The Ultimate Legal Sociabilizers?

Alright then, forget the meds. Then this way I know I have no chance of recovery. The risk of addiction outweighs the benefit of actually experiencing a life worth living, eh? I guess sitting at home doing nothing 24/7 and living a completely unfulfilling life is the best choice by your logic.

if your problems are so bad that you are doomed to live a life sitting at home doing nothing 24/7, i doubt drugs are going to fix them. i understand your logic "well this way of living isn't working, so i might as well try drugs" because i've used that as justification for drug use so many times. but you need to understand that no matter bad things seem, they can always get about a million times worse. and taking powerful drugs is a good way to make that happen.

Geez, I thought this was a site dedicated to responsible drug use, not a place full of narcs. Pretty much every single thread on this site is about illicit recreational drug use, and here I get discouraged to use a LEGAL drug for MEDICAL reasons? Oh, the irony.

These pills are handed out to children like candy to treat a negligible, non-disabling condition. I think I can use them responsibly if psychiatrists already prescribe them to treat anxiety and depression.

It's been shown that dopamine plays a role in social anxiety i.e lack of will add to SAD problems and that dopaminergic drugs help in low doses. Apparently the MAOI Nardil (Phenelzine) has been shown to be good in Social Phobics. In my area docs wouldn't even consider this for me anyway because of the diet restrictions etc. I found Paroxetine (Seroxat/Paxil) good when I first took it. It has bad withdrawal effects apparently and I mean bad, according to a poll the withdrawal sides were shown to be worse than Heroin withdrawal and apparently 60% of users could not quit taking it, this is from a website though so is not backed up. When I took it I switched to Effexor and didn't feel any bad withdrawal symptoms. Paroxetine is the heroin of SSRI's very potent IME.

RE Dopamine above- I don't have any sources to back up the claim, I'll try and dig up. Myself I recommend Provigil for this. I find I am much more sociable and can converse better, my thinking is clear and I'm not obsessing over my anxiety, my mind seems to go with the flow, sort of in the moment, better concentration and confidence etc. It is also not habit forming but you can get used to it and need a higher dose, so you could use PRN.

Obviously the dopamine theory is no suitable in all cases and can cause panic, anxiety etc.

Another option is Lyrica if you can get it prescried. I'm in very early days with it and find it good for anxiety, particularly social, however I cannot give you a comprehensive experience. Some here though could, check out the Lyrica thread.

So my advice would be an SSRI and Provigil and maybe lyrica. However many here hate SSRI's and would advise against as they have not worked for them.

I get a lot of info from www.dr-bob.org/babble a site that discusses many meds and combo's etc for different conditions.

I already take Klonopin, and as previously stated it doesn't get the job done. And thanks for the tip but I'm using these drugs for medical reasons, not to abuse. 8)

If opioids were more readily available, maybe people like me and millions of others wouldn't be forced by the government to suffer from their mental demons.

Social phobia is an ANXIETY disorder, which is treated with anxiety medications. Adderall, et. al. are used to treat attention disorders an in some rare cases depression that comes with a severe lack of motivation.

Several SSRIs, gabapentin, BuSpar, etc. have been effective in treating social phobias in many people. Sure, they also don't work for some people, but psychiatry isn't an exact science.

IMO, someone who is looking to treat their anxiety disorder strictly for medical purposes does not immediately jump to requesting amphetamines and opiates.

These pills are handed out to children like candy to treat a negligible, non-disabling condition. I think I can use them responsibly if psychiatrists already prescribe them to treat anxiety and depression.

So did a lot of people who are now in rehabs for those meds.

I like how you really, honestly believe you are immune to addiction. Have fun then. The best thing you could probably do for yourself is go into the psychiatrist and ask for Adderall, Oxy, and Xanax. You'll be marked as a drug-seeker off the bat and won't have to deal with what is IMO, the inevitable addiction you are heading toward (if you aren't there already and downplaying it).

I resent being called a narc. I don't think you've been around enough to know me from my posts, so I'm not going to take it personally.

I'm not saying don't try it, I'm just saying it most likely won't work. At least not in the long run. And not with stims or opiates. (And I don't see the average doctor prescribing an amphetamine or opiate for anxiety.)

Some of us have seen people go down that path, and some of us have gone down the path ourselves. :/

Again, we're not saying don't try it, just trying to warn you. Good luck and take care, man.

I'm sorry dude, but you're coming off like a total jackass- insulting BL veterans/mods. Just because you didn't get the answer you wanted doesn't mean you should attack us. We've fucking been through addiction and are trying to HELP you. If you could only see the way that drugs have affected some of us, I believe you would stay away.

