Sam Harris is such a wild horse to me, you never know what to expect. One video is going to be a heart warming psychedelics or meditation topic, the next one might be anything ranging on attacking the political left or supporting israeli genocide.

Such mixed feelings about this guy... I still. recommend this video nevertheless.
 
reality can be seen objectively.

that i think psychedelics CAN distort reality, but you can use how you perceive the distortion of reality which is subjective/possibly make believe to see how you feel about and experience objective reality. you may not be able to grasp that you are distorting reality while under the influence of psychedelics. even afterward some people can have trouble getting grounded after a trip.

like a lot of psychedelic thought for some people is paranoid shit that is not on beat with what other people are experiencing, but there are reasons why people's minds are distorting reality from what we objectively experience often.
 
foodcrisis has a point. The thread title sounds like an absolute claim. Just like weed can show you true realizations and nonsense convolutions, and it takes sober reflection to separate wheat from chaff.
 
Reality is a tricky word.....like @foodcrisis said about perception. However, does anyone REALLY know what is there if reality is about perception?
 
@M!$TER-ED hehe, you've stumbled unto the biggest riddle in epistemology. At a a point it becomes circular.

1. X is perceived
2. X is dissected
3. X is described in its elements

But the question remains - what is the underlying "stuff", what is ACTUALLY real? Well, you can't get any closer than Descartes, in my opinion. And that gives idealism quite a lot of credence. :-)

I don't think there's a real objective reality, I think there's a subjective reality and you can try to find like minded individuals who share that particular mind set. Your "karass" if you will (Kurt vonnegut)

yeah, maybe that has actually happened to me with friends and things outside the laws of physics have happened in my life,

but i think there is a specific way people work on the same level. you can't just use your mind to change certain things. weird unexplained stuff can happen, but it still doesn't shut down the reality everyone else is experiencing, that i know of anyways.

@ the title of the thread, i think psychedelics distort reality so you can reveal how you construct it. how reality is distorted might not even be useful or make any objective sense for some people.. a person's brain may not make any sense. the psychedelics can distort things. not true for everyone though as some people can make sense from psychedelic experiences.
