats making you feel like you wanna 'burst into tears'...

Cocaine IMO is worse for that sort of thing - as it is an 'upper' the 'comedowns' are severe and cause things like depression/anger really bad...

so doing BOTH will be really bad for you - especially if you have something going on in your life that bothers you.....

I reckon your worst time would be after youve used Heroin for more than 3 days then stopped and using coke after that for 1 day then stopping that - then youve got coke comedown on top of Heroin withdrawal - this will be the worst kind of depression/withdrawal

The depression you get from heroin and the depression you get from coke is different, ime. Your issues are compounded since you're using both simultaneously.

The depression you get from heroin, especially after breaking dependence, is drawn and not as pronounced as the depression you get from coke. For the first week or so it tends to get masked by the physical discomfort of withdrawal, and tends to be more noticeable if you're coming off a smaller habit without severe physical discomfort. But, as soon as the physical symptoms stop, you start noticing it. Nothing really excites you anymore, at least not as much as you'd expect it too. You find yourself being more emotional and irritable than before. You have trouble getting motivated to do things you should be doing. Etc. It's not crippling, you could still function, but it's kind of like a nagging feeling you just can't seem to shake off.

With cocaine, it's shorter lived, but it's more severe. As well as a stronger version of the symptoms of heroin depression, you don't want to do anything. You feel as if nothing except more coke can bring happiness. The normal ups and downs of a typical day are replaced by just severe downs. The first few days it's extremely hard, if not almost impossible to go about your daily business.

I've gone through both several times. Coke is worse by far.

You said you're chipping with heroin, but I'd say you're beyond that point. It stops being chipping when withdrawal symptoms appear, imo.

As for how to fix it, my advice would be to lower your use.

My DOC is still cocaine (La Junk's type A)

Huh??

but the heroin has become a weekly habit....sometimes 3-5 times a week.

[...]

I enjoy heroin...it complements the cocaine nicely...and I don't intend to go past the chipping stage

As said above, 5 times a week is beyond chipping.

Cocaine and alcohol are the most effective remedies I've found so far but I am open to any suggestions for a more healthy solution.

in my experience, cocaine and alcohol are the worst things you can do... physically they're the worst things you could be doing to your body (nose, liver, stomach, intestines, brain), and psychologically, they're both going to make you crash as hard as (if not harder than) heroin, making the cycle of ups and downs just longer and more drastic.

a hangover and coke jitters piled on top of heroin w/d, well... i know i could never tolerate it. and i tried several times.

Benzos (used sparingly), Sleeping Pills (ambien, lunesta, diphenhydramine), and Ganja would be a hell of a lot better than booze and blow.

Good luck man, and be careful. You're on the edge, and it sounds like you're tipping over the cliff. When I realized I was there, I threw myself right over to make the awful feelings of sitting on the edge go away... and I had to climb all the way back up (still not there yet).

It sounds like you're still in a position to walk away relatively gracefully. Booze and Blow are not the way to do that.

booze and blow are rougher in combination (cocaethylene, is a very rowdy careless drug) than their individual sum of negative hutzpahhhhh.

this will only rise your natural up to a higher fall but and here is the thing that helped me-if its a cycle you can get back from the black.

Thanks for your replies.

Just to clarify: I am not using junk 5 days a week. That was during my peak period several months ago. I am now down to about every two weeks (4 day run at most). The last time I used was a week and a half ago. Also, the wd's are almost non-existent, so I'd say I am well within the chipping stage.

I agree with the poster who said the post-binge depression is more intense if one's general life situation is stressful and negative. That makes sense.

ah, i see now.

too much "B" stuff around lately (which I suspect is lots of amphetamines being passed off as cocaine), that's why I gave it up all together. For every 1 "type A" i'd get, i'd get a dozen "type B"s.

phrozen is right the heroin/opiate comedown is psychologically pronounced (focused) once the physical withdrawl doesnt exist.

i found keeping yourself busy playing computer games, can make clean time go faster. i just bought world of warcraft for the time being so i can get alot of clean time on the board.

instead of just using more and increasing your tolerance.

safest way to take heroin

Thanks for your concern.

It seems you've already made up your mind that I'm predestined to become a full-blown junk fiend and that any attempt on my part to control my opiate use is just delusional thinking...the "disease" talking. Do I detect a hint of NA in your post, DiscoS?

I'm not taking a blind gamble here, as you seem to suggest. I see it more as a calculated risk...I have a pretty good idea with what I'm dealing with here and contrary to popular opinion I believe it is possible to enjoy opiates without becoming physically addicted or overwhelmingly psychologically dependent on them.

I do enjoy a good challenge and the more people think I can't do it...the stronger my will to prove them wrong.

I'll keep you all posted on how things develop.

Safest way to take heroin goes like this: It is called horse kick, you get high with alcohol after you are considerably high you take just on cig of heroin ( I smoke it) or what ever your ways are. It is safer by my experience. I do it once a week. Craving is there but no withdrawal symptoms. I started doing it this way after 6 months of being clean and intensely depressed.
