I'm something of an Orbital neophyte; I only have The Altogether and the Blue Album, and love 'em both. Of the rest of their albums, which do you think are the best?

In Sides is great, really, really great! My favourite is probably Snivilisation, I have to listen to it start to finish, there is no other alternative. But it's not like the Brown and Green albums, and Middle Of Nowhere aren't fantastic as well. Basically, if it says Orbital on the cover, BUY IT. :)

I second the 'brown album' Orbital 2.. It's really a classic album, it may sound a bit dated by today's standards but I like the old school sound. This was the definitive Ketamine or DXM album for me back in the day. In Sides as a second, make sure you get the extended version of The Box..

I guess I can agree on that, I do like In Sides more from a musical and technical standpoint, and it is a better album, but the brown album came first and was an inspiration to many. That's why I termed it a classic moreso than In Sides.

Hell, I bought a Korg Prophecy because of In Sides.

i would say my least favorites are the green album (their first, just called orbital), their back to mine comp and octane (a soundtrack).

Snivilsation is rather good but it took longer for it to grow on me but now it is up there in my faves. middle of nowhere, the brown album (orbital2) and insides being my favorites i suppose. it's so hard to pick though as they are my favorite group.

After listening to In Sides after about a year break, I think I have to position it as one of the most musically and technically perfect (artistic, production, and execution) electronic albums of all time. It's in my top three with Aphex Twin - RDJ album and FSOL - Lifeforms..

the mixmag 'bedroom sessions' mix CD they did is really cool - offers you an insight into their inspirations, their musical reference points.

^ That is a damn fine CD.

Try to track down a copy of the Sasha vs the light mix of Belfast. A great remix of a superb track.

>>Hmmm. I never got onto the RDJ album, sounds like I should, as I also love In Sides and Lifeforms!

eh...these three discs actually sound nothing alike.

ebola

I would definitely go with In Sides, an incredible album. Middle of Nowhere is good too, but it's a different atmosphere.
