Diphenoxylate(Lomotil,Lonox) WOW must read

I decided to investigate diphenoxylate seeing as its really cheap and OTC, and wow I am impressed.

Bad news is it really has zero recreational potential as far as a euphoric high, the good news is it has amazing pontential as a maintenance drug or for withdrawal or holding you for a few days.

Background: I have been taking 12-24mgs of morphine daily for months, not a giant habit but I do feel lack of energy and low mental state if I miss a dose.

Yesterday I acquired 10 lomotil tablets and dosed them all over the course of several hours, I felt no effect from the atropine at all if anyone is curious.
The diphenoxylate which totaled 25mg came on very slowly and several hours later the closest thing I can compare it to is 0.5mg of sublingual buprenorphine(suboxone,subutex) it felt much like bupe with lots of energy but no warmth. At this point I have skipped two usual morphine doses and feel fine with no desire to dose.

total cost to me (no price discussion except in the price thread - leftwing) USD =D

I have read that you can extract diphenoxylate from the atropine with a reverse cold water extraction, that is do a CWE as normal on lomotil except discard the water and consume the insoluble matter. So for those with larger habits or tolerances this might be an option.

Lomotil is either OTC or trivially easy to get on prescription depending on your country, its also dirt cheap and there is no stigma attached to it like suboxone.
It definitely deserves the name poor man's sub.

If you have a small habit lomotil could easily maintain you or hold you over, just wanted to get this info out there.

And again at 10 pills and 0.25mg of atropine I got no effects from it at all, but as always everyone is different and some might be more sensitive.

Like I said the drug has no abuse stigma attached to it, so the next time someone sees their doctor they could mention that they have occasional diarrhea and OTC immodium doesn't work but their friend/relative gave them some lomotil and it did the trick. I can't imagine they would not walk out with a prescription, there is literally zero stigma attached to lomotil. They could save the lomotil for a rainy day.

In any case its cheap compared to anything else.
 
loperamide is similar and doesn't require a prescription. BTW the only reason these drugs
don't get you high is because they can't cross the blood-brain barrier.

They don't make morphine pills that small, so I'm curious how you take it.



I don't see any case where getting a script for this (in the US) would be worth the hassle in any way. Maybe if you had a minuscule tolerance you could use a month's worth of this to avoid 1 day of WDs (and you'd still have to watch out for the atropine), but I can think of 5-10 better (easy/legal) ways to avoid the WD fairy off the top of my head.

Loperamide does not cross the blood brain barrier, diphenoxylate does cross the BBB. Thats why its not OTC in all countries.

Paregoric, 30-60ml daily. 30ml contains 12mg morphine among all the other opium alkaloids.

Well in the US there is the advantage of open sale of poppy pods and of course street drugs. But in some countries there are much stricter conditions, but lomotil may have been overlooked.

I'm glad I know about it, just wanted to let everyone else know as the knowledge could come in handy.

Well I know in the US doctors seem reticent to even give out codeine in combination products like tylenol#3, while lomotil is passed out freely.
I know someone in the US who had to sign a narcotics contract and is given constant hell by her doctors for a darvocet script!

I can get better stuff then lomotil OTC, but I was still surprised something so ignored felt for all the world like 0.5mg of bupe. I would have thought it would be more common knowledge among users.

point is, a lot of people can't afford to go see a doctor, let alone pay for a prescription.

Everything costs money, whether their drug of choice or poppy pods or whatever.
All I offered was the info that there is a cheap little controlled drug out there that can offer relief. I'm sorry if you don't have a dollar to your name or live in the arctic or a million other possibilities.

If you have a physician who you have seen in the past they would probably have no issue with calling in a script for lomotil for you without paying for an office visit, hell a nurse practitioner can write scripts for schedule five meds.

I'm sure lomotil is also easy to find and cheap from overseas pharmacies, or take a trip to Mexico where I have been told its OTC.

All I offered was the info it works, you seem to be upset it doesn't fall from the heavens.
 
When I was in NZ, I would use "Diastop" (cwe'd) to get rid of withdrawal - its the same thing as lomotil. OTC and cheap as well.

Never got a high, but 3-4 packets would get me a good night sleep.
 
That's good to know, garuda. I don't know why people are trying to argue with him - perhaps this could have been better off in Trip Reports, but still..

It's good information to have, and next time I see my doctor, I may try to get a hold of some just for the hell of it. Thanks for sharing.
 
Lomotil is not worth it for those of us who live in the states. Getting a prescription from a doc and then the price to fill just for diphenoxolate is a waste of time.
 
I'm in NZ and have quite a few diastop (as they call it here) up my sleeve so gonna give CWE a try and will post later. I know when I was taking it for withdrawals 10 days ago at the normal dose, there was nothing great about it except for the control of bowel movements. I was very surprised to find out today that these medications in general are opiate-class drugs. Apparently diphenoxylate is meant to cross the bbb unlike imodium.........
