My Mom's finally doing MDMA assisted therapy!

Hey everybody. My Mom has finally decided to let me help her with coping with her severe cPTSD through psychedellic therapy and I couldn't be happier! I've been talking to her about this for 20+ years now and she's finally come around. I've been out of the local social loop for a long time so I have no idea where to source; but when I end up making the connection I want to put it through the most rigorous analysis possible.

What's the most respected and qualified lab I can send something to for analysis?

I dont' want to merely just make sure there's some MDMA 'in there.' I want to make sure it gets put through mass spectrometer analysis and whatever else they can put it through to make sure that it's only MDMA I'm giving my Mom. I'm sure it's easy to understand my concern here. This would be her first psychedellic experience and I want it to be as pure as possible. She deserves it.

Thanks for the help and guidance!

Are you sure that attempting experimental therapy on your mum without professional training is really a good idea?

I understand she's your mum and all, but the MDMA assisted psychotherapies you hear about are all done with a super controlled environment and setup. She could potentially get hurt (or worse) even if you follow through with many the same steps.

I'd suggest you two bring it up with a psychotherapist - maybe you can convince them to put your mum up on a list for a novel academic experiment or something.

Yes. We're doing it with a MAPS trained psychotherapist and she's been cleared for the treatment.

Kykeon is expensive but seems decent enough if you don’t have a free testing service available (which Canada and Europe do generally offer)

also keep this in mind.
I did home MDMA therapy for myself as a teenager with life-changing results, but you have to be VERY careful.

Thanks much arral. Appreciate the info.

Do the services in Canada and Europe offer the same level of testing as Kykeon? Maybe I could use their info as well and investigate for myself.

It depends on the service.
Where are you located?

In what way do you advise people to be 'VERY careful' in this scenario?

I have the same question as partyfriend. I've had really tough trips before so I understand emotionally intense things can happen, but I'm wondering more about what thoughts are behind arral's cautionary advice.

Well, I checked out Kykeon's webpage and they are apparently not doing analysis at the moment. Their page say they are relocating from Spain the Canada and their service is suspended in the meantime. I've written them to confirm.

Any other suggestion for a company that can do a high quality lab analysis?

Ecstasy gives me the worst comedown , ,absolute fear
Is it given in micro doses? For therapy?
Not usually, no.

The basic point of using it for therapy is so that people can address trauma without slipping into a fight or flight / hyper-vigilance response. It's not that the mdma experience is the therapy in and of itself, but of course mdma can be therapeutic.

yeah, https://energycontrol.org/

Be aware though that even if your mdma is as pure as the driven snow, it's still nowhere near definite that it will be the good-good. I can't describe it beyond that unfortunately, but I do subscribe somewhat to the thinking that the effect of the drug changed enormously when the precursors changed, although many others would disagree (there's a huuuuge thread on this very subforum all about it, but be warned you may well lose your mind and/or the will to live if you happen to fall down that particular rabbit hole)

Holy cow sounds like I need to stay away from that thread! Thanks for the warning, and thanks for staying with me here apf. This is all going to help an amazing human being.

So it sounds like safrole isn't the main precursor anymore?

There is absolutely no empirical evidence supporting this.
The far more likely explanation is that a bunch of middle-aged rollers who overdid it in their teens and 20s lost the magic.

And the context of taking ecstasy changed...

In the 90s and early 00s - the world was a much different place. Ecstasy was new and had mystique - the majority of the population hadn't been on SSRIs and stimulants for much of their lives. Nowadays, people are much more likely to carry psychiatric diagnoses and prescriptions to match them, and when you take MDMA with receptors that haven't been disturbed by amphetamine or prozac, it has a much different effect than taking MDMA after having history with those meds.

We also used to take MDMA in specific contexts - raves that were designed for the MDMA experience. It wasn't until much later that people became more accustomed to using it at home alone. It was always a special social thing.

When did ecstasy change its name to mdma
I know that's the active drugs name but never heard it being used in the 90s or early 2000s
Is there a difference ?

Sorry to hear this lost weekend. Have you found that you're sensitive to any other psychedelics or neurotransmitter modulators, recreational or prescribed?
No but I seen a psychiatrist in my late 20s and he suggested a strong link to heavy ecstacy use in teen years to the state of mind I was experiencing at time

Thanks for explaining more about what you've experienced lw. From what I know using mdma for therapy is relatively safe if someone's neurotransmitters are fairly well balanced or if they don't have a serious psychiatric condition/diagnosis; but, I'd like to understand it from every angle possible, so I appreciate what you have to say.

From what I gather, recreational drugs have always gone through a slow evolution of being called different names, depending on the time period and location. More than anything else, it probably depends on the immediate culture surrounding it. I have a limited understanding of this, but around my part of the world it was called ecstasy when it was first popularized in the late 90s, and then moved on to being called moly, short for molecule. How many different names its been referred to since I could only imagine. I've never been part of the local scene, so what I know of it only comes by way of friends who make occasional mention of it. Sorry if I'm putting too sharp a point on it here, but the acronym mdma is the shorthand form of referring to the longer chemical name, as the academic community is like to do, and can be thought of as a more linguistically 'stabilized' way of referring to it.
