šŸ¤ Cultural šŸ¤ Where would you go for info if Bluelight and Erowid just disappeared?

That's a pretty good question. The internet is more localized now even though it's larger, and it's definitely more governed. There are probably groups in places we've never heard of that know nearly everything about certain drugs, but overall yeah it's probably places like BL and the big social media orgs now for general questions/answers about drugs, but there's still more easily available info to people than there was 25 years ago

Yes, I've pondered this one personally. I've broached the subject a couple of times over in the fourms. I guess you will always be able to get the hard, objective information regarding drugs and their pharmacology. The stuff you won't be able to get easily are abstract concepts like addiction, cravings or what it feels like to inject a drug intravenously. These are all concepts we try to define constantly. You can't get those answers from a LLM.

I love these threads. They indicate you all place a lot of value on this place existing.

We have no plans to fold. So the other way to look at this question is - how can we make sure Bluelight isn’t going anywhere? And how can we ensure that if other places fold, we are the places that stands up and takes in those refugees from other communities? That we keep being unique and valuable to many for decades to come ā™„ļø

I know that! It was mainly a rhetorical question. I am curious if theres any other forums similar, maybe in non english language.

The Nook used be pretty good, but it had strong emphasis on botanicals.

Russian Hyperlab has a bunch of great rare info as well, though it is primarily a synthesis forum. Also, russian does NOT always translate smoothly..

For the most part blue light is informational, nonjudgmental, helpful, and even the highly accreditted blue lighters are good at ELI5. I know blue lights not necessarily social media, but I find it analagous to support groups on Facebook. It always irritates the shit out of me when people treat social media as pure evil. Singer Jim Morrison said he hoped one day people would discuss doors albums like they would poetry. People can denigrate the comment section of YouTube all they want. But there are lots of kind, thoughtful, and helpful conversations going on.

Bluelight (through most of its users) chose to be a place where people are treated with dignity, can feel comfortable asking questions, can develop a sense of community with others, and can learn about and explore drugs. Social media has its own evils and punji pits. But just like support groups on Facebook, informational videos on YouTube, and a mix of both on reddit, bluelight brings people together and hopes in its heart to make the world, drug users, and non drug users happier, healthier, and safer.
