I have severe social phobia, and making conversation is extremely difficult and mentally taxing for me. I've tried enough conventional treatments to no avail, and am looking for the best drug available through RX to make me more social and outgoing. I know of dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine), methamphetamine (Desoxyn), lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), and Adderall. GHB (Xyrem) also sounds like a good one, but I'm even less likely to get a script for that than the aforementioned stimulants.

Which one is the best for what I'm looking for? Any other suggestions or different classes of drugs are welcome (opioids possibly?). Thanks in advance.

I don't see getting a stimulant helping you out at all for this. If you must go the rx route, which I think is only a short term solution to a problem that you will eventually have to face without any drugs, I'd consider a low dose long half-life benzo. But seriously, consider getting this solved without drugs. It'll take time, be rough at first, but it's really the only "cure." Good luck.

Coffee is probably the only drug I feel reliably sociable and functional on at the same time. Plus its use is very widely accepted.

But learning to be sociable without a drug is way more sustainable in the long run. Meditation and exercise have always worked for me.

I'm already taking clonazepam PRN, it helps somewhat but doesn't make me more talkative. Also, it isn't potent or intoxicating enough to give me the balls to sign up for a few college courses or attempt getting a job again which is something I really need to do.

I've already faced the fact that I'm going to need medication to help ease me into the outside world. Relying on medication for the rest of my life is not something I'm planning on, I'm only using it to smooth the transition from where I'm at now to developing a social network and getting a steady job. If I go the natural route, it simply won't help enough or fail to give me the "protective shield" I need to drop this avoidant behavior. Exposure without medication just traumatizes me and causes me to become more reclusive.

Your social problem + prescription stimulant = recipe for disaster.
You will tell yourself that you'll only use them to go out and socialize, then a few months later you'll be snorting them at home by yourself. If you really think you could control yourself (as in not getting addicted), I think I would suggest Adderall. I don't have any experience with it which makes my statement a little less valid, but I believe it would aide in your goal of sociability.
Where are you located? You don't need to say exactly, just the continent would be sufficient.
If in Europe, Australia, or Canada (I believe- yeah, Canada is not a continent, I know) OTC Codeine (an opiate) may help in social situations as it calms you and makes you feel a bit more confident.
Hope that helps, my friend.

I think addiction potential is a risk well worth taking considering the alternative is staying in my house the rest of my life and being financially dependent on my parents forever. I have extremely strong will power when it comes to drugs, either that or I just don't do them enough to become addicted, because chocolate has always been more addictive to me than DXM, hydrocodone, and alcohol. Thanks for the Adderall suggestion btw.

I live in the US, I don't know if codeine is available OTC here but I think tramadol is. Either way, I'd probably have to ingest a massive amount of APAP to take an efficacious dose of either.

I would recommend trying for an Adderall script as it is DL-amphetamine so you get the physical euphoric high which will increase sociability in most people with SAD.

I know because I have been dealing with SAD for many years now and I've been scipted Adderall, d-amphetamine, methylphenidate, and lisdexamfetamine dimesylate.

I prefer the Adderall to all the other stims. I am interested in Desoxyn but know that I will never get a script written for that particular stim due to the stigma that comes with meth.
:D

Codeine is not available over the counter here in the USA. Tramadol is sorta legal, but you have to order it through the internet, can't find it in a pharmacy.

I think I experience what you have but to a much lesser extent. I used opiates to help me socialize and get out, and while it worked for a while, ultimately it only made things worse for me.

it's interesting you mention that because i am not a regular consumer of caffeine at all, however the last time i drank a cup of coffee, i did feel like it made me feel a little more talkative. does this effect go away with tolerance? i have no caffeine tolerance obviously.

i agree that learning to be sociable without drugs is way more sustainable. even in the short term, using drugs to become more social is often problematic.

Thanks for the reply. I have also heard good things about Adderall, one user reported it "turns them into an extrovert". Sounds very appealing. Do you take the immediate-release version or XR?

That's quite a list of stimulants you've been able to score a script for. Were you able to get an Rx for them with SAD being the only diagnosis?

This question has been asked several times in the past week alone.

Here is one example: http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=413936

Search engines are your friend, bro.
Yep, I use search engines every time I plan on creating a new thread. That particular one is about anxiolytics, not pro-social drugs.

Klonopin or Xanax. Don't go the Opiod route. I got so addicted to opiates because they helped me tremendously with my social anxiety. But it ended up ruining my life. Of course, I thought addiction only happened to "weak" people. Ha. Try a benzo, don't abuse it. Stay the hell away from opiates. Or you'll end up broke and on Suboxone/Methadone.

Also, it isn't potent or intoxicating enough to give me the balls to sign up for a few college courses or attempt getting a job again which is something I really need to do.
If you need to get intoxicated to do what you have to do, something is seriously wrong and you shouldn't look for rx solutions at all.
As for potency, talk to your doctor about upping or dose, or try it yourself. Also, there are plenty of other benzo's you might be able to try out.

You seem dead-set on getting stims though, which I think won't even accomplish your short term goals, especially if you need to take enough to get intoxicated.

Usually famous last words when spoken around here. The italics is what is most likely going on.

Let's say you do get an rx for something that will allow you to achieve what you want. You don't see yourself using that everyday? You don't see yourself upping the dose to squeeze a few more results out of the meds? How are you gonna make the transition off of them? All the sudden you're gonna realize that you really didn't need the drugs, and you could do it without them? Well if that's the case you could have done that all along.

I already take Klonopin, and as previously stated it doesn't get the job done. And thanks for the tip but I'm using these drugs for medical reasons, not to abuse. 8)

If opioids were more readily available, maybe people like me and millions of others wouldn't be forced by the government to suffer from their mental demons.

im off opiates now and im not as talkative but it is SOOOOOO worth it. go that route if you need to, but i do not suggest it after 9 years lost to that particular "remedy"

I've tried 4mgs of clonazepam with no tolerance and it still doesn't do the trick. I might try other benzos, but putting my faith in that class of drugs to get me out of this mess would be setting myself up for some major disappointment.

I shouldn't be looking for Rx solutions? What else could solve this, a lobotomy? :|

Tons of people have had great success with opioids, potent stimulants, and GHB/GBL. Are you saying it's not even worth a shot?

Alright then, forget the meds. Then this way I know I have no chance of recovery. The risk of addiction outweighs the benefit of actually experiencing a life worth living, eh? I guess sitting at home doing nothing 24/7 and living a completely unfulfilling life is the best choice by your logic.
