Research Chemical Safety

In normal dosages tryptamines and the less amphetamine-esque phenethylamines don't produce the kinds of problems associated with MDMA and amphetamines. Also, much of the damage to the brain from any drug is caused more by repeated exposure than acute drug effects (except in overdoses, obviously). So unless you're tripping on DOx compounds semi-daily, I wouldn't expect the type of blood flow reduction and damage to dopaminergic circuitry that is common in frequent users of amphetamines.

Maybe not, but I would bet the farm that, say, DOB is more toxic than MDMA, methamphetamine, or amphetamine. For example, if you eat 100 mg DOB, then you can pretty much kiss your ass goodbye. Of course, that is just one measure of toxicity.

What kinds of problems are associated with occasional amphetamine, or especially, MDMA usage?

Outside of its vasoconstrictive effect, DOB is acutely non-toxic. There is no harm at whatever recreational dose is appropriate for your cardiovascular system.

the same is probably true of 100mg LSD, but that has been demonstrated to be physiologically safe. DOB and MDMA have a vastly different effective dose, you cant compare them mg to mg. that said, i also have some concerns about DOB, RZ has indicated that it has a dangerously high affinity for 5HT2B receptors, also DOM (and most likely all DOx) become 5HT/DA releasers at high doses and will begin to exert MDMA type toxicity. at those same doses i would be a lot more worried about the vasoconstriction and more worried still about loosing my fucking mind.

there are almost no problems i'm aware of that arise from infrequent usage of MDMA or amphetamines. I've read one recent study that found some short-term memory loss among occasional MDMA users as compared to those who completely abstain. However, it would probably be difficult to differentiate the effects caused by the MDMA from those caused by other drugs that recreational MDMA users also frequently take, i.e. cannabis.

The problem with other amphetamines is that few people take them occasionally... I don't know about infrequent usage, but long term usage causes decreased blood flow to some areas of the brain, and potentially irreversible damage to the reinforcement/reward circuits and pleasure centers.

I tend to think that the danger of MDMA's toxicity is real indeed, but massively overblown. IME, I haven't felt the typical 'serotonin drain' that so many people mention, and the only real negative psychological effects I have ever experienced from it were a result of excessive usage, which was a lot like what happens from excess amphetamine abuse.

To bring the thread back on topic, although I have no solid experimental data to prove it, i have a hunch that some of the 2-cs could have some kind of toxic properties, because many of them seem to provoke a strong physiological response.

^ agreed. There is a lot of propoganda and misinfo out there. Some people still cite that "Ecstasy burns holes in your brain" study that was debunked a few years ago.
