The Travel Thread - Second Destination

I was bursting for a piss the whole time actually!

I was tempted to steal a bit of coral I found on the beach but didn't in the end.

Coral looks shit sat on the fireplace next to the mini eiffel tower and the great wall of China snowstorm. :)

You can get them at Heathrow. Best place for gifts.

You ever bring back much tatt from your travels? I've got a quality Maori carving and some jade carvings from Sowetto, but that's about it.

Fridge Magnets, got one for every place I've been. Tacky indeed but I like! :)

Fuckin useless for me. I have a fitted fridge thingy, so they would just fall on the floor.

I did start collecting footy shirts from national teams, but gave up after a while. Still got them all hanging up and never worn in my kiddies wardrobe. My missus hates them. :)

i keep all tickets, receipts and i try and by some stuff from everywhere i go

i have got a perspex frame on my wall with loads of tickets behind it.. plane tickets, concert tickets, polariod photos etc etc, and then have boxes full of receipts etc from places i have been around the world

maybe in 5 years ill go thru it and realise that at such and such a time i was in such and such a place eating some shite food. etc.

I wish I'd kept all my tickets and reciepts and stuff that's pretty cool. :)

I did at one point keep my gig tickets and fliers but lost loads of them and no idea where they are now. Real shame! :(

There's nothing far fetched about my list and you can see Nemo. We happened to go on a glass bottom boat trip after the snorkelling with a guide who showed us 'nemo'.

My list isn't a definitive one either, simply a small selection on what was there.

The worst thing about the GBR is that it's 3hrs away and the day I went was choppy as fuck which meant sea sickness for almost all involved. Yuk!

I only meant the Nemo bit. I'm on weak ground because I haven't even seen the bloody film but I did what you did and then went to the lecture by the marine biologist. She knew her shit and assured us that Nemo wasn't there. Something to do with clown fish all being female??

Sea was calm as calm can be when I went. But I don't get sea-sick anyway.

I was shown what looked very much like nemo and told by the guide that it was 'Nemo'. Who knows but I'm still claiming I saw Nemo whether I did or not. ;)

How do they reproduce if they're all female?

Some fish are transexual, like Panga (what you now get in cheap chippies instead of cod) and get round it that way.

.

Not sure what this has to do with Nemo but this is what I was trying to be on about Squid.

A little known but fascinating ability of the Clown fish is its ability to switch sex. This Clown Fish Fact makes this fish even more of a rarity. On the top of the hierarchy is the reproducing female followed by the mating male. Below them are a bunch of non-mating males. But, if the female dies, the whole hierarchy gets disrupted. The predominant male then morphs into a female and chooses a partner from the various non-mating males.

SHM are you tired of travelling yet? Longing to be back home in a nice quiet house with a comfy bed or still enjoying the travellers life style?

I'm in Da Lat Vietnam and have gone from a sunny beach to pissy mountain rain. I still have Cambodia and Angkor Wat to go (and Saigon - aaarrgghhhh) so am looking forward to the Wat but nothing else really. I am back in 2 weeks and yes, thats an intersting point you pose - I am quite looking forward to my own bed, but I don't know whether this is just because I know its so close now. If I had another 6 months to go through the middle east or somewhere I'd probably have a different perspective.

Thanks for asking.

Angkor Wat is unbelievable. As is Angkor Thom. Absolutely stunning. I hope you enjoy as much as I did. :)

Ho Chi Minh City is OK, it's very busy and noisy but it's not too bad for a few days. We actually spent the little amount of time we had there going on trips outwith the city for a boat trip on the Mekong Delta and to the Cu Chi tunnels which I both really enjoyed.

Can't beleive your back in 2 weeks, it seems like only yesterday since you left. Been enjoying reading your blog too. What a trip! *jealous*

In Vinh now, what a shit hole.

"The reconstruction of Vinh borrowed heavily on Soviet and East German ideas about town planning — the city is noted for its wide streets and its rows of concrete apartment blocks."

From wiki.

Was on the road for six hours with two break downs and needed to eat and sleep.. bloody dangerous with no street lights and because my light doesn't dim, the trucks don't dim theirs to me.

Enjoying yourself though?

I'll need to catch up with your blog. May go do it now actually.

Yeh having the best time of my life :D

This is the proper way to travel. Despite what some may say about travel being wasted on the young.

Stayed with a load of locals last night, about 6 teachers sharing this big house, because one flagged me down and invited me to coffee.

SHM, what have you found to be the best way for uploading images quickly?

All of mine are 3gb each and takes forever. Someone told me a way to make 'em smaller but it isn't working: once the images are in a folder on the computer, select all and click the email images button which will launch outlook express and make the images smaller. But I can't get outlook express to send those images using hotmail and I can't find where these compressed images are now.
Anyone know a quick way to make images smaller without downloading anything?

And fucking travelpod.. grrr.
Just spent 30 mins uploading 5 images all with the title 'grand palace' then at the end it says error some have the same name and I had to re-upload with 1, 2, 3 etc added.. why it wouldn't let me edit afterwards beats me.

How cool. :)

Planning my Oz trip tonight as there's nothing else happening, the miserable weather outside has put me off even venturing out to the pub. :\

Will have about £4k saved up by end of August all going to plan and my company don't go under. My dads offered to pay half my flight in exchange for being able to come out and visit me for 4 weeks or so when he's off on holiday (September then again at Xmas I think) and reckon I can convince my mum to pay the other half as a birthday / xmas present. So with £4k it's all spending money and I think I could probably make it stretch about 4 months without working, if I do a bit of WOOFING and couchsurfing along the way probably longer. If I get an actual real job (god forbid working whilst on holiday!) then can stay for the year maybe.

Just trying to plan round the weather now and whether I can fit both coasts in or just concentrate on one. Decisions decisions.
