Eden Lake

rtuk_news_eden_lake.jpg

this is a very grim brit horror/thriller which plays out like a daily mail article gone wrong. plays on current fears of feral youths and "chav" culture to make a film which leaves you feeling dirty and shocked. one of those, "it can't get any worse than this" ... "oh, no, i guess it can" kind of films.

I wasn't sure about Eden Lake, it was OK but at the same time a bit gash! The lead actress is a bit of a hottie though!

"Fix"

The Blurb ....

FIX takes you from Beverly Hills to Watts, and places in between, in one day, as documentary filmmakers Bella (Wilde) and Milo (Ruspoli) race to get Milo's brother Leo (Shawn Andrews) from jail to rehab before 8pm, or Leo goes to prison for three years. Inspired by true events, we follow the trio as they document their trip from a suburban police station in Calabasas through mansions in Beverly Hills, East LA chop-shops, rural wastelands, and housing projects in Watts as they attempt to raise the $5,000 required to get Leo into the rehab clinic. Along the way the audience meets dozens of colorful characters, each with their own anomalous perspective on Leo's larger than life personality and style, and each with their own excuse for why they cannot help out. In the end, it may take a drug deal to get the necessary funds for rehab

I don't think this one has been mentioned yet, and I only just remembered I need to get myself a copy just now.

I don't usually like Nicolas Cage, but I enjoyed this film a lot. I <3 the way his character thinks in it. It's pure brilliance. :)

La Haine. Not sure if anyone's mentioned it already, but it gave me a completely different view on Paris, my favourite city out of the shockingly few i've been to.

^Right on! :D

I <3 Merly Streep. Though Mama Mia can fuck right off. A complete pile of horse shite. Nicholas Cage is indeed a fanny, but not here. Give it a go, Spadey. You might surprise yourself. :)

Meryl Streep? Bleurgh! Nicolas Cage? Like him more than I may admit to. Charlie Kaufman? Goodity good goodness flows from his pen. Upshot of all that being I might track that one down, missus :)

I've recommended this before, but this is just acting as a reminder (mostly for Shammy, and possibly Spadey). :)

The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things

The reviews are bad, but I don't care, I <3 it. Asia Argento is so bad she's good. She's like an evil character in a fairy tale. Absolutely terrifying.

I absolutely <3 her. Mostly for her zest for life because she's such a passionate person who lives her life to the full. She acts, she sings, she DJ's, she directs, she models, she paints, she's a photographer. Basically, she fookin' ROCKS!. <3

Tracked this one down and watched it yesterday. Top choice, TG. Pretty bleak stuff - you do know how to make me :) - but kinda hypnotic. Really enjoyed it but was a lil mashed so will have to watch it again sometime to get a better feel for it :)

Ah, so glad you enjoyed it. It is indeed very bleak, but it does have that twisted fairy tale-esque feel to it which appeals to me in a big way. Again, I can't say enough about Argento's performance in it. There's something which seems so bad and shit about it, yet she's absolutely terrifying at the same time. Brilliant.

And yes, you will definitely like Adaptation too. :)

Tribal Girl I believe you were interested in seeing Revolutionary Road? Just back from seeing it myself, it's decent enough. Wouldn't go as far to thoroughly recommend it but if your at a loss and fancy seeing a film then there are worse ways to spend a couple hours.

+1 Adaptation, its a great film.

Watched Factotum yesterday, didn't even know a film had been made. A friend recommended the book to me ages ago but I never got round to reading it. I'm sure its better than the film was though. Only Bukowsky book I've read is Post Office.

Nup, I haven't read any of his books. I do try to read, but I have such a short attention span it's untrue. All the books I read have to have super short chapters otherwise I never get through them.

Ah well, i'll probably read the book at some point, haven't read anything in a while. I was hoping the movie would make a better impression... :\

motivation slowly disappearing... :D

Cheers, Sham.

Whore, I was the same with Choke. I actually went to see the film before I finished the book, just to motivate myself to get into it more. Alas I didn't really like the film either. I mean, it was OK. But I cannot stomach Sam Rockwell. He's too much of a tosser type.
