Disagree - as a desktop user of linux I find it far more useful and versatile than any mass-market os I've used.
and way more secure
if ya want gui games and IoT that play nice - go windows
if ya wanna tinker lil bit more (and still use a VM to run windows inside Linux) go linux

this stuff is barely a hurdle anymore, hardware support and 3D have come long way

the only things that Linux doesn't do in 2026 (that i know of) is DRM like WideVine and kernel-level anti-cheat

i can't waste my life watching propaganda slop or playing brainrot COD :'(

from a ex-hacker that OS is wide open, youre not getting any security patches in 6 years it long ago reach end of life
Swtich to Win10 Ive used it just fine on a pos win7 laptop i had was able to write code etc no probs even big apps
and all of mcsfts stuff is free iso nowdays

Not true. Server 2008 R2, patched around 98% of the CVE's. What windows 7 lacks is the TLS 1.3, SMBv3 or the fact that you cannot run SMB multichannel(use multiple NIC's to gather more LAN speed.
Windows 7 security holes for POS are even less, but recently PCI-DSS announced that some cryptographic updates are needed and they don't hold any responsability if something were to happen to that POS device.
In a household environment is completely up for the job

all these cardboard programmers are wrong to think that Linux is more versatile than Windows. I could instantly demolish this argument but I don't have the patience, the necessary reward and the correct place to do this. My resonance here is very limited since is a drug oriented website, not a techy savvy forum at very least. The TLS 1.3 stupidity can be fixed with a local proxy via stunnel or similar apps. Now your Win7/8.1 is fully equipped with the latest internet protocol. But there's no sense in just using 1.3 since 1.2 will work for the next 10-12yrs and online possible less, 2030ish.
What will break the protocol is the cuantic computers aka (PCQ) but other than this, you're ok ;)

it's easy to talk if you think you own a degree and this is it but is not. Again, I dislike cardboard programmers!

I could expand tremendously but I'll officialy stop here. A last argument is this. Use whatever you like. Period

yea but Windows Server 2008 R2 reached its official End of Support on January 14, 2020
Windows 10 officially reached its end of support on October 14, 2025
both had extended end of life support - problem was win11 wants TPM2 crypto module, so we had to bypass that requirement with Ventoy for win11

all youre doing (if ya dont change to win11) is getting closer to current patch dates (ie., October 21, 2026 for win11) so if ya choose win10 (does have lil extended security life support) youre closer to 0-day protection today by at least 5 years compared to EOL of win10

i always have 1 device with a somewhat modern operating system to do basic shit
everything else is beautiful
maybe win 11 is objectively more powerful but windows 7 is actually fucking beautiful and you wont make me upgrade bill!

thats different then - i wouldnt go using something EOL on the internet (but ya got that handled)
Thats like streaking wide ass open out here in cyber wars
If any drive by d/l site scanner sees that EOL OS connected in its over

most of my older devices are offline only
windows 7 is the exception (ill figure it out when it becomes fully vulnerable later)

Windows 7 is Windows 8 without any of 8's improvements. Windows 7 is simply outdated.

On the subject of security, I wonder if innovative software like VoodooShield is sufficient to protect an outdated operating system.

well if ya only visit known sites and not random pron sh*t there isnt a lot to worry about, the fear is what brings the $.

lett em hack my shit the first thing the go for is user indexed filed on a drive or drives but if there arent any indexed there really gives em shit.
