TASTING an intravenous shot immediately after the injection

Anyone have any idea why this happens? Armoth seems to have a good idea, but somehow it just doesnt seem right, especially because (Ive heard at least) that the taste of injected cocaine is quite different from snorted or smoked, so it doesnt seem like just a brain thing. maybe something to do with the substance being in your blood and the blood going through the sensors in your nose and mouth? I dunno
 
It could be that when it is injected into your circulatory system that you taste it because the blood that is rushing through veins in your mouth contains the chemical traveling to your brain and thus you taste it.
 
I get that sometimes when I bang coke. Sometimes my tongue goes a bit numb too.
 
I didn't see that the OP wanted to focus on heroin in this thread when I made my post about bangin' coke. I have IV'd 100% pure heroin before and it has a nice, sweet kind of taste. Not sweet like candy or fruit but like vanilla ice cream, that's the best comparison I can make.
 
I had a Thalium stress test a few weeks ago and I could taste the thalium. and,....it was radio active. =D

It happens because the drug travels through the pulmonary alveoli in your lungs, which are responsible for gas exchange in the blood. Carbon dioxide and other waste is vented out, and oxygen is absorbed. When the drug travels through these veins, a small amount of it is ventilated and causes you to taste it at the very back of your mouth specifically, and usually not anywhere else.

As in NJ2NYC2NJ's case, I can taste it almost immediately after finishing my shot. So dope is immediately recognized as waste and vented out? It's amazing that the drug can travel that fast. Thanks for the info, I had always just taken it for granted.
 
When ya overdose they give you a shot in the hospital called narcan, you can taste that for a min.

Rrrreallly.....Were you in the UK,where they have 100% pure heroin ampules for injecting? If not, I would take that statement back........................

Anyways i am disappointed to see that it took almost two whole pages for anybody to be able to explain this. Bowviper beat me to it, but damn, that is sad. OD used to be the spot where this question woulda been answered in depth with a scientific explanation after like 3 posts....:(
 
I have had to have IV dilaudid for surgeries on my hand the past 18 months. I definitely taste something in my throat when they push the IV. It was funny when I saw this thread beacuse it was so prominent for me.
 
Heroin, and dilaudid are the only two opiates I've ever tasted in the back of my throat after IVing, oddly enough I've never noticed anything w/ oxycodone. Ketamine has a very strong obvious "taste" almost immediately after IVing, kind of metallic.

Bow-viper1, thanks for typing that up, it's one of those things I'd always meant to look into out of curiosity but always forgot about.

Read the thread linked to in the first post. I was under the same impression as you.


It's the same taste/smell I encounter when i lick the remains out of an emptied bag, only much fainter, but nevertheless identical in it's unique taste/smell.

It doesn't taste like the powder itself. At least not as the powder tastes if I put some in my mouth or from the drip if I snorted some. To me it's sort of a flowery sweet taste. The powder itself has a distinct "bitter" taste. Hard to explain, but if you've tried dope, its taste is unmistakable.
 
omg I cannot believe that I am the only person that actually HATES THIS TASTE! I cannot staand it....I dunno why? I mean I totally understand where everyone's coming from about loving the taste and everything..cuz right after you taste it ....you get the high..but for some reason ...I just can't stand it ...I guess cuz its just such a strong scent and I feel kinda powerless over it once its inside of me...I mean I guess it has a lot to do with guilt more than the anticipation of the high...I guess that's where I'm coming from and that's why I hate it I guess...I guess I'm alone on this one :(
 
That has got to be the greatest taste on earth. That was one of the things that made me fall in love with shooting dope at first , well besides the amazing earth shattering rush. I look forward to having that delicious sensation happen once more whenever I decide to start dabbling in heroin again :D

I agree.. man, I think I need to take a break from BL. It is so hard for me to be clean and constantly be reminded of all the amazing qualities of heroin :\