I really hope for the best for you. If it takes Adderall, Lexapro, Hydrocodone, or Meth.. Then good deal, you solved your problem. The thing is, when you build such a high tolerance that your back at square one and you try to quit.. You WILL be worse off.

I started using opiates completely for recreation, I was never in pain. Now if I don't take them, I am in a world of fucking pain. Ironic, eh? We also understand you are not asking our opinion for recreation, but for medical purposes.. But speaking for the lot of pain patientsthat I know that use opiates- their prescription used for a medical purpose shortly turns into recreational abuse.

Opiates are very social. Makes you feel ten feet taller and want to talk to someone

Very addicting though

I don't agree with that.

I took 4 percocet 5/325 pills totalling 20mg's of oxycodone w/ no tolerance during school and found myself being a total douche. I slept through most of the day and barley talked to anyone.

OP: i'd suggest adderall if you're looking for something social and to get work done and/or klodopin for the comedown/ for less anxiety.

I tooke around 1.75 mg's w/ 3 shots of vodka before a party and was sociable as hell. I don't think the alcohol had much of an effect.

~edit~

just read you already have that prescribed. nice.

and to whoever suggested caffiene, don't over do it. Taking more that 200 mg's a day for a long time caused me to be extremely anxious to the point of almost having a panic attack in school when I'm normally the chillest kid.

Sorry for coming off as a jackass. Taking a look at my situation from a different perspective, I can see how many people would find it odd and unsafe to venture into such a regimen because of a disorder that have most people completely flummoxed, and even slightly skeptical about how one could be so disabled from it. If going to the gym and working out would make my SA bearable in social situations, I would gladly do it every day. I think considering drugs like these a godsend and an attractive treatment option is an understandable viewpoint from someone like me when you consider the fact that neurotransmitter reuptake inhibitors just make me feel very sick, and natural treatment options can't change the way my brain is hardwired to think.

The point is that we don't know how you feel, you have probably posted subconciously thinking that in a way we know you and how you feel. I can understand a little. It also seems that you were in a way getting frustrated that the answers didn't suit you.

Anyway you have to consider that there are many drugs and hundreds of drug combo's that you haven't tried. Many people with Psych disorders find a good treatment straight away, other's take many many years to find the right cocktail. It's a trial and error process which becomes very frustrating after years, but there's always hope as I've seen many who have been seeking the right regime for decades sundenley cure their ills.

Opiates work for me, though I would hate to see another person marry them. Perhaps some DXM on a trial. Thats legal. Robitussin cough gels. Its worth a try. If you have social issues, there is treatment. Tell your doctor about your issues. Benzodiazapines may help.

diazepam will make it easier for you to socialise

but generally learning to relax is the key to making you socialise

Social anxiety

Sorry for coming off as a jackass. I know how severe social anxiety can be as I suffer from it as well, so you are not alone in your daily struggle even though you might feel that way. I myself have ADHD, Asperger's syndrome, PDD-NOS, chronic depression and social anxiety issues / panic attacks. And then I am only talking about my mental problems, not the physical ones. Bottom line is that you shouldn't think that you are alone since there will always be other people suffering from the same problems, maybe there are courses that you can go to that deal with social anxiety and meet some people like you. :)

I too am someone who sits at home all day staring at the walls because of the fear that I might get a panic attack or something else like pain in my back, luckily I still have a few good friends and a caring mother though. :)

You posted earlier that you wanted to give anything a try, whether it is ADHD medication like Ritalin or Adderall or Opiates like Codeine or Oxycodone, I also read something about Clonazepam which is a Benzodiazepine. So you have mentioned all types of drugs but you don't seem to realize that they would do more harm than good in the long run.
My daily regimen of medications still keeps growing because of both the social anxiety as well as my physical problems (Scheuermann's disease / kyphosis and Fibromyalgia). Medication is a temporarily solution at best and why would you want to risk getting physically addicted to them?

