pharmacy messed up my script (pills missing), what do i do?

i just got my scripts filled yesterday. one of my scripts is for 90 valiums.

when i got the bottle yesterday, it didn't look as full as usual, but i didn't think much of it, because they are small pills.

well, today, when i was taking one out (and it still not looking right), i decided to count them, and there was only 54 if there! meaning i was shorted 30 pills!

i'm definately gonna go to the pharmacy tomorrow and explain the situation, but i'm really afraid they're not gonna believe me.

beings they are are a controlled substance, they might think i'm lying or something, but i am definately NOT.

has anyone ever had this happen? what do you think will happen?

my doctor's office could call at any time and ask for a pill count, and then what?

this is so messed up!

do you think i'll get the rest of the script i'm supposed to?

anyone have any suggestions?
 
go to the pharmacy as soon as you can, ASAP! they have records to show how much inventory they have or should have and if your right, you will be aight.
 
If it's the truth, you are doing nothing wrong and are due your pills.
Call them ASAP

i am definately telling the truth! i'm really tore up about it, but you guys have made feel a little better.

i plan on going there as soon as they open tomorrow, with my bottle in hand and explaining the situation.

so thay have records of how many pills they have and stuff? that should make it apparent that mine are, indeed, missing.

the pharmacist even circled the #90 on the bottle, do they really even check these things?!

with the way people people abuse the system, and try and get meds without really needing them, i don't blame them for wanting to cover their asses.

i get them for severe muscle spasms and tension, and they work really well for me, after trying every other muscle relaxer out there.

i don't mind the fact that they can call for pill counts or give me random drug screens, but i'm afraid that they could do it this time, and i truly didn't do anything wrong.

i hope the pharmacy does keep really good records of how many pills they dispense and realize, they made a mistake.

I hate to tell you, but some pharmacist or pharm tech probably took your pills, which would leave their inventory where it is supposed to be. Be careful how you approach it, otherwise they might label you a drug seeker. This is why people say to always count your pills at the pharmacy. Its a hassle, but it prevents issues like this.
 
^^^ that is why i am so upset about this, i don't want to look like someone who abuses their meds, and have them call my doctor or something. i didn't do anything wrong! they did!

what would be the best way to handle this?

i will definately be checking my prescriptions for now on, before i leave. i just didn't want to look like an idiot doing that before.

this is such a shame.
 
Im in uk but when i picked up my happy pills the other day they were eight tablets short, and stuck a note on the front of my script saying we owe you 8 Dosulepin,we will have them for thursday. Do they not give you one of them over there if they give you your medication short? I do hope your tablets haven't been stolen,if they say they gave you them and your sure they didn't i'd kick up a right fuss coz someone in that pharmacy is obviously a thieving **** ! I have had this happen before (shorted 10 Vicodin ES's) when I asked the pharmacist to recount the pills. I asked "What would of happened if I went home and discovered this?" He said "You would have been out of luck!" So next time, make sure they do a pill count in front of you, or open the bag in front of them.

Random drug screens aren't necessary for a fucking valium prescription, that's ridiculous. People don't get phone calls for "pill counts" for any kind of benzo (or opiate) for that matter.

Quack doctors give out unnecessary rules and regulations, which cost more money and more time. You needn't answer a phone call for a "pill count" nor submit to ANY drug test for valium...its a schedule IV drug...people get schedule II and schedule I drugs without such things.

And clearly, you DO mind the fact that they do these things, since you're afraid you're going to get in trouble for something that wasn't your fault.

The people at the pharmacy deliberately shorted you on valium, such an odd number indicates someone pocketed a good amount of pills. The records will not show it, because it only effects you and not the store.

If someone didn't pocket the pills, then maybe someone was too stoned and fucked up...but I doubt that. Pharmacies rarely fuck up that hardcore.

