The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much?

Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show's questions. Each chapter of Jamal's increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show's seemingly impossible quizzes.

That has to be one of the worst concepts for a film that I have ever heard of.

You're out of your mind Deceased,
this movie looks awesome, and the preview gave me chills.

Seriously, this is brilliant. Think of all the drivel we've had in the past 1, 2, 5 years. This is refreshing. I'm going to see it. Unless TheDeceased thinks I should opt for something like "superhero movie" instead. 8)

Film: Slumdog Millionaire

I just got out of the theatre less than an hour ago, and I haven't felt this overwhelmed emotionally (in a good way) about a movie in years.

Great concept, great cinematography, beautiful story - I don't want to spoil it - although I'd love to discuss certain aspects of it later in this thread, once more people have gotten the opportunity to see it.

It's NOT flawless, but it's novel, it's clever and it's beautiful - I cannot overstate how much I *implore* each and every one of you to go see it.

wow I loved this movie, especially the first half, the young actors were great. I think the film did a great job of explaining the older Jamal after showing all the shit he had gone through as a kid.

^ You mean Dave Attell? He hates it when I call him that. ;) Not my fault God made him an Attell decoy. But I'm passing this message onto him now. I know he (and I) respect your opinion enough to actually follow through with your commandments. :) <3

Loved the premise of the film.

Loved the film!

Really really good film!

Can those that rated the film 1 star, say why, or are you just being deliberately contentious (or voting without having seen the film...)

CB :)

What was predictable?

You don't know he has 1 question left until late in the film, so you couldn't guess the ending until then. I guess you could have assumed it has a happy ending and Jamal and Latika end up together, but I find it hard to believe that you could have predicted beyond that basic plot point.