My current list of meds:
Methylphenidate (Ritalin IR) 6x10 mg daily - for my ADHD but got both mentally and psychically addicted after 3 years.
Oxycodone (OxyContin) 3x5 mg daily - for my chronic pain, have only been using them for a few days now but I will need them for a few weeks at least so getting off them will not be easy I think...
Codeine 8x10 mg daily - for chronic pain as well, dependant on Opiates thanks to these :\
Tramadol ER 3x100 mg daily - yet another for chronic pain, currently tapering off of them because they don't work anymore due to my tolerance.
Diazepam (Valium) 6x5 mg daily - this one is for my social anxiety but being dependant on Benzodiazepines is a bitch TBH :(

I would try to avoid getting dependant on any medication but sometimes there is no other option, but jumping right into the world of Opiates and Benzodiazepines is not wise IMHO. Getting on the medication is easy compared to stopping them, believe me. Try some forms of therapy first or maybe meditation or yoga before getting hooked on a few little pills like I did (and probably other people as well). I am not telling you to how to cope with your problems but I wanted to let you know how the other side of using prescription drugs can be. This forum is focused on harm reduction meaning that pills, whether they are Benzodiazepines, Opiates or Stimulants can have a great impact on your life in both positive as well as negative ways. So watch out for addiction / dependance, so you don't end up like me with multiple addictions.

I hope my post is readable since I do not speak English as a first language, if something is not clear please post it here or PM me, maybe try some of the social topics in TDS as I frequently visit that part of the site. I wish you good luck with your anxiety issues since I know how bad they can be. :)

Peace o/

+ a fucking million. Being able to be at ease in social situations without substances is a handy skill to say the least.

And + another million Rexeh's post.

Yeah I agree too. Someone earlier mentioned Meditation, and while it may sound zany to med familiar people it really does help. There has been a study (which is still ongoing where I live at a University) of group therapy where they all practice Mindfulness i.e. keeping your thoughts in the moment by being aware of your breathing and your surroundings without judging your thoughts etc.

The study was for depression and results were described as very much improved in all cases.

I have severe social phobia, and making conversation is extremely difficult and mentally taxing for me. I've tried enough conventional treatments to no avail, and am looking for the best drug available through RX to make me more social and outgoing. I know of dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine), methamphetamine (Desoxyn), lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), and Adderall. GHB (Xyrem) also sounds like a good one, but I'm even less likely to get a script for that than the aforementioned stimulants.

Which one is the best for what I'm looking for? Any other suggestions or different classes of drugs are welcome (opioids possibly?). Thanks in advance.

the term 'sociabilizer" here is, permit me to be so bold as to say, might be misused. the concept [a frightening one in my opinion] of sociabilizers is more veering towards the New Society [not bj;s]where everyone will take 'sociabilizers' and will back in the synergy of love reflected against love that such a junkie environment will provide. But let's not get into ethics. How about basics. Since you can spell, which is exceptionally rare, we'll assume you're of some intelligence and then some...I understand that social phobia can have different etiology and that oddly enough [to those to whom everything seems odd and illogical and monochrome], CNS stimulants make you 'social social', so they take away that anxiety, which then has to be regarded as not quite 'anxiety' to begin with but some sort of new phenomenon for which a word has not yet been coined [anyone?]. Here's the fun catch - you can feel very socially outward bound when you begin amphetamine or MPD/dMPD, however, tolerance builds very quickly and you will need doses exceeding recommended guidelines. You can eat them by the spoonful, but you understand that with amphetamine, going over 60mg QD is not a good idea especially if your condition is chronic. If you were to use it PRN, then you might keep your tolerance down of course, and it might work. But unless you haven't yet been on amphetamines, be duly informed....it's a nasty thing to get into. Cravings arise even in the least addictive of personalities. Even if the drug won't act as a euphoriant, cravings will come and doses will rise - and if the drug isnt a euphoriant....well then, what kind of sociabilizer is it?

Just some info. Since I've taken everything in the pharmacopoeia of the US and the CIS...

1. Try Lyrica? There's a method I may impart unto you if you're interested, in how to make it work always, indefinitely, and not build tolerance. Since sociabilizers only work by distracting you from anxiety. Sort of like, to put it without eloquence, if you were having really bad social phobia and lets say you wanted to talk to someone you were drawn to...and lets say i tap you on the back, you turn around, i slap you as hard as I possibly could on one cheek and then upon recoil, the other cheek. You would be able to go up to the persona in question and not be worried because you'd be in pain and in fear of some strange man slapping you in a public place. You would be distracted. Thus, the problem with sociabilizers - they stop working very very fast. But with Lyrica and Neurontin, there's a way...to benefit, a small little method i devised as I use them interchangeably with BDPs.

2. Baclofen is Lyrica's deformed little cousin, but some people are cured of anxiety with it, especially the social aspects such as tremor of limbs, voice, sweating, you know the drill.

3. SOMA [carisoprodol], if legal in your country, is not a good medication. But people with anxiety disorders are sometimes not helped by BDPs or require absurd amounts of them along with some tricyclic and most importantly something that prolongs QT interval and puts you at risk further.