You need a new doctor who isn't going to invade your privacy in order to treat a legitimate medical condition.

people never said that to me..

it seems like more of an impossibility than an inconvenience - you have 240 little tablets of valium and then 120 tablets of whatever, and 270 tablets of another sort...you spill the lot out onto the counter and count along, out loud with the dispensing pharmacist while there is a line of 20 people standing behind you annoyed, waiting to get home...

they will assassinate you before you count to 30 if they catch wind of what's going on, especially the ones standing all the way in the back...


my advice - get meds from one pharmacy where you know the staff and the staff is consistent and the pharmacy belongs to a giant franchise, not some mom and pop crap pharmacy where they count by hand and eye and steal valium for their girlfriends or whatever the hell is going on in your pharmacy where they shortchanged you 1/3rd of what you were designated to receive.

No more counting on people counting. Machines count now...they pour out of a giant bucket into a funnel-shaped machine and the machine counts tablets for you. this saves us all time and no one is held liable if an error occurs. the machine will be changed, that's all. sometimes corporations are a good thing.

There's never a line where I go, that way I get to count my pills before I'm on my way.

I'm never paranoid about it being short, I just always like to be on the look out for extra pills =D

Furthermore, you can request for brand name Valium, and get them in pre-sealed bottles which are all pre-weighed (meaning there's no way in hell you're shorted) (also, that is, if Valium comes in such a container...I don't know because I've never been prescribed to Valium but I've seen pre-sealed containers en masse for different rx's before, especially schedule V and schedule IV.)

someone once worked behind the counter of a pharmacy and noted that senior citizens and non-english speaking persons would get dispensed generics when it said DAW on the script, and ...well, obviously charged for the price of the brand-name formulation.

this was one pharmacy....i doubt it was the only one in the world.

that's why one should stick to the franchise mega pharmacies...they slit throats if you fall out of line.
 
Yeah, I been shorted on a single pill out of a 20 day script for tramadol and called and was told they normally would not replace any pills because it is on you since you could be lying but they gave me one anyway because I was a frequent customer at this pharmacy and they knew me very well..
Also, yea.. ur pills were stolen by a pharmacy tech or pharmacist my friend.. sorry to tell ya.. =[
I wish you the best of luck gettin' everything sorted out but I would plan on possibly having to take less than normal just to ensure you do not go into w/d

Oh and btw, if i were u, id call the doctor and let him know what is going on if they decline the request that you be compensated for the missing pills.. it looks better on your part rather than waiting on the doc to call ya kno??
 
I didn't read the other replies, but I was once short one pill, but I had counted it as I was leaving (I was only getting 10 kpins) and turned back to the pharmacy before I was even 50 ft away.

They still kinda hassled me.

I'm going to guess they will not do anything about it.

yes, well, you have that luxury apparently. i also count my pills..usually there's an extra one or two but for one to be missing is just unfathomable. where i go everyone stands on line with ten prescriptions in their hands, theres ten pharmacists with dozens of technicians behind the tall counter scurrying in the back with medicine bottles...people keep sighing these awful sighs of fatigue as they wait on line and then when there's a problem at the counter, everyone in the queue starts glaring at you so hard they physically push you back into the walls with their wrath and their restlessness. of course i try to go after midnight when its sparse there, but don't always have that option.

as for brandname stuff, yea...when it has that astra zeneca logo or whatever, you know you're not getting shortchanged...sealed and labeled and ready to go. but most insurance pays for generics, and most meds come in generic these days despite pathetic attempts from the big pharm corps to reinvent the wheel by replacing one salt with another and redesigning a new ergonomic shape that's 'easier to swallow' etc.

i'm also prescribed Lortab, and had to sign a narcotics contract when they first started prescribing to me.

they do this, so that if they suspect you are doing something wrong, they can check up on you. it's also to cover their asses with the way the DEA comes down on doctors these days.

normally, i really don't mind that they can check up on me, but because of this mishap at the pharmacy, i may not get my pills, and who are they gonna believe? the "respectable" pharmacy or me?
 
One time the pharmacist at a walmart gave me 10 percocet 10's instead of 30. I got home and looked into the bottle and just cried. I knew they'd never believe me and I was going to have surgery the next day. My mom called up there and talked to the pharmacist and he said he remembered filling it and admitted to making a mistake. Mom went back up there and they gave me the missing 20 pills and a coupon for the store for their error. I surely didn't expect that... After that experience, I pour out my Suboxone in front of the pharmacy and make sure there's 60 pills in there because when you are paying $8 a pill out of pocket, you'd better be getting all your shit.
