A Tennessee jury has found that police did not use excessive force in the case of the man who died after being tased a staggering 19 times.

The victim, 21 year old Patrick Lee was tased by police for resisting arrest outside a nightclub. Reports said that he was “acting strangely” and was under the influence of LSD at the time.

According to local reports, Lee’s parents sued the officers, the local Government authority, and Taser International citing wrongful death. The case against the local Government and Taser International were dismissed in 2006.

A lawyer for the officers claimed that they “were doing their best with the tools they were given.”

Experts warn that even being tased once can pose a health risk, and even the manufacturer Taser International states that for a subject in a state known as excited delirium, repeated or prolonged stuns with the Taser can contribute to “significant and potentially fatal health risks.”

Well, I can see how killing someone isn't excessive force. In this case it obviously was though.

There was no reason they needed to hit the guy 19 times to get him under control. Cops used to wrestle guys on PCP to the ground- people who truly didn't feel pain- and now guys on LSD are too much? Ridiculous.

These guys should be fired.
 
That is fucking bullshit! How could they ever justify tasing someone that many times? "doing their best with the tools they were given", what a crock!

Your tax dollars hard at work. Law enforcement has become a brutal, sadistic monster - criminals with badges.

The cops don't have tasers around here. I retired to a poor country in SE Asia.
 
so if i become a popo and taze drug influenced ppl until they die.

Great, people are thinking the cops did the right thing. Ok, it seems the only thing they had against this guy was he was "acting strangely" and "resisting arrest". He probably wasn't acting strange until uniformed men came up and started interrogating him. Second, was he harming anyone else? A person should have the right to "Act strangely" and trip balls in public. Mumbling randomness such as "Mnnnnnnnbvuuuuuuahhhh!!!! brackishhhhh" is covered under the first amendment. Disordely conduct is a law that is sending us deeper into a already stepped in police state.
 
How the fuck can you even taser somebody 19 times?
Im sure a couple of good hits to the head would be enuff to have taken him down without using excesive force
Tasers are good becuase they can be used to immobilize someone without killing them IF YOU USE IT PROPERLY!
If the person isnt reacting to the first couple shocks maybe you should try something else before you kill the guy!

if your by your self and trying to keep him subdued until backup comes....you may need to zap the person alot of times. esp if hes a big fucker and you not so much, and you dont want to kill him with your firearm. otherwise, it should be one hit and the other guy/gal should have cuffs on before he can recover. If you actually know what your doing...
 
This is rediculous! How can anyone not consider this excessive force?! I mean this wasn't the hulk or some crazy guy on PCP..

Even tripping on acid I don't think I'd be able to resist even one taser shot. I hope he appeals this and wins and those cops get some serious repercussions.

Just goes to show the prejudice most law enforcement have against drug users!

Cops used to have to take a shot of pepper spray to the face before they could carry the stuff.

Do these rules exist for tazers?

If not... WHY NOT?!

You should have to take a zap to the ribs before your allowed to carry one of those fuckin things...
 
When will you guys understand. Cops are the lowest of the low, they are all psychopaths. They are adrenaline junkies, just watch "Cops" and you'll see everytime they chase down a suspect at the end they are all hootin' and hollerin' like they won the lottery.
