What are you reading now? vers. "So I don't end up being a fucking waffle waitress"

I love Pratchett! I give family and friends copies of his books for presents and am slowly building my own army of Pratchett lovers.

I'm currently reading The Trials of Isabella Mary Kelly by Maurie Garland. Surprisingly gripping given its a bio of a woman in Australias pioneering days and all anyone seems to do is file legal complaints against their neighbours

Currently reading 'The Brothers Karamazov' by Dostoyevsky. It's very long. I'm 250 pages in and the story hasn't really started yet. Hopefully it gets better and lives up to its hype.

Akhenaton - Cryptonomicon rocks

eK - in the spirit of Bill Hicks, I think zoo is still waffle waitress material (or maybe waiter - or waitron if you are non-gender-specifically inclined)

I'm actually scared to say what I am reading atm - "A Foucault Primer: discourse, power and the subject" - may as well just come right out and admit it; I am a wanker ;)

I really enjoyed it. Watching Dostoyevsky's characters interact is like watching multiple train wrecks in a day.

I'm reading Sun Tzu's Art of War again

This time i'm approaching it like poetry, it kind of works

Love in the Time of Cholera-Garcia Marquez

Tom Robbins-Still Life with Woodpecker

A WW1 history book for uni.

Naked Lunch by Burroughs. Sporadically though, luckily its a novel you can pick up and pretty much open to a random page and read it just for its fucking twisted, funny and darkly satirical prose.

I've been reading some more comics from Alan Moore of Watchmen fame. "From Hell" which the Johnny Depp/ Jack the Ripper movie was based on, and Prometha, which is about the superhero of imagination. I really like them. Prometha reminds me a little of Sandman by Neil Gaimen. Definitely not childish.

While in Cairns I was in a newsagent and picked up a discounted copy of Derryn Hinch's "The Ultimate Guide to Winning Scrabble" for only $6.95. It's sexy stuff.

From Hell is one of my favourite graphic novels. I've read it about 5 times now. I found didn't quite convey the darkness of it all, plus it makes me want to drink absinthe

I just finished reading Overworld: The Life and Times of A Reluctant Spy by Larry J. Kolb
One of the more interesting books I've read in some time.
Basically, the book is what the title says.
Kolb has certainly lived an amazing life. Check out his website, http://www.larryjkolb.com/author.html

Now I'm reading Greenpeace: How a Group of Ecologists, Journalists, and Visionaries Changed the World by Rex Weyler.
Certainly an insight into how Greenpeace was founded. Only just started it, but enjoying it so far.

Finished the original script for the movie 8MM by Andrew James Walker.

Got a bit Hollywood-ish towards the end, unlike his script for Se7en, but if it was filmed properly it would have been one of the most disturbing movies to come out of the USA in decades.

Have just started on stranger in a strange land by robert heinlein, i think im going to like this.

Got really excited the other day when i found a book of petry by bob kaufman, known as the jazz poet of the streets during the beat generation. so flicking through that at the moment as well.

That's on my to read list. Starship Troopers was hilarious and by that I mean Heinlein's views on society are stupidly laughable. War is good!

I just downloaded this Free Audiobook from Audible.com. I had to put in my credit card details and agree to going onto a plan where they debit you the princely sum of $14.95US for one book per month, but you are able to cancel at any time.

Take a look at their Great First Listens section for a variety of awesome books to choose from.

I'm one very happy commuter. Viva la iPod! :D

*This freebie was made possible through a promotion from Savage Love - my most favouritest podcast in the history of podcasts.

Although I would prefer a PAYG system on this I might look into considering I still have abour 94gig spare on my ipod

my only gripe is you cant really speed listen listen on FFWD the same you can speed read a book.

^I like that aspect of audiobooks. It means I can't speed over and miss bits and pieces so I get a fuller understanding. Also, the narration is fantsatic - on this one especially. Different accents and inflections make every sentence come alive. :)

reading a whole lot more than usual lately.
have 7 books on the go at the moment.

just started a million little pieces by james frey, i recommend it because i cant put it down yet.

also started on introducing NLP by joseph o'connor & john seymour. always been interested in the subject matter of neuro linguistic programming, more an deducational pick than anything but i like it.
