k retarded question but i need an answer to be sure. if im going to a house that has smoke alarms hooked up to the alarm system so they cant simply be disabled. just wanna know if i like tape ove them with dct tape or something will they go off? sounds stupid but i dont wanna tak ethe chance because if there set off the poice are called to check it out. pretty much will i be ok either taping over them or should i even just leave them how they are? there will be alot of smoking going on inside the house and i dont want to take the chance of having shit get ruined
 
They won't go off unless you hotbox the room to an incredible extent, and i mean like...multiple blunts in a very very small room.
 
ya thats what im worried about though, theres gunna be like a public hookah and one room kinda designated for smoking, i now they dont usually go off but it would blow if they did
 
I'm fairly sure most smoke detectors dont go off for heat. They go off when smoking like smoke disrupts a stream of alpha particles conducting a charge. It shouldnt go off unless your baking the room to a big degree or your blowing smoke on it. If your concerned then dont smoke in the room.
 
I've never had the smoke detector go off just by smoking some weed or cigarettes. you have to blow the smoke directly on them to set them off.
 
Just smoke outside if you're worried about it.

Generally it's not a big problem though, unless it's one of those smoke detectors that I've seen used in college dorms that go off from candles, cigarettes, and incense.

I've smoked in places where I'd blow smoke at the smoke alarm and it wouldn't go off at all but if I burned toast or a waffle in the toaster for a few seconds it would go off immediately.

If you're worried about it, just tape a plastic bag around the smoke detector. It won't go off.

+1 to all three statements.

had a smoke alarm go off in college from two hits of weed, but the smoke alarms at my house won't go off if i blow it straight at them, though burned popcorn or fried steak hits them instantly.
 
I had a fucking nightmare with an over sensitive smoke alarm that was wired to the mains, I mean, if I even looked at this guy the wrong way he'd start running his mouth at alsorts of times in the morning. He's dead now. The bag idea sounds good.

Damn that sucks. The alarms in my dorm would only go off by heat so toking was no problem. But the RA's and cops, well that was a whole other story.

OP, sounds like you're having a party or get-together at someone else's house. I doubt the smoke detector would go off, but in a "public hookah" room you might achieve just that. This is one of those times where it might be best to err on the side of caution.
 
Uh just do what every normal person does.... Wait what drugs you on right now? Anyways you see ya gotta like take the fucking batteries out and mission accomplished unless your just afraid that will set it off in that case your screwed buddy take a Benzo or some shit to see if that settles your nerves and just take my advice and go ballz deep or go the fuck home.... or risk your dumb Duct Tape idea are you willing to do that especially after I just talked down on it lol.
 
As enlightening as that post was thomas, you forgot to read the first line of the OP. Maybe then you wouldn't have made yourself look a tard. :)
 
Was just wondering about smoke alarms myself, this clarified things for me. Thanks OP for posting this.
 
It won't go off but put a fan next to an open window and blow directly into is so that it wafts it directly outside. Or test the sensitivity by blowing tobacco smoke onto the alarm.
