A question for those who have gotten a DUI

I just read the OP's message and I was wanna say, I'm sorry that sucks. A year later my boyfriend is still paying a high price for his. Its very difficult to pick yourself up from. Fines, jail time, Counseling, Driving tests and Substance abuse classes...at least here.

What time of night was this?

That is unfortunate news as on the weekend nights I quite often consume around 20 or so standard drinks over a 12 hour period and drive the next day.

Lucky I am quitting drinking soon.

you should buy a personal breathalyser, i bought one a few months ago, for like 150 bucks or so i think. i use it all the time, ie if i'm driving to a gig or something i have a few beers early in the night, then check myself before i plan to drive home and if i'm over 0 (i'm on my p's) i'll wait a bit more then check again, don't leave till i'm on 0.

also good for checking if i'm 0 for driving the day after a big night. i've been pulled over a few few times at random at like midday or 2pm so i don't risk it at all unless i know for sure i'm on 0.

as for 20 drinks over 12 hours, everyone absorbs/breaks down alcohol wildly different speeds depending on their weight, and also muscle to fat ratio etc etc. for fun me and my sis both had a few glasses of wine, and a little while after we tested each other. she blew .08 i blew .01 and was on 0 pretty soon after..

Sorry but i have no sympathy for people that drive on alcohol, opiates or GHB and get arrested, or people that drive while high on benzos (read: not just taking their normal tolerance prescribed dose) and get arrested. the chance is just too high you'll nod off for a second or have a delayed reacion and harm others and yourself.

Utter crap.

A barrister can help mitigate your circumstances so that you get the absolute best possible outcome on the day - and while there are legislated minimums, it will be the magistrate's mood, what information they have before them and how you present, as to whether you get that minimum or something more.

this is true 1 of the boys tried to get his licence back the other day after 6 years without it and because he was on bail for other shit they no give it back to him

judge didnt like the look of him and actualy told him that
then some judges give other guys licence back that dont deserve it

There is a judge who automatically gives people the maximum even for small first time offendors no matter what reason and how much they've paid for a lawyer. He lost his son in a car crash and the driver was intoxicated. He doesn't say it but its well known around SE QLD. Basically everyone tries to ajourn their case if they know about him and its drink driving. He goes pretty easy on drug offenders and seems to speak, really, really really fast and sweats a lot :)
