What are you reading now? vers. "So I don't end up being a fucking waffle waitress"

Still reading Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

The book is really starting to shine near the last 1/4. It's amazing how boring the lives of the posh and rich can be until it all starts to fall apart for them.

Just read Breaking Open the Head by Daniel Pinchbeck. Sort of an autobiography/brief history on western psychedelic culture and traditional psychedelic shamanism. Worth a read if you're into the topic, but its nothing to really rave about. The most interesting aspects were descriptions of his iboga experience and its effects on his life afterwards. Also a few chapters on Burning Man which increased my desire to make the pilgrimage there one day.

After reading 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by the same guy, I came to the conclusion the guys an absolute twat and has no ideas of his own.

Kingdom of Fear by Hunter S. Thompson. Now a $9.99 Penguin classic!

I really enjoyed that book I read it last year, gives a good insight into his life and what a life he lived... I wish he was still around I really enjoyed his style of writing except for when he wrote about politics that just seemed to bore me a little to much.

I am currently reading 3 text books at the moment which are; Fundamentals of International Business, Management Concepts and Introduction to International Relations <----- Boring hahaha. I am really enjoying the Fundamentals to International Business though but the others I just can't seem to get into!

Finished reading Anna Karenin by Tolstoy yesterday and have started reading The Virgin Suicides by Jefferey Eugenides and it's every bit as awesome as I've been led to believe. I've been meaning to buy it for a while but thanks UAN for saving me the hassle!

Woo another terry pratchett fan!
I just finished reading Halo (as in the game). I have no interest in games but I saw it on my boyfriends floor and pinches it to try and get a better understanding on why he likes the game. Turned out he hadn't even read it, and had no idea how he came to possess it.
It was an ok read, although it has to be the first book I've read that didn't have a love story or a scandal of some kind.

The Great Unravelling.... by Paul Krugman.. all about Crony Capitalism :)

I just finished reading The Boat by Nam Le....it's a collection of short stories, and they're all unconnected from one another, but all really deeply moving. I fully nearly cried when I read the last one, it's about boat people....it would make an awesome movie if we didn't live in a fucking pig-backward racist shit of a country. :p

But yeah anyway; awesome book, I highly encourage it. He won the Dylan Thomas award (thanks UAN!).

I have research time for finding hot men, not so much for literary awards.... ;)

^ I googled it because I was interested - it wasn't an Australian award, it was the Dylan Thomas Prize which is cool because I wish I was Dylan Thomas. I'm going to check it out!

^^Chris has The Boat sitting on his bedside table. He is almost done so you can borrow it.

Seriously, this is getting freaky. Everything. Single. Tiny. Thing. is coming up trumps for me at the moment. I'm guessing something bad is going to happen soon, like channel 10 cancelling Neighbours.

Does this have a section/chapter in which the protagonist goes to Canada? THink I've read a bit of it and really enjoyed it..

"The Hour I First Believed" by Wally Lamb

Incredible. Columbine and war are the basis for drawing on chaos theories- that significant experiences in life, can cause even more significant consequences.

A tough read at 735 odd pages, but absolutely compelling once you get through the graphic Columbine story.

I'm reading / listening to another audio-book. The addiction has really taken hold. %)

This is currently on my iPod:

I'm enjoying it so far, but I've only really just started it. Michael Crichton has a really solid prose that I've enjoyed in the past, and the plots in his book are always intricate and well thought out. Here's hoping this stays true to form.

Awesome book!! And Nam Le is a genuinely nice bloke.

Other recent highlights include Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz, The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas, The Crossroads by Niccolo Ammaniti, Little Brother by Cory Doctorow and Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff.