4. Meprobamate - the metabolite of SOMA is available everywhere except ..I don't even know. Singapore maybe. It's C-IV, however, docs will be reluctant to prescribe carbamates and such...and its rather hepatoxic, however it's been around for a very long time and in my opinion, is a very potent anxiolytic.

5. Vistaril [Hydroxizine Pamoate, not 'Atarax' Hydroxizine HCl]given up to 400mg in bid-qid, is an anxiolytic which is an antihistamine. Do not underestimate it before you try it. It might not work alone, but if you augment with another anxiolytic, results CAN be spectacular. They were in my case...it's an extremely useful drug, takes the edge off tension and all that. Doesn't feel like Benadryl, ultra-light sedation but no nasty feeling. Great drug.

6. Mebaral [Mephobarbital]. If you live in a big city, in the liberal part of town with the museums and the needle exchange centers/check-cashing joints, look for a psychiatrist thereabouts. Some will slap you and throw you out of their office if they hear 'Mebaral'. But others are not about controversy...but about treatment. It's a schedule IV barbiturate, not as addictive...as addictive as Valium, which is pretty addictive. Using this PRN is also effective. Barbiturates obliterate anxiety so well, you make a loop and become anxious again it seems [just shitting you] But that should be the last resort. Theyre not cool.

NOTES

1. You mentioned Vyvanse. Vyvanse, even though most of the full prescribing info talks about how it's been given a non-fun rating by meth abusers, is a realllly potent thing. It is dextroamphetamine which loops and loops and undergoes metabolism forever...sort of like if you took a loop diuretic, baking soda, and amp. I'd honestly stick to the good old Yellow dextrostats/drines

2. Let me get boring again and play by the rules. You complain of debilitating social phobia. This includes racing heartbeat, sweating, confusing, sense of 'losing it', basically a panic attack every time something is expected of you and youre being stared at and you think you must 'live up' to whatever expectations...even though you understand theyre ridiculous and youre just paranoid and that the ten thousand worries you have in your head about looking foolish will be overlooked by 99% of the population...and yet you can stop worrying so you withdraw or hit the bar to 'calm yourself', and that ain't good.

3. You suggest opiates. They will lead to very rapid development of tolerance and dependence. Plus, they simply act as euphoriants, and short term for that...and you will be clumsy on them, will not be able to drink, and will have a lot of fun in the ER. Not because you're a junkie, but because I know your pain with the social phobia shit, and if something helps, you use it...even if its very bad. Best to never start with opiates though.

4. Your best bet....why not a benzodiazepine? We have Xanax, Serax, Klonopin, Librium, Tranxene, Valium, Ativan, Temazepam if your doc is old skool...temazepam is indicated for anxiety disorders in my countries instead of treatment of insomnia. The best, and safest method for curbing social phobia is by taking benzodiazepines. An even more excellent idea, you can augment with a low dose tricyclic at bedtime, especially if you have trouble sleeping. Tricyclics are very very good for anxiety, notably Imipramine, Elavil, and my beloved Anafranil [25mg qhs give no sexual adv. effects but helps the anxiety a shitload]. Also you can augment with Buspar. Buspar is not very effective, but it helps some, and it might help you very much in combo with other drugs. It's also benign, and typically you feel barely anything from it, no sex. side effects, etc.

5. In the end, the most potent agents for social phobia are PAXIL, EFFEXOR, Zoloft is indicated but is not very effective plus weight gain....and Cymbalta is being used nowadays....interesting drug. Mood lifting.

if you want more info, PM me....i'm brimming with advice on this issue cause i beat my social phobia ..about 80% of it..not through yoga or tai chi or ECT, but through pharmacological intervention and simple methods of thinking about my anxiety differently. With time, I improved drastically. so dont hesitate to pm and vent if anything.

good luck.

I recommend you seek the help of a psychiatrist, and if recommended by him/her (which will be VERY likely) also the help of a talk therapist.

Conventional wisdom dictates that a combo of antidepressants and cognitive behavioral therapy is the appropriate treatment for social anxiety disorder.

Cup of coffee has around 200mg caffeine.

Adderall consists of three pointless amp salts and one effective one....with adderall there is increased tremor, more so than in MPD, dMPD, and d-amp/methamp. I dont see how trembling hands are going to cure your anxiety or make you more social...it would lead to more embarrassment.

Coming off of a stimulant with a benzodiazepine. Do you realize the advice you're giving is sort of....not really that good? But I say that not to offend, really. It's just a bad tug of war when youre on an upper and a downer and then an upper again...that's how you go mad eventually and join the krishna
