I found The Prince a bit of a slog, but worthy of reading.

I think you'd like Bank's other stuff Shambles - the Wasp Factory is the classic and one lots of folks do at school. The Bridge, Walking on Glass and Complicity are my favourites.

I'm quite getting into the Culture and agree with MrM it's sounds like the way to be! It;s one of those books that explodes in your mind, leading to all strange manners of shot-off thoughts. Love it.

Am very fond of SF - any sugggestions would be greatly appreciated, though not so into the fantasy dungeons n' dragons type of stuff

Rather fond of a bit of sci-fi myself, Kate. Will try to think up some good recommendations. I like a lot of the classic sci-fi (Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and the like) but also the stranger types (Ray Bradbury, Michael Moorcock and so forth). Of the more modern ones, William Gibson and Michael Marshal Smith are two that leap to mind. Will let you know if any others make the leap into mind :).

Is it a good book? I've been thinking about buying it myself.

Yeah, worth a read, the 16.99 price tag in certain places is a little steep but it stays factual, a lot of the Bestwood lot have been saying "how the fuck does he dare write about it, he's only been here x amount of years"etc... but the fact is, he doesn't really go into personal opinion and stays pretty factual. He does hint at certain things at times (that were falsely portrayed in the media/found in a court of law) but people that are not "in the know" may miss these, and they don't really matter anyway.

I'd give it a 7.5/10.

The Saga of Hawkwind - Carol Clerk

The definitive Hawkwind story, condensed to 500 pages & complete with a fair few pictures (some of which feature the ultimate exotic dancer - Miss Stacia ;) ). Reading about their excesses makes up for not indulging in any drugs myself at the moment!

A big thank you to the Fishy one for a most excellent xmas pressie

reading american psycho and charlie brooker - screen burn at the moment.

american psycho is ridiculously tiring to read. thought i'd nearly finished it and i'm only on like page 150 now i check. good book though, enjoying it. might try get a bit more read tonight.

just bought joseph heller - something happened, and closing time so they'll be next.

I'm reading 'A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian' by Marina Lewycka.

It's not what you might be thinking from the title. It's hilarious and I'd recommend it!

It's the endless lists of who's wearing what and so forth that make it hard going sometimes, I found Snolls. Great book but my good golly gosh there's some detailed descriptions of anything and everything with a brand name in there :D

PS: Watch out for rat infestations :|

The Glass Bead Game by Hermann Hesse . a classic appatrently, got it for christmas. I like it so far. anyone read it?

I <3 Herman Hesse :D

But that is the one that I've never read but always wanted to. It's the one he won the Nobel Prize for so I presume it has some kind of merit :)

I've enjoyed every other book of his I've read and look forward to reading that one sometime. I'd be gobsmacked if it were anything less than brilliance cos all his others are - enjoy :)

I'm reading...

It's somewhat alarming in places, but I like that aspect. There's a real honesty to it which appeals to me in a big way. The kind of honesty that you're almost afraid to admit as truth.

DMT The Spirit Molecule- Dr. Rick Strassman

My mum bought me this for xmas, found it an intresting read but found Straussman's clinical approach to be slightly askew.

Also wondered whether a qualified physician who "wanted to scare" patients should really be in charge lol

But I <3 psychedlics so totally <3 reading about em too! Very interesting!
