video game: tiger woods pga tour

i have surprisingly bad hand-eye coordination so i'm not that interested in video games in general.

however, i've always found that i enjoy - and can grow to be pretty good at - golf sims. recently i've been playing a lot of tiger woods pga tour. i have the '03 version on an xbox and the 08 version on my pc.

any other players here? i prefer playing on the xbox as the graphics are better (even though the version i have is 5 years older) and the gameplay is easier with the xbox controller. my game is now pretty rounded. my driving is excellent, my approach and short iron play is inconsistent. when i'm good, i'm really good but i still have control problems. finally, it took a long time to get the hang of putting but i have it now.

while i like to play tourneys against the computer, i prefer to play skins matches against my roommate.

I love golf. Likewise golf video games. I loved Hal's Hole in One Golf for SNES.
Tiger Woods is great series, unlike most sports games older versions are perfectly fine, so that adds bonus points. I think I have Tiger '06 for ps2 floating around here somewhere, I now want to play!

I like when you are in the rough or sand it tells you how many % points that hinder your shot, it's fun math to figure out how hard to swing. Putting is intense, that is where I shine.......I rate the series 5 stars.

Tiger is too good at real life golf, fuck him.

i dont like video games in general, but ive always loved playing tiger woods golf with friends. its the only game ive really gotten into. every other game i end up playing for 2 weeks at most, and get tired of it. but like you, alasdair, i have bad hand-eye coordination and am usually really bad. i do like playing first-person shooters, but i get killed a lot and dont get many kills. its fun, but at the same time very nerve racking.

i think i like tiger woods golf because, for the most part, anyone can pick it up and its a fun game to play while drinking with friends, and not constant playing. you take your shot and then can sit and bullshit, whatever, while waiting for your next turn. its not constant action action action.

It can be a "background game" while you shoot the shit. Nothing that requires too much attention from every all the time.

That being said, it does have some pretty dramatic moments (long crucial putts) so thats what makes it awesome.

^ agreed on drama. i was playing my roomie yesterday - i'd say we're about the same level. we were playing skins and there were about 5 roll-over skins on the line and he hit a hole in one at the par 3 and looked at me very smugly. i hit a hole in one to halve the hole

it can definately get intense when moments like that occur. such a fun game, and i havent played it in some time unfortunately. i have good memories of getting lit with the same friends and playing that game all night long. we would get so into it and so focused, especially on the puts. :D

I care nothing about real golf so it never occured to me to try this until tiger '08. My friend had a 360 and accidentally bought the reg xbox version so he gave it to me. Figured what the hell, and bam,I was hooked. Later got '08 for my 360.

Now playin the '09 on my 360 and i'm still diggin' it. The club tuner's def cool on '09. Me and my best friend sit around and play matches all the time if we're just chillin'...and yes some rounds get tense....and we talk mad shit. Trying to break each others banks on the wagers.

Never got into Golden Tee or any of that shit in bars and never woulda figured i'd of liked a golf game, but I've probably spent more overall time playing this game than any other on my xbox or 360. Go figure huh?

And i still wont watch real golf. Bo-ring!

so far i've owned a few versions of this game for PS2...keep trading 'em out every few years and pick up the new one. i think the one we have now is the '05 though. i like this game...good game to pick up when you are kinda bored and just want to play for less than an hour and not get "involved" in anything.

a friend just bought a ps3 and woods '08. it will be interesting to see how the gameplay differs from the xbox/03 combination.

i was playing in a tourney yesterday and went round st. andrews in 26 under par for the round. it was unbelievably windy and i could reach some of the par 4's in 1 which helped enormously - i had 8 eagles and 10 birdies including 1 putt of 98ft!
