I'm new to cannabis, how do I smoke it?

I second this. The first time I tried to smoke bud I also put it in a tobacco pipe and it did not work. Ideally the bowl should be shallower and have a hole for controlling airflow.
 
That's hash. Cut it into quite small pieces with a razor blade or sharp knife. As has been said, a much smaller bowl pipe will help you torch it. Even cut up small enough, hash can take a lot of lights

I'm going to try crumbling the hash with a razor blade. I'll probably have Saturday or Sunday off, so I'll only smoke on one of those days. I'll try using my pipe and putting in just a small amount of hash. If that doesn't work, I think I'll need something to replace the pipe.

Old school "hash" was pressed trichomes of the the plant removed by mechanical means. Butane was one of the first of the "concentrates" which are distinguished by use of solvents to separate the active THC, etc from the plant flowers.

try and get some pipe screens if you can.

Don't use brass either ie a 15mm plumbing elbow ,apparently copper isn't good for your brain if you constantly inhale it ,that's why plumbers are so fucked up🤣

Thats also why you shouldnt do hot knives. people who weld on stainless steel routinely get holes in their nose stevie knicks style. Granted i did my share of hot knives when i was young

Yeh I made my pipe at college then everyone took the piss cos I didn't know copper was toxic lol ,just changed it stainless steel
