Good post. I watched the movie Reindeerspotting Escape From Santaland (and even bought the sequel Lost Boys recently - GREAT movies showing the lives of young junkies unfiltered) and they in a rural Finnish town back in the 2010s did IV Buprenorphine because it’s the only opiate they had available, it can cause a similar feeling if you never did anything else but yea the protagonist at the end discovers Heroin in Marocco (he later moved to Cambodia and switched completely to Yaba = Crystal Meth before he was murdered, the incompetent police over there say it’s a “suicide” but he had defensive marks and huge debts he desperately tried to pay off just before he died).
Damn, I had no idea there was a sequel!!
Do you know if the Sequel is in Finnish or English? I had Reindeerspotting with English subtitles, so that's the only way I was able to really get an idea of what was being said & spoken about. It's crazy cause in that movie they're shooting up like entire 8mg Subutex pills. Yet they still nod & look high as hell. But from my experience, the more buprenorphine you take, the less you feel it. Maybe they were doped up on benzos too & that's why, I dunno.
I remember his death too. And people posted photos of it all over gore sites & shit at the time. I felt bad for the dude, he just wanted to get the fuck out of Finland & live his life the way he wanted. I'll have to see if I can find the sequel.
Anyway, Tramadol I took quite often too but I guess I either already had a little bit of tolerance or I just didn’t react too well to it. I loved all opiates I ever did except Kratom but Tramadol is a close second worst one. Idk it always gave me quite little euphoria and warmth and that was during a time when I also did Dihydrocodein and that still gave me strong effects.
Tramadol is a strange one.
In my 20's, I use to get pretty good euphoria from it. Stimulated. Even nodded out & got all itchy just like I would on heroin.
I was able to keep it working like this for close to a decade.
But then I got into heroin & eventually landed on buprenorphine.
Recently I got back on tramadol & I'm finding that it kind of sucks now too. I don't know why. Maybe it was the massive tolerance buprenorphine created? I have no idea. I was put on a pretty low dose too. And even when I had no tolerance at all, I still needed like 300-400mg of trams in order to "feel it". And then it would usually last me the rest of the day until I went to bed. Some times I'd start having a little WD at the end of the day, especially if I took it too early in the day.
I still own a blanket that was on my bed all through out my 20's. And trams would make me nod so hard while listening to music, that I'd forget I had a cigarette in my hand & burn a hole in this blanket. lol It probably has 100 different holes in it.
So clearly, at least for me, tramadol is capable of producing really great effects on par with any other opioid. But I think there's so much variation, that you never quite know how tramadol will work for you.
But now it just feels like a weak SNRI honestly

I'm pretty bummed. I don't get any opioid effects from it at all. Even if I up the dose. No nodding, no itching, no sedation, maybe a little stimulated feeling & then it wears off after about 2-4hrs.
So that's been kind of disappointing. Maybe my liver enzymes changed since I was in my 20's, I have no idea. lol Maybe I metabolized it better in my 20's. But I really had high hopes that it would be helpful considering it's still technically a full agonist & buprenorphine is just a partial.
Maybe it'll work in better with time, I dunno. But some of my most fondest "opioid memories" were on trams. And it's weird to me that they use to work so well back then but feel like almost nothing now.
Also you might have Synesthesia. Which is really cool. I wouldn’t be able to associate it with colors like you. This sounds very very much like Synesthesia, do you know if you have that by any chance?
I've heard of this & it's possible.
I don't actually see colors or anything though, I just "see" them in my head when I think about opioids & their different experiences they give.
Same with music, when I listen to music, I'll "think" about colors.
One time in middle school, in art class, I told my art teacher that music makes me think of colors. And he put on a song & asked me what colors it made me think of. And I said "it makes me think of black & yellow". And he was like "that's strange, cause the song is "Flight of The Bumble Bee" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. So I thought that was pretty cool. lol
But I can't actually see or hear colors or whatever. Like I think people with synesthesia actually see colors or "hear" them or whatever, where as things just sort of make me "think" of colors, rather than see them. But I could be wrong, maybe there's multiple types of synesthesia. lol
