Please do not post exact locations to opium dens in here. We have decided to re open this thread to help Leet out and i would hate to see me shut it down again because posters were being a bit careless about posting location and what not. As for the question, you may post a country, tell if it was urban and rural etc, but do not post the address and all that jazz. Post wisely or dont post at all ;) -Thizzer

i would be grateful if anyone with experience of opium dens would share their knowledge. its for a project i'm doing. i'll share details when complete %)

things like, the location - ie country, rural, urban locale? how did you find it? was the place notorious or hard to find? the layout, floorplan etc, and decor? was there a doorman? i believe people stay in them for days, how did you negotiate your deal? was there a pipe san? what about refreshments? toilets?[lol] who cleaned up and emptied ashtrays? did you have a choice of pipes? were the pipes on display? different grades of opium? what stopped the place from being raided either by random thugs or polis? have you any pictures?

please feel free to answer any or none of the above, i would be grateful for whatever information really as long as you dont implicate yourself or others.

well opium dens aren't around that much anymore, if all in the U.S. they are prolly still around in china or southeast asia but i have never heard of or been in an opium den and most likely never will.

yes , i dont mean like crack houses or shooting gallerys, i'm talking about proper established dens.

i imagine they will be mostly in asia but hey who knows?

i'd love to go. i'd accidently for 3 days i bet haha.
 
Opium dens are very rare in the West these days for a variety of factors, mainly the cost of operating. Opium dens prevail in places of high population density, lack of a far reaching advanced policing and investigation system (this pertains particularily to smuggling and importing of Opium). They are usually only now in areas close to the growing source, as it's really ineffcient to transport unrefined Opium anywhere.

When i was in Vietnam a couple years back I spent a lot of time looking for opium but most people said its hard to get but heroin is readily available and i did stumble into a good ol fashion shootin gallery in Hanoi. Damn fine dope too damn fine...

Yeah. Opium's crazy expensive where I live, and it's extremely hard to find. Quite a few people I know have smoked it, and say it's absolutely amazing. I wish I could find it. Dope's awesome and all, but I'd probably rather have access to opium.
 
When I lived in Seattle I remember hearing that there were a few opium dens in the international district. I never really bothered to look because I was too busy with my dope habit, but I remember hearing about them and I guess Seattle used to have a huge opium problem in the early 1900's because of all of the asian immigration. I'd be curious to see how they are operated. Once when I was in high school I bought "opium" from this guy in school, but I later discovered that it was actually tar heroin (which I had never even heard of back then). That was the first time I did heroin. Oops.
