News Bluelight is turning 27!

Twenty-seven years ago, a small group of people decided that honest conversation about drugs would keep more people safe than silence would. That idea became Bluelight.org.

Since then, millions of people have come here looking for information, usually from someone who had been in the same spot. Some of you have been here for two decades. Some of you joined last week. All of you are the reason this place works.

One thing hasn't changed in 27 years: Bluelight is independent and run by volunteers. Our moderators, admins and board give their time for free. Nobody tells us what we can or can't say, which is why you can trust what you read here.

Independence has a cost, though. Hosting, security and software all have to be paid for, and we rely on this community to cover them.

So for our birthday, we're asking for one thing: if Bluelight has ever helped you or someone you care about, please consider a donation. Every amount helps, and every dollar goes into keeping Bluelight running.

Donate here

Whether or not you can donate... feel free to tell us in this thread how you found Bluelight and what it has meant to you. We'd love to read it.

Edit: We'd also really appreciate some good reviews on TrustPilot. Taking the time to do this will really help us!

Thank you for 27 years.

Thank you for the love in this thread. It's a good corrective, as I woke up today to a 1-star review on Bluelight's Trustpilot - a disgruntled community member whom I have responded to publicly, but the review will still stand. Because we only have a small number of reviewers, this brings our score down a lot. Could some of your amazing love be translated into some genuine Trustpilot reviews?

gawd I read that one. I agree the ''moderator'' was in the wrong, but like you said, it takes 2 to tango 💃

Awesome anniversary and happy birthday! Luckily I survived 27 and I'm 100% confident bluelight will too. I've only been active here for a short time, but been lurking since 2018 atleast and I've come across some of the most interesting and fascinating people and experiences here, but also some of the most dark and disturbing aspects of humanity too.
Anyway I've gotta commend the people making sure this site is still up and going and share my appreciation of those who do this voluntary work.

I donated a bit but will donate more again later this week

Happy belated b-day
I had to decide if id really enjoy it here, and bluelight is cool imho
People around world conglomerating together to talk drugs science and earth
When the chance comes around to donate i gotchu

I like the forum because we get to see experiences firsthand (some for good some for the bad,) but we get it raw uncut no censorship as far as experiences go.
I come to realize two things in life i dont believe most of what these respective govts say: Computer Cyber Security, and, Drug Design Action

Get the experiences from first hand users, no psychologist overview with their shrink statements beclouding the drug experiences
Get drug design info from a few chemist minded individuals who can shoot the shit back n forth about molecular things (and research papers)

I ended up here bcuz i wanted a place to talk drugs, science and such. Makes me wonder:
Why are these people here too? Learn to use drugs, make drugs, understand drugs
Why do govt types hang round er? Fund that war, gain insight and leads, just to see what drugs do to people?

Great questions. I think there's already a thread about why people come here.
But my sense of it is that people often discover Bluelight when seeking information about drugs, but end up sticking around more because of the connection and support side of things. Some of us remain connected long after the need for drug info has passed. Some of us want to pass on our experiences and knowledge to new generations of people, too.
I'm aware of many people who work in health and government and policy who are aware of Bluelight and may look things up here, but tend not to make accounts and post.
However we do encourage academic researchers to make accounts and engage on the Drug Studies subforum, advertising research and helping to improve connections between researchers and community members.
(disclosure: I am both an academic researcher and someone with lived experience of drugs, a combination that is not uncommon but often not openly discussed!
My colleagues and I wrote about this in an open-access journal article we published in Contemporary Drug Problems a few years ago!)
