Legality of importing mushroom spores?

Just wondering about the legalities of importing mushroom spores for cultivation? They are illegal in some U.S. states but not in others and I couldn't find anything about Australia, specifically NSW. Anyone know?

The strain is Psilocybe cubensis : Golden Teacher.
 
I beleive it is legal to import mushroom spores, considering they do not contain any Psilocybin.
 
yes, at least in the US you can buy spores just like you can buy RC's. But if they find out your making shrooms out of it then its illegal.

People have been done for importing spores.
 
Far out, that's rough... What are the penalties like in the case of being caught importing spores? Also, how would they possibly prosecute this? Would they just follow up the delivery address and fine/charge? Or only bother if it's a large amount?
 
^ I've never heard of anyone being charged for getting something mailed to them in a small amount like RCs, pharmaceuticals or spores, rather just 'Love Letters' from Customs letting you know they confiscated the goods.

I'm sure there have been people charged though, not sure what the penalties are like.
 
Penalties are usually financial, think a $5k fine and a conviction for those who keep pushing it after repeated love letters. Don't forget, all those love letters will be be produced if you ever land in court, demonstrating a pattern of ongoing non compliance with import legislation :P
 
Ah sweet, so it's only for repeat offenders on a large scale really. Love that the only real risk is losing the $xx~ spore...

You're actually pretty safe if you order spore prints rather than spore syringes. You just have to make the syringe yourself then. I've imported spore prints on two different occasions and have had no problems, but that's not to say you'll be fine, I guess there is still some minuscule chance you will be caught
 
How difficult is it to make your own syringe out of the spore print? The prints are about $5 more then add on a few more $$ for the syringe, is there an actual benefit to doing it yourself?

I would think it is very easy. Just do some more research.

Less chance of getting busted sounds like a good incentive to me! You'll probably also get several syringes from a single print.
 
i personally have never made a syringe from a spore print but had a friend who tried it several times and each time it got contaminated, i think it may be kinda hard to make them wihtout getting foreign bacteria in them, but def. doable, you just have to be verrrry sterile with it. luckily i live in the us and just order the syringes :)

Yeah, don't think I'll bother tbh... chance of contamination ruining it versus the extremely low chance of anything happening other than a love letter = hmm.

Why not just scrape some of the print into your medium?

Seems to work fine.

No it doesnt. Spores need to be hydrated. They are also illegal. Australian customs are a pain in the ass. U cant get anything decent through the mail and there are just soooo many awesome RC's out there.
 
You could always save the hassle, and the focus of law enforcement and NOT import.

Go to a field, pick some active shrooms, make your own prints.
use google for more information.
