We are few and far between, I know we've got to have quite a few of them here. (Maybe wishful thinking)

So I'm curious, if you're female and a gamer, what's your preferred system & game, what are you playing right now? How long have you been playing? And lastly, do you find guys discriminate or are skeptical against your gaming skills until you beat them at their own game?

Guys, if you happen in here, do you appreciate it when your woman joins you in Co-op'ing or vs. battle?

I love when my girlfriend plays games with me but it usually ends badly for both of us. It goes something like this...

Co-op in Gears of War: We enter the game and I'll tell her what is going on like, "Ok, there is some bad guys up here.. get ready" and she'll say, "What the fuck?! I don't even know what I'm looking at.. these fucking controls are so stupid.. where did you go? WHO IS SHOOTING ME?! WHERE AM I BEING SHOT FROM?!" Then I'll try to tell her to stop spinning wildly and looking at the sky and just slowly move the camera around so she understands the surroundings to which she'll reply, "IM NOT EVEN TOUCHING THE CONTROLS! THIS IS SO STUPID I HATE MYSELF!" at which point she leaves the room.

Vs in anything: We enter the game and she starts looking for me. I instantly know where she is because I have the whole map memorized. I pretend to be looking for her but I'm really just watching her so I know where she is. I orchestrate a meeting where she is behind me or something where it looks like I don't see her. Then she starts shooting at me and missing and I pretend like I don't know where it's coming from for awhile.

Then finally she is out of ammo and probably running into a wall or stuck somewhere. At this point I have to start shooting back and pretending like I'm trying because she knows I'm not that bad. She'll say something like, "Oh come on.. I know you're not even trying.." and I'll say "I am.. seriously.. this is so hard."

Then about 9/10 times I kill her even though I've been trying as hard as I can not to or occasionally she'll be able to kill me if I walk backwards into her saying, "Oh my god.. where are you?"

After about 10-15 minutes of this I get really bored and decide to start playing for real. I'll just pull out a knife or whatever and side-step/crouch/jump over to her and kill her over and over again until she says, "WHAT THE FUCK! YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY BETTER THAN ME! WHY DON'T YOU EVEN LET ME WIN EVER?! I FUCKING HATE THIS GAME! THESE CONTROLS ARE STUPID! I AM WORTHLESS AND HATE MYSELF!"

So, do I appreciate it when she joins me playing games? Yes, I really love it that she is willing to traumatize her ego by playing a video game with me. Even after countless thrown controllers and emotional fights with me she'll still come and play if I ask her to. And you know just recently I got her playing Portal from the Orange Box thing and she can actually maneuver using a mouse/keyboard in a 3D environment without spinning in circles or staring at the floor. This is a huge improvement. I think in another 5 years or so she might be able to play co-op with me without crying at the end.

Oh and as far as discrimination against female gamers goes.. the only thing I've ever noticed is if a girl talks in voice chat everyone says, "WHOA ITS A FEMALE!"

My stepson plays Wow really really well and over the summer when i listened to all the dorky boys playing..I would talk while he played and the boys were always like wtf your really a girl, theres no way etc etc.

we came across a female gamer in halo 2 over a eyar ago and now shes moved out here and living with one of my best friends. she used to be really cool but now shes so much better than all of us at halo that she plays with other people closer to her skill range. its kinda gay, but shes a pretty cool girl i guess.

im a female gamer..ive always played Nintendo, than nintendo 64 and all that jazz and now im starting to get into WoW..thanks to my boyfriend, ive been playing for a few months now and i kinda like it, but im not addicted like those other fools

Ryan... I laughed so hard at that. Right on. =D

I didn't really expect to see our ladies playing WoW. That's awesome that you're into it without being taken over by it like all of the stories we hear about how people lose their kids from neglect, to people losing their jobs. That's one platform that I've never been exposed to. I've been curious though.

There's a girl that goes to the game shop that kind of inspired me to make this thread. We are always discriminated against, primarily because of the fact that we are femmes. Then we play and most of the guys are like... whoa. I so have to say that I love that reaction.

Kul69. That made me half laugh and half crying on the inside. ;) You're poor gf. Have you tried actually giving her a tutorial on the controls?

Kul69 - I'm going to be bold here and admit that I'm that girl when I've played with boyfriends/ guy friends. You're interpretation was so spot on! You got me laughing aloud in the computer lab. :D

Maybe they won't admit it but alot of guys like to play their girlfriends as a little ego boost. It's quite sad but at the same time really funny to watch my mates beat their girlfriends at pro evo. But what's even funnier is when their girlfriends beat them and then process to wave their fingers in their boyfriends face saying ''smell yer ma!!''.

I think some girls agree to play their boyfriend competitively just to make him happy. I'd say most girls don't give a fuck about loosing a computer game but some guys take it very seriously. I've seen so many arguments started between guys over the results of a pro evo game :D. Pro evo is a staple of nights in across the country..except for those Fifa wankers ;)

Gaming is a requirement when considering a potential mate.

QFT. Seriously, gaming is too huge apart of who i am for me to have a girlfriend who doesn't game, or thinks it is for little kids and teenagers. I hate people who think videogames are for young people. that's bullshit.

And whoever thinks there aren't very many female gamers are so very very wrong...there are way more than people think.

Lots of girls play WoW too, tc. well either that, or they're men pretending to be girls ;)

A friend of mine only recently left her job as a GM at Blizzard for WoW.
Well, she was a nuclear safety engineer before that (seriously, she inspected nuclear sub reactors) so I guess she was already in a serious minority.

well, im not a gamer and im not a female, but one of the most attractive (in every way) girls i know loves to play video games as well as computer games. i wish i didnt get bored really quick w/ them and give up really easily because i am so bad at them.

i did however play wii bowling the other day and that was pretty fun.

HAHA Kul69 thats pretty much on point wit how some of my past girlfriends have reacted ;)

It's not that I didn't think that there were chicks into WoW, I just didn't realize how many. Again, I've never been exposed.

female gamers FTW.

my first console was an atari2600. i fucking loved that thing; and played frogger, space invaders, and some gay wizard game for a few years. nintendo not long after released the entertainment system and i was hooked. mario brothers (thats a given), zelda and kid icarus were my favs.

sega released their first console not long after; but i didnt think much of it (never really been a sega fan). sonic was alright but alex kidd and various others sucked. nintendo released another console; and a few years following that; playstation released their first. i couldnt get enough of the ps1; and fell in love with games like tekken, tony hawk, final fantasy, medal of honor.

didnt think much of gamecube and pretty much gave up on nintendo after that. i now stick to my xbox and ps. although ps is definately my all time fav console. best RPG's and fighting games ever. <3

^^^ =D You just made me swoon. <3

Gamecube never caught my eye as a system that I needed to play.

My PS is a must have for me. My gaming started when I was little with my 4 brothers. (no sisters) Started with an Atari with games like Frogger and Fast Food, went to the Nintendo, SNES, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, then my beloved Playstation, where, like you, I couldn't get enough of Final Fantasy, Tekken, and even now, I couldn't give up my ps2, and the ps3 hasn't had any title that make me want to buy it.

<3 Gaming <3 mmmmm........

you rule trancey. <3

sega genesis; was one console that sadly didnt make it to australia. you could purchase one overseas and have it sent over; but getting the games soon proved almost impossible and more trouble than it was worth. they tried releasing an "updated" console here around that time as a substitute; the mega drive 2 (i believe it was called?) and it was exactly the same as the first with a handful of extra games being the only difference.

as a nintendo lover trancey, did you have the first game boy released?
