I've had this movie for years and watched it again last night. God, I love this movie! Any expectations you may have of Reese Witherspoon are forcefully thrown out of a plate-glass window.

Loosely based on Little Red Riding Hood, Reese stars as Vanessa Lutz, a teen who has a prostitute for a mother and a stepfather who can't keep his hands to himself. The movie really picks up when Vanessa runs away and meets a piece of shit known as Bob Wolverton, played brilliantly by Keifer Sutherland.

The movie is powerfully dialogue-driven. Almost every line spoken is begged to be quoted and funny as hell. Here are a few of my favorites:

Vanessa: "Well look who got beaten with the ugly stick. Bob, is that you? My God, I can't believe such an itty bitty gun could make such a big mess out of someone! You are so ugly Bob! Oh and hey I heard you have one of those poop bags where the shit comes out the side, you're just a big old shitbag aren't you Bob! I hope you think of me every time you shit in that thing motherfucker!"

[Imitating Bob]
Vanessa: My dick may not function, but I have not lost my smile!

[When told to get in the trunk after propositioning Vanessa for a blowjob]
Woody Wilson: I am claustrophobic.
Vanessa: Well I get claustrophobic suckin' strange dick, now get in there!

Vanessa: You shoulda let me out of the car when I asked you to, Bob. You see what happens when ya got bad manners?

This movie is so wild and unflinching. One minute you're laughing your ass off the next you're cringing in disgust. Freeway deserves a lot more recognition than it got.

4/5 easily.

One of my all-time favourites, FB. And now I wanna watch it again. :D

I <3 many things about this film. The opening credits are a favourite of mine, along with Amanda Plummer and Brittany Murphy's minuscule yet brilliant performances in it. Shit, even Brooke Shield's is great in it. :D

I too give it 4/5

"Fuck all y'all!". =D

First time I saw this was in 1997, on a heavy dose of both LSD and DXM. 8(

When Reese and Kiefer were having the discussion about "feeling like a human urinal..." i was like, "what the fuck? This movie cannot possibly actually exist. I must be asleep, dreaming I'm watching a movie."

Been one of my favorites ever since.

P.S. Reese Witherspoon is perhaps the most convincing argument I can imagine that there may actually be a god. That woman is so insanely beautiful, I almost can't stand it. <3 <3

Great film the humour is amazing, the ending had me laughing for a good while.

pretty twisted flick. i didn't remember it until reminded of the "human urinal" line. Definitely going to get this one on the DVD shelf. One of Stone's best, if not the best. 4/5. He's sort of like the Stephen King of Hollywood. I don't really mean that as a compliment as much as a slight jab.

Yeah I too really like the 'Freeway' films. Particularly the first one, but Cyclona was wonderfully twisted in the horribly-titled pseudo-sequel. One of the most deranged characters of all time as far as I'm concerned.

One of Stone's best, if not the best. 4/5. He's sort of like the Stephen King of Hollywood.

Who's this Stone person you speak of?

ahhh, that must be why I forgot about it... not even directed by stone, just like all of those ambiguous "tarantino-related" flicks. I knew there was something...

Oliver Stone... you know, the way good movies that don't have backing in Hollywood got seen for a while was by slapping "Oliver Stone presents" or "Quentin Tarantino presents" right above the title. I scanned the image, saw oliver stone on the cover, and then read someone's post about the "human urinal" line in the film. Then I remembered that I had seen the movie before, and that it wouldn't have surprised me if Oliver Stone directed it since I remembered thinking it was cool when I was in middle school.

I seriously love this movie. I need to get the dvd again I'm not sure what happened to my previous copy. The sequel, while not nearly as good, was definitely way, WAY more disturbing to me. It was loosely based off of Hansel and Gretel I believe, & Natasha Lyonne can do very little wrong in my eyes(besides almost going and fucking croaking but that's a rant for another time). It took me awhile to realize the old woman was actually Vincent Gallo, but I digress. The original Freeway is one of the few movies I loved as a teenager, and still love just as much to this day.

So funny this is brought up so recently.

I never even heard of it, though I love Reese Witherspoon. Another girl in my rehab told me about it and I got it off netflix. I tried to watch it but got distracted early on.

Maybe this will be what I watch tonight.

It's pretty good. 3 stars good. Reese is really sexy in this movie and it's a shame she doesn't take on more edgy roles like she did in this. Oh well, most of her movies are pretty successful and I am sure she is making great change, so I'm sure she's not complaining.

I have to admit that I came about this movie during my "Oh my god I love Cruel Intentions" period and decided to watch everything Reese had made (easy, considering I managed a video shop at the time). I really liked thi; not what I expected. I think she's a talented actress, perhaps more so when she was unknown because she could make films in a range of genres and not have the spotlight placed on her performance as much were she to make this type of movie nowadays.

Ace movie.

i checked out this film because of this thread :) i was not dissapointed. reese witherspoon was great. this was her breakthrough role then? a role like that could have went either way really lol. what ever happened to bokime woodbine? he used to play a great thug back in the day. remember caught up, and jason's lyric?

4/5
