film: The Professional [or, Leon]

I just bought this DVD for $9.99 because I like this movie and thought it was a good price. I haven't seen it in a long time and just watched it.

I really like this movie and was wondering how everyone else felt about it?

Excellent movie and I love Jean Reno's performance in it!

I think it's a great movie. Although I have some friends that dislike it cause of the whole little girl, older guy thing. They just don't get it I guess.

The European version, "Leon," has about half an hour of stuff the American censors said no to.

Excellent movie. I love Gary Oldman.

I thought the euro version was called "Le Assassin" or something?

I loved this movie - Natalie Portman was amazing.

=D

nope :) - check out the imdb entry here.

Brilliant movie - the half-uncomfortable interaction between Reno and Portman was so well done, and the action at the end was good to!

I've got the European version. The movie is great on several levels, and the extra footage really adds to the story.

i'd agree. If you are to purchase this film, please get the European version. Leon and Matilda's relationship is explained much better and adds depth to the film overall.

i need to watch this again soon, so i might buy the euro dvd - i really like luc besson as a director (he did the fifth element, amongst others), and this is a really good film.

and portman was amazing for her age. i wish jean reno took more of these kind of roles, instead of stuff like godzilla. admittedly though, he might and i just haven't seen 'em :)

While his role was small, Reno's character in La Femme Nikita had an aura similar to Leon. Cleaners rule! Now that's another Besson flim that deserves mention. Nevermind The Messanger. =D

i just saw this last night for the first time. I gotta say it lived up to all the hype i heard about it.

Loved it. A fave since my first viewing. I can't really bring up films to compare it to - yes there was some kick ass blow up fight scene stuff, but it is sooo much better than the re-treaded hollywood tripe.

How cool would a sequel be? Somebody whack's Jean Reno, and Matilda hunts them down? Well, enough for wishful thinking.

wanted: total movie geek

a question:

is the drug dealer that kills matilda's father "drexell" from True Romance?

great fuckin flick though:)

The movie has been shown on Bravo a lot lately, so if you want to see it check out the Bravo schedule

Yups, another great performance by Gary Oldman :)

Anyway, I've got nothing more to add besides that Léon is an amazing movie, have seen it 4 or 5 times by now and never get sick of it.
Hooray for Luc Besson, Jean Reno, Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman!!

How come I am the only one that ever mentions the fact that Tony stole all of Leon's money? It is made PAINFULLY obvious in many scenes where Tony is giving him the runaround about where all the money is going, and he acts all insulted and keeps sending him on more jobs and giving him a pittance to live on. Leon was never going to see a cent of that money, he was supposed to die on a job.

When Mathilda comes he hands her a couple of bucks and basically doesn't mention anything about the millions of dollars he owers her for years of Leon's work.

That was the really sad part of the ending, imho, Leon was just a tool who was used his whole life and he thought his work would help Mathilda but in the end Tony just stole her money like he did his :(
